Persona Attributes
Jolyne Cujoh (空条 徐倫, Kūjō Jorīn) is the main protagonist of Part 6 and the sixth JoJo of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. Jolyne is the only female "JoJo" to date, and the daughter of Jotaro Kujo. Initially an ordinary girl, Jolyne quickly awakens her string-based Stand, Stone Free, during her time in jail.
Jolyne is a young woman of above-average height and slim to athletic build. Bold-eyed, she wears her hair in two "layers": A dark base including two large buns atop her head and a short length going down her neck; above which, lightly dyed or bleached, she keeps a plait or braid that winds around both buns, joining in a short length at back, and bangs that frame her face. Like all other members of the Joestar family, Jolyne has a small star-shaped birthmark on the rear of her left shoulder, close to her neck; and has tattooed on the top of her left forearm the image of butterfly wings superimposed with a downward-pointing dagger, which reappears on the chest of her outfits. Jolyne's depiction in Part 6 transitions slightly from a slimmer and smoother to a more dynamic and athletic build. Simultaneously, she works through several primarily dark outfits, characterized by a spiderweb-like print.
Flighty, abrupt, and snappy with her elders, Jolyne in her teenage years was easily considered a delinquent and lost cause. Bitter at Jotaro for being absent from her life, she tried multiple times to catch her father's attention by committing multiple minor crimes and went to jail several times for them. Because of her father's absence, Jolyne was said to be dependent on the affection and approval of those around her[9], and she was ready to cover Romeo's accident, resulting in her being sentenced to 15 years in prison for it[10]. After acquiring her Stand and being told by Jotaro of his love for her, Jolyne noticeably matures, becoming more courageous and confident. "Reviving" Jotaro, who fell into a coma due to Whitesnake stealing his Stand and memory, turns into her priority.[11] Jolyne retains her confrontational attitude throughout the story. A former delinquent living in a maximum-security prison, Jolyne had to toughen up and can be especially rude. Her rare interactions with villains are either surly taunts or death threats, knowing how despicable most of them are. She also advocates aggressively asserting herself, especially in the prison, and once told F.F. to violently confront an inmate who cut in the queue for buying their lunch[12]. Jolyne is particularly violent in her fights; she's used the cutting ability of her string to gruesomely wound her opponents, severing ears and nails[13], for instance. Jolyne also has a vindictive side and repays tenfold any wrong committed against her, notably indirectly cutting Romeo's tongue for betraying her[14], moreover, Jolyne still holds a little grudge against Gwess, her first enemy, and wants nothing to do with her despite the latter's effort to behave in front of Jolyne.
Stone Free grants Jolyne the ability to unravel parts of her body into a string. This makes it a very versatile Stand, enabling her to listen in on communications as well as escape and hide by unraveling parts of herself into a string. She can unravel the string to make it travel farther but makes it more vulnerable. or clump it together to make it much more powerful. When she assembles the string, Jolyne can properly materialize Stone Free, partially or entirely. Stone Free is a humanoid Stand that has comparable physical prowess to the strongest Stands, with A's in Destructive power, Durability, and Developmental Potential. Unlike the rest of her family, Jolyne has awakened her Stand from being cut by an amulet (later to be revealed a Stand-creating stone arrowhead in disguise) given to her by her father, Jotaro Kujo.
Jolyne's childhood was often spent without her father as his job frequently required him to leave the country. Even when subjected to a high fever, Jotaro was unable to return from Japan to be with her. At the age of 14, her life as a teen began to spiral downward upon being mistaken for a suspect in a robbery she didn't commit and then fleeing from an officer by stealing a motorcycle. Upon being arrested and detained in a holding cell, falsely charged with the crime, she and her mother pleaded her innocence and even begged Jotaro to bail her out. However, as he did not believe her, in the end, she was sent to juvenile detention. When her mother was divorced from Jotaro, Jolyne became even more frustrated when he left the family. Soon, she joined the Hell Riders motorcycle/carjacking gang and spent more time getting into trouble. At 19, having cleaned up her act and left the gang, she went on a date with a preppy rich boy named Romeo Jisso. Upon driving home, Romeo and Jolyne were in a car accident, Romeo having fatally hit a pedestrian. Worried that he would be charged with reckless driving and dropped from a university's waiting list, Romeo decided to take the corpse and dump it somewhere, persuading Jolyne to help him and forget about the entire incident. A few days later, however, Jolyne was found at home and arrested. Stone Ocean (2011-2012) First Days in Jail Jolyne befriends Ermes Costello in prison while awaiting her transfer, and also receives a gift from her mother, a pendant on which she pricks herself and throws away immediately, unaware that it was a fragment of a Stand Arrow. During the transfer, Jolyne awakens her power to unravel into strings, but without friends or money, Jolyne is in a precarious position in the Green Dolphin Street Prison. Victimized by her cellmate Gwess, Jolyne manages to assemble her strings into the true Stand Stone Free. She manages to make herself respected by the population of the prison but still needs a way to get out of prison.
