Biography:

Aizawa is Class 1-A's homeroom teacher. He seems apathetic at first glance, but looks out for his students and pushes them to improve. He is also the pro hero Eraser Head. His Quirk, "Erasure", allows him to nullify others' control over their Quirks by making eye contact with them. Blinking dispels the effect of his Quirk and using it gives him very dry eyes. As a youth, Aizawa himself was a student in U.A. along with Present Mic, who suggested Shota’s hero name,and a boy named Oboro Shirakumo. The three were close friends and were going to start their own hero agency together. Sadly, Shirakumo died protecting Mic, Aizawa and civilians from a building collapse and Aizawa was greatly saddened by the loss. He threw himself hard into being the best hero he could be but also sank into depression. Fellow hero Midnight urged Aizawa to become a teacher. During the Unforseen Simulation Joint arc, Aizawa was present when villains invaded a training exercise. He fought fiercely to save the students, but was overpowered and brutally beaten by a powerful Nomu. Even bloodied and barely conscious A iizawa activated Erasure to save the students from Tomura Shigaraki and his fellow villains. Azawa has also been greatly affected by learning Shirakumo was turned into the nomu Kurogiro and wants to give his friend justice if possible. He and Present Mic spoke to Kurogiri and tried to reach Oboro but failed, and Aizawa shed tears. In the Paranormal Liberation War arc, Aizawa again faced Shigaraki. He was shot by a bullet that could erase quirks, and quickly self-amputated the leg he was shot in to stop the bullet’s effect from spreading. Shigaraki fought his way through to Aizawa, who still had Erasure active, and clawed Aizawa’s face. Aizawa was left scarred and his right eye was gouged out, leaving his Erasure ability severely limited. Aizawa is the guardian of Eri, a little girl who was tortured by Overhaul to make quirk-erasing bullets. ->

Biography (pt 2):

<- Aizawa was asked to watch over her because she has an ability to “rewind” people or objects to earlier states and cannot control it completely yet. Aizawa can stop her with Erasure if necessary. He also has a student, Shinso Hitoshi. Shinso is like Aizawa in that he has a powerful quirk but no physical enhancements. He was in general studies, but Aizawa tutored him in Binding Cloth Style and eventually gifted the boy one of his own binding cloths, which Shinso wears himself.

Appearance:

Aizawa stands just over 6ft (1.83m) tall with a slim but muscular build. He has long, black shoulder-length hair that floats when his quirk is active and black eyes that glow green in the manga and red in the anime when using his quirk. He has a large scar under his right eye after the USJ incident and gains a vertical scar a ross the same eye after the Paranormal Liberation War. He wears an eyepatch over his right eye after losing it. He usually has stubble on his face and chin. His hero costume is a black top and pants that look like a one piece jumpsuit. He wears a utility belt, black boots and a white rope-like cloth called a capture weapon coiled around his neck. He wears yellow goggles over his eyes to make it harder for villains to see who he’s using his quirk on. After losing his right leg, he got a prosthetic to replace it.

Personality:

Aizawa is a very strict and reserved person, with high expectations of his students. He acts mainly by logic and does not believe in the need to always appear clean on oneself, or to filter his words and ideas. He often looks cold, listless, and impatient, putting very little energy into what he does, preferring to take naps in his sleeping bag. He doesn’t always even eat a good meal, as he’s sometimes seen slurping pre-made jelly packets instead. A strict teacher, Aizawa is known to fire students he thinks don't fit in U.A. However, it is revealed that his high dismissal rate is only on paper, he has a habit of bringing back fired students. Shoto only does this to push them up. He can also be rigid and has little tolerance for disobedient behavior. He's not afraid to push his high school students through rigorous training and make them overcome their limits. Aizawa has proven that he can be very talkative and is not shy about expressing his ideas. He is known to lie to his students, manipulating them into giving their best, a technique he describes as "a logical ruse" "a rational deception". Despite his apathetic features, Aizawa cares about his students and doesn't hesitate to give anything to protect them, such as when he saved Tsuyu Asui when he was already badly injured. He also showed that he believed in his high school students, and was even confident that Katsuki Bakugo would not go over to the Villains. Recovery Girl also insinuated that during a test, he let himself be captured by Momo Yaoyorozu in order to boost her self-confidence.

Abilities:

Named after his quirk, Erasure, Eraser Head can negate usage of the quirk possessed by whomever he makes eye contact with. for as long as he can last without blinking. Blinking will allow the target to use their quirk again; this is why Aizawa carries eye drops with him, as well as many other objects. After losing an eye to Shigaraki in the Paranormal Liberation War arc, he can no longer use Erasure effectively as his control is shaky and his remaining eye can’t keep it active very long. The limitations to his quirk other than giving their power back to them when he blinks are its inability to work on mutant-class quirks (for inferable reasons), its toll on the dryness of his eyes, and that it makes his hair and binding cloth stand up, meaning enemies can tell when he's using his ability. The quirk did become very limited and mostly unfeasible for use in battle with the loss of his right eye, as he cannot maintain it with the remaining eye for more than a few seconds. He did, however, allow Neito Monoma, who can copy quirks, to copy it from him and use it. The quirk has no offensive potential, so all of his combat capabilities were achieved through training, and as a pro hero, Eraser Head is a very good fighter, capable of swiftly defeating dozens of low-tier thugs. He does not possess super strength however, and at most, he likely possesses peak human strength as he was able to send a Heteromorphic villain flying with a single punch. At the same time he defeated the low-level thugs, Nomu almost killed Eraser Head-- he was a threat that All Might had to handle. It isn’t yet known how he will adapt to losing his leg, but given his overall physical condition and fitness, he’ll likely do quite well.
