About

Sayaka Taniyama (谷山 たにやま さやか , Taniyama Sayaka) is a supporting character in the series. She is a first-year student at Seiren Private Academy, serving as a member of the Disciplinary Committee. Sayaka competed with Yuki Suou for the position of student council president in middle school.

Appearance

Sayaka, in comparison to striking beauties like Alisa and Yuki, is seen as relatively plain. She typically wears her black hair in a bob cut and dons a pair of red glasses.

Personality

She is often stern, serious, and sometimes confrontational towards others, placing high expectations upon others but higher ones on herself. Sayaka is a very straight-laced girl. She has no trouble working hard, studying a lot for tests, and running for student council president in both the middle school and high school divisions. She greatly admires the bond shared between Yuki and Masachika, seeing it as an ideal to live up to. Therefore, she was surprised and enraged to find out Masachika did not run with Yuki in the high school division, choosing to run as a vice president candidate with Alya instead.

Background

Sayaka is the current Public Morals Officer. During her time in middle school, she competed for student council president against Yuki. She ended up losing but the outcome led to her becoming an otaku, only a few knowing so. In high school, she did not join the student council. It was thought that she would not run in the election but agreed to join if Alya became the next student council president. She also comes from an extremely wealthy family since she so happens to be the daughter of the CEO of Taniyama Heavy Industries, a company based on shipbuilding, making her one of the elites of Seriren Private Academy.

Etymology

The name Sayaka consists of" 沙"(sa) meaning "sand", "也(ya) meaning "also" and "加" (ka) meaning "add, increase". Sayaka's surname Taniyama means "valley" (谷) (tani) and "mountain, hill" (山) (yama).