Jotaro's Visit One day, Jolyne receives a visit. Despite the warnings of a mysterious child named Emporio Alniño, Jolyne goes to the visitation room but sees that her father, Jotaro Kujo, is present. Furious, Jolyne tries to go away, but Jotaro warns her that his enemies framed her in an attempt to lure him out. Soon they find themselves battling two Stands, Johngalli A the sniper and the Stand Whitesnake which traps Jolyne and Jotaro in an illusion. Although both managed to escape, Jotaro's memory and Stand are stolen by Whitesnake. Jotaro's last words, confessing that he cherished his daughter, shake Jolyne. While Jotaro is given to the care of the Speedwagon Foundation, Jolyne chooses to stay in jail and retrieve his memory and Stand, as well as find the hidden enemy. Jotaro's Stand Disc Ermes Costello, who awakened her own Stand and battled Thunder McQueen, retrieved Thunder's memory disc, allowing Jolyne to investigate it and find a hidden stash of DISCS near a farm. In order to search the farm, Jolyne, and Ermes volunteer to look for two missing prisoners near the bogs, but have to fight the plankton Stand Foo Fighters when they find Jotaro's Stand disc. After a lengthy confrontation, Jolyne spares Foo Fighters, seeing that it was misguided rather than evil. Foo Fighters takes over the corpse of the prisoner Atroe to go live with Jolyne's group. In possession of Jotaro's Stand disc, Jolyne has attracted the attention of her enemy Enrico Pucci, who only dismissed her as a pawn for his plan. Realizing how dangerous she is, Pucci sends Miraschon in order to get the Stand disc back and kill Jolyne's group. However, Miraschon is defeated by Jolyne and Foo Fighters. Jolyne's call to the Speedwagon Foundation is intercepted by Pucci, who sends Lang Rangler in order to assassinate her. However, one of Emporio's allies, Weather Report, comes to help and both kill Lang. Having set up a rendezvous in the back courtyard, Jolyne manages, despite Whitesnake's efforts, to deliver the disc to a messenger pigeon. Jolyne gave Jotaro his Stand back but Jotaro is still in danger of decaying without his soul.
The Maximum Security Ward Ermes Costello, who willingly threw herself in jail, enacts her revenge against Sports Maxx, a gangster who killed her sister. Unfortunately, Sports Maxx's Stand, Limp Bizkit, resurrects him and a fight ensues between Ermes, Jolyne, and Foo Fighters, who came to help her, against Sports Maxx's army of invisible zombies. Sports Maxx is soon vanquished, but Ermes is gravely injured while Jolyne is thrown into the maximum security ward. Since the examination of Sports Maxx's memory disc revealed that Whitesnake used Sports Maxx to resurrect a mysterious bone which is now in the maximum security ward, Jolyne is determined to find this bone. However, Pucci sent four Stand users to kill her, while Foo Fighters enlists Emporio's second ally Narciso Anasui to help her protect Jolyne. Viviano Westwood, a prison guard rendered mad by the Stand Survivor, frees all the prisoners and fights Jolyne. While Westwood is a difficult opponent, Jolyne ultimately defeats him. The third Stand user, an elderly named Kenzou, confronts Jolyne. However, Foo Fighters comes to the rescue and fights Kenzou, while Anasui deals the final blow to him. During their fight, the bone caused plants to fuse out of all the normal inmates and created The Green Baby. Deciding to try to escape from prison, Jolyne and Anasui meet a fourth Stand, Yo-Yo Ma, which swallows the baby, thus forced to take him along while F.F. stays to kill the user. While Jolyne and Anasui struggle to hide from the guards with Yo-Yo Ma killing them slowly, F.F. confronts Enrico Pucci directly.
