Melkor is a person who, having everything, always wants to have more. Like the other Ainur, Melkor was created by Iluvatar before the creation of Ea (the universe). He was created together with another Ainu, Manwe, who in Iluvatar's mind was Melkor's brother. Melkor often wandered alone through the Void in search of an Unquenchable flame. With his help, Melkor was eager to give Existence to his own creations. It seemed to him that the Era did not care about Emptiness and its idleness. Melkor did not find the flame, as Iluvatar had it, but loneliness gave rise to thoughts different from those of his brethren.

appearance

Like all Ainur, Melkor was an invisible spirit in the physical world, who could clothe himself in matter, like the Children of Eru in clothes. Initially, when Melkor came to Arda, he took the form of the brightest light. This was due to the fact that he loved and longed to take all the light for himself, but it was impossible. Then Melkor turned to darkness, and when he reappeared, because of the anger and hatred boiling in him, his appearance became dark and frightening: taller than clouds, clothed with ice, crowned with smoke and fire; his gaze withered with heat and pierced with cold.

His strength

Before the dispersal of the force, Melkor was the mightiest of the Ainur—the greatest power created by Eru. He could not be restrained and defeated by all the Valar combined; Melkor could subdue his brother, Manwe, with just a glance. Melkor was gifted with wisdom above all other Ainur, possessing the particles revealed to each of his brethren. Melkor's purpose was to do/conceive/begin. He played a huge role in the creation of Ea, originally coordinated with the idea of the Era, creating the Imbar of Arda (earth's crust), the elements of fire and cold; over the latter he had great power. The stars, for the most part, remained untouched. Like Aule, in the beginning Melkor aspired to create and create something new that had never been created by anyone else; and he was pleased to hear the praise of his creation. However, Melkor did not submit his creations to the judgment of Eru and envied the creations of his brethren. Envy and hatred eventually led to the fact that Melkor could create nothing more (except in mockery of the creations of his fellow men), but could only destroy and pervert.