Yo-Yo Ma is neutralized when Anasui fuses his brain with that of a frog, and F.F. manages to kill Yo-Yo Ma's user. Now, Jolyne and Anasui face the hatched Green Baby, and although the Green Baby has the power to shrink anyone that approaches it, Jolyne befriends it. Meanwhile, F.F. manages to join Jolyne and Anasui alongside Weather Report, but Weather Report suddenly attacks F.F. and Anasui, bringing them down. Whitesnake disguised itself as Weather Report and Enrico Pucci faces Jolyne. A fight ensues, but Enrico Pucci throws away Jotaro's memory disc into the agonizing Anasui, threatening to destroy it. Jolyne has no choice but to abandon the fight and Pucci takes the baby and fuses with it. F.F. sacrifices itself to save Anasui. The escape is a near-complete disaster. Escaping Prison While Enrico Pucci departs from the prison, Jolyne confronts Miu Miu, the chief warden from Green Dolphin Street Prison. Although Miu Miu's Jail House Lock stops Jolyne from acquiring more than three memories, Emporio and Jolyne manage to work together and coerce Miu Miu into letting the group escape. Sky high Emporio, Jolyne, and Ermes escape from prison and pursue Enrico Pucci across Florida toward the coordinates North Latitude 28°4', West Longitude 80°36'. Jolyne first goes to her old boyfriend Romeo, who gives her a helicopter out of repentance. However, the trio soon crashes when they are attacked by Rikiel, one of DIO's sons. Rikiel, defeated after a tough battle, reveals that Weather Report is Enrico's brother. Under World & Heavy Weather Jolyne, Ermes, and Emporio soon reach the hospital in which Pucci is hiding. However, the third of DIO's sons who answered Pucci's call intervenes with his Stand Under World. Able to summons memories from the ground, Donatello Versus imprisons Jolyne and Ermes in a plane crash. However, Jolyne and Ermes manage to escape and defeat Donatello. However, Donatello manages to steal a memory disc and gives it back to Pucci's brother, Weather Report. A new strange event appears as the streets are invaded by millions of snails and people transform into snails themselves. Although they are infected, Jolyne and Ermes escape from the hospital and force Donatello to drive for them. Jolyne interrupts Weather Report and Pucci's battle, but the former unfortunately dies while Pucci escapes.
Cape Canaveral Jolyne and her companions now have to drive toward Cape Canaveral to stop whatever Pucci is planning to do. However the gravity suddenly shifts horizontally, and Ermes is taken away by falling debris. Now in the main courtyard of Cape Canaveral, Jolyne fights with the new Stand C-Moon. Although C-Moon's strikes are dangerous since they can turn her body inside out, Jolyne gains the upper hand until Pucci intervenes and guides C-Moon to hit her chest. Jolyne seemingly dies, to her companion's dismay. However, as Jotaro approaches, Jolyne is revealed to have survived and resumes her fight. Jotaro arrives thanks to Ermes and stops time. Pucci is wounded and surrounded but manages to unlock his ultimate power sooner than expected. As he floats away, no one can stop him from unlocking his last Stand, and a bright light envelops everyone.
Jolyne and her companions wake up and soon find out that time is accelerating, with living beings unaffected. Pucci and his Stand Made in Heaven prove unable to properly counter in the open, and the group tries to reach the sea to see Pucci coming. However, Jotaro, during a critical time stop, loses time trying to save Jolyne from impending knives and misses Pucci. Pucci kills Jotaro, Anasui, and Ermes while Jolyne is critically wounded and Emporio is the only one still standing. As Pucci approaches Emporio, Jolyne cuts one of his eyes and attacks Pucci, making a last stand to let Emporio escape and was effortlessly torn to pieces by Pucci's attack. During the universe reset Emporio is transported back to 2011 in Green Dolphin Street Prison where he briefly spots an Alternate Jolyne and an Alternate Jotaro. As Pucci makes his way to Emporio he accidentally inserts Weather Reports Stand Disc that Jolyne left him into his head. Giving Emporio the power to defeat Pucci and avenge Jolyne.
Jotaro Kujo: Her distant and near-fatherless childhood bore a tinge of loneliness in her, at times resenting him but also wanting his affection. Her relationship with Jotaro is challenging at first, not really fitting the typical father-daughter mold. When Jolyne was fourteen, she was wrongfully accused of pickpocketing. Panicked, she stole a car, sloppily tried to make an escape from the authorities, and was arrested soon afterward. Jolyne anticipated that Jotaro would pay her bail, but was sorely disappointed when she overheard her mother's frantic and unsuccessful pleas with him on the phone. Her father's absence following this led to her teenage years of delinquency (she later reflects that these events were a desperate call for attention). During Jolyne's imprisonment, Jotaro visited her in an effort to break her out. Angered that he would come out of the blue to see her after years of absence, Jolyne blew up at him, citing his inattentive behavior and his divorce. However, after risking life and limb to get Jolyne out as well as losing his Stand in the process Jolyne broke down and got Jotaro to safety, sacrificing her own freedom and vowing to get his Stand back. As time passed, Jolyne came to respect her father more and idolized him somewhat, adapting his trademark "Yare yare daze" into a more feminine "Yare yare dawa". When Jotaro returns later, both father and daughter show considerable care to one another, each in their own way. Mother: Jolyne's mother rarely appears and is hardly talked about. It's assumed that she loves Jolyne very much and dotes on her in Jotaro's absence, as she was the only known person to be allowed to call Jolyne "JoJo". It's mentioned that she is an American. Holy Kujo: It is unknown if Jolyne has a relationship with her grandmother. However, she is shown at times to demonstrate the kindness Holy often did.
Ermes Costello: Ermes is possibly the first true friend that Jolyne encounters in her life when they meet and bond in jail. Her relationship with Ermes resembles that of Jotaro's relationship with Jean Pierre Polnareff. Jolyne and Ermes see each other as worthy allies and friends, and because of their similar temper, get along well and kill time together. She has fought alongside Jolyne against many powerful enemies like Sports Max, Rikiel, & Donatello Versus. Emporio Alniño: Emporio's relationship with Jolyne is somewhat similar to her ancestor Jonathan Joestar to Poco, as Jolyne treats Emporio like a little brother and trustworthy ally, while Emporio is inspired by her courage and determination. Jolyne saves him from many dangerous situations and ends up giving her life so that he may live, trusting that Emporio will defeat Pucci. Emporio's relationship with Jolyne extends to Irene as well. Foo Fighters: Foo Fighters initially met Jolyne as enemies however, Jolyne spares Foo Fighters; grateful to Jolyne, it becomes an ally. Jolyne treats Foo Fighters with respect and is very friendly with her, noting its naïveté is protective toward it. Foo Fighters, nicknamed F.F. by Jolyne, is inspired by her determination and cherishes the memories it has of her. It is ultimately willing to put itself in danger and even sacrifice itself to save Jolyne's life. Romeo Jisso: Before Jolyne's growth as a person, she and Romeo were in a relationship; with Jolyne being particularly affectionate and meek and Romeo trying to keep some distance, as he was suspicious of her past as a possible gang member. Their relationship ended when Romeo framed her for his manslaughter with aggravating circumstances, landing her in prison for a crime she didn't commit. After she escapes from prison, Jolyne pays him a visit and he weeps for forgiveness. Romeo shows genuine repentance and actually helps her, but while Jolyne doesn't show any lingering anger, she takes the occasion to damage his tongue to silence him. Weather Report: When they first met, Jolyne was flabbergasted by Weather's eccentric behavior. However, during the fight against Lang Rangler, both eventually see each other as allies and trust each other. Anasui even suspects him to be a rival for Jolyne's love and is jealous when Jolyne is with him. Regardless, there are hints of Jolyne caring for Weather in a more-than-fraternal way notably when upon meeting again, Jolyne hugs Weather. Jolyne was also particularly distraught at Weather's death. Narciso Anasui: Though Anasui fell in love with Jolyne at first sight, the feeling wasn't mutual; Jolyne was not really sure what to think of him. He would sometimes try to seduce her in underhanded ways, such as asking F.F. to trip her down the stairs so he could romantically catch her or prompting a French kiss from a temporary-mute Jolyne.
Enrico Pucci: Pucci only saw Jolyne as bait at first in order to get to Jotaro but as she proved to be a persistent thorn on his side threat while finding her father's Stand and memory disks, Pucci threaded carefully around her. Unaware of his involvement at first, Jolyne treated the priest with respect. They became enemies right away once she was informed that Whitesnake was Pucci's Stand and was eager to take his life. Jolyne became more than determined in stopping him and putting an end to his plans but her efforts would soon be fatal while she almost fell to Pucci's newly evolved C-Moon and would finally fall to his Made In Heaven while protecting Emporio, but has managed to cut the right side of his eye before dying. Donatello Versus: Due to his alliance with Pucci, Donatello, and Jolyne were enemies. An additional reason for their antagonism would be that Jolyne's father destroyed Donatello's father. In the end, Jolyne accidentally killed Donatello after being tricked by Whitesnake into thinking he was Pucci. Unbeknownst to either of them since Donatello was conceived when Dio possessed Jonathan's body Donatello is actually Jolyne's distant uncle. Johngalli A: As the man who got her framed for murder, Jolyne and Johngalli A were enemies. Johngalli A attempted to murder Jolyne and Jotaro to avenge DIO but failed. As payback, Jolyne pummeled Johngalli A as the sniper realized that Jolyne was more resourceful than she looked and inherited Jotaro's blood. Gwess: Jolyne's cellmate during her time at Green Dolphin. Jolyne inadvertently awakened Gwess's Stand power with her pendant. Gwess originally used her powers to bully Jolyne by shrinking her, but after Jolyne beat her she acted like her subordinate, advising Jolyne during her early days in prison and being somewhat afraid of her. Jolyne still had an arm-length relationship with Gwess but nonetheless tolerated her afterward. Miuccia Miuller: Miu is an assassin sent by Pucci to make sure Jolyne doesn't interfere with his plans. Miu manipulated Jolyne into forgetting her goals and friends. After Jolyne remembered them, she beat up Miu and used her to escape the prison.
