Ryoumen Sukuna (両りょう面めん宿すく儺な, Ryōmen Sukuna), more commonly known as Sukuna, is the most powerful mage of the past millennia. Considered the undisputed King of Curses (呪のろいの王おう, Noroi no Ō?), Sukuna is one of the main antagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen. According to legend, during the heyday of witchcraft 1,000 years ago, Sukuna was a curse in human form. Shamans tried their best to defeat him, but were ultimately defeated. After Sukuna's death, shamans tried to destroy his body to no avail. The shamans of that time divided Sukuna's body, leaving only his fingers, and scattered them throughout the world as cursed objects.

appearance

His appearance has been described for more than a thousand years as follows: a fictional god with four arms and two pairs of eyes. Now Sukuna resembles the Itadori he currently inhabits (Itadori Yuji) only with slicked back hair, long dark blue pointed nails and distinctive black tattoos on his forehead, nose, cheeks and body in general. Lines under his eyes - a pair of eyes above his eyes, which in the anime always appear slightly open. Also on Sukuna's body are two lines on his wrists, forearms, circles with a dot in them - on his shoulders, two nipples on his chest and two lines on his stomach when he switches places with Yuji. In Megumi's body, Sukuna manifests similarly. In his inner world, Sukuna wears a light kimono with a dark line along the edge and a black scarf around his neck.

Yuji is a muscular teenager with large brown eyes and light brown (light pink in the anime) hair that sticks out in all directions. When Yuji became Sukuna's vessel, lines appeared under his eyes. At the beginning, Yuji wore a light yellow hoodie with a zipper and a hood, and jeans with the legs turned up. After entering the technical school, Yuji began wearing a personalized version of the school uniform: a black long-sleeved jacket over a red hoodie with buttons on the left side, plus black pants. During the Shibuya incident, he gains a noticeable scar between his eyes and a smaller scar on the left labial fold of his mouth, both of which were inflicted by Mahito. In the Culling Game, Yuji lost the marks under his eyes after Sukuna transferred into Megumi Fushiguro's body as his new vessel. During his training with Choso and Noritoshi, Yuji's hands changed noticeably: the skin color became red and long claws appeared. They began to resemble Kechizu's hands.

Sukuna is selfish, heartless, immoral and an exceptional sadist. When he was reincarnated shortly after Yuji Itadori swallowed his finger, he wished to kill women and children and compared them to maggots crawling around. Due to his immense power, he rarely cares about the consequences of his actions, even if they affect his vessel, Yuji Itadori. In fact, he often mocks and insults Yuuji, calling him a scoundrel, and has laughed and enjoyed his despair on several occasions. Also, apparently, he shows hostility to the dead, and to curses, and to magicians, and his goal at the moment is not determined by anything other than the usual pleasure from reveling in his power. But, apparently, Sukuna shows interest in Megumi and his power from the clan's inherited technique, which is why he does not want to let him die. After capturing Megumi's body, he kills Fushiguro, who has reincarnated in the body of Tsumiki, and Yorozu, who is in love with himself, using only Megumi's body techniques in order to break the latter as much as possible and plunge him into bottomless despair. Sukuna is very good at hiding his plans: step by step, fulfilling the conditions necessary for himself, he has not yet allowed any of the magicians to guess at least about his approximate plan. Like, for example, the conditions that he set for the resurrection of Itadori, which now no one except him knows about. But it is worth noting that many people had already guessed that the agreement between them had taken place: both Mahito and Gojo, almost immediately after Itadori’s resurrection. One of his feats was when he single-handedly wiped out the "Sun, Moon, and Star" squad and the Five Hollow Generals, the Fujiwara clan's most elite fighters, terrifying the Japanese government to the point that they were willing to hold a celebration in his honor. The influence Sukuna had on history until his death earned him the title of "The Strongest Mage in History", as well as the "King of Curses". His strength is still held in such high regard that even Satoru Gojo, the strongest mage of the modern era, with a high level of self-confidence and pride in his abilities, acknowledged his strength and that a fight between the two of them would be difficult. Even in his weakest state after his incarnation in Yuji's body for most of the time he spent in it due to missing most of his fingers, Sukuna remained extremely powerful, able to effortlessly exorcise powerful cursed spirits, including ones such as the cursed spirit that ate his finger, which he easily extracted from the cursed spirit after completely overpowering it. While intentionally weakening himself by ripping out Yuji's heart so that he would not be able to regain control of his body, Sukuna was utterly powerful against Megumi Fushiguro, the heir to the Zenin clan's prized Ten Shadows technique and a prodigious genius who entered the school as a 2nd rank mage with one of the highest potentials in the magic school. Megumi acknowledged that he was completely outnumbered and was more than willing to summon Mahoraga to defeat Sukuna. Sukuna would have killed Megumi if he had not become interested in Megumi's unique techniques, though before he could combat Megumi's trump card, Yuji managed to regain control of his body. Mahito's group sought out Sukuna, believing that his revival could ensure their success, and with only three fingers, Sukuna demonstrated an overwhelming superiority in strength compared to Mahito, managing to completely counter his Idle Transformation and effortlessly inflict a serious injury on Mahito when he eventually angered him too much, as well as dispelling his "Self-Embodiment of Perfection" territory with a single attack. This frightened and intrigued Mahito so much that he became firmly convinced that since Sukuna was on a completely different level, his resurrection would surely lead to the Age of Curses.

Once Yuji's body had absorbed the fifteen fingers, Sukuna's overwhelming cursed energy spread throughout Shibuya as soon as he awakened, comparable to Satoru's cursed energy, albeit being far more sinister. Having regained 75% of his power, Sukuna proved himself capable of defeating Jogo, the most powerful cursed spirit in Mahito's group, in a largely one-sided fight as he easily overwhelmed all of his opponent's efforts, leaving him completely unable to land even a single blow that would have forced Sukuna to join him before killing him with his signature fire. His final act during the Shibuya incident was to fight and defeat Mahōraga, a feat that no Ten Shadows user or even a member of the Gojo clan with Infinity and Six Eyes had ever accomplished.

There is a small chance that Sukuna will incarnate into the body of someone who eats his fingers. After Yuji ate the first of his twenty fingers, Sukuna immediately took over the boy's body. Unlike other incarnated magi, according to the Angel residing in Hana Kurusu, Sukuna, after surviving death, developed the knowledge of how to split his soul into cursed objects, which he demonstrated by putting all of his cursed energy into Yuji's little finger and then force-feeding it to Megumi to take over his body.

In his first appearance, Sukuna showed that he possessed immense physical strength despite being in an incomplete form. He was able to easily defeat a very large cursed spirit with a simple swing of his hand, and during his fight with Gojo, he managed to punch the roof of the school with enough force to blow a hole in the building. He easily dealt with Finger Bearer, a special-class curse. When Sukuna put Yuji's life on the line in front of Megumi, he was able to effortlessly throw the mage through several floors of the building, and he easily defeated and destroyed Megumi's shikigami. He even punched Megumi with enough force to send raindrops flying in all directions. With fifteen fingers, Sukuna threw Jogo through buildings and even broke his jaw. His punches had a significant impact on Mahoraga. After possessing Megumi's body, he was able to easily pierce Yuji through and send him flying across the city with a single punch, temporarily stunning him.

Sukuna has repeatedly demonstrated an unmatched level of speed, being able to effortlessly surprise most opponents with the swiftness of his movements. With three fingers, Sukuna was able to easily knock an opponent to the ground and even cut off their arm without realizing it. He was also able to effortlessly punch Megumi multiple times, delivering powerful blows that Megumi could barely react to. With fifteen fingers, he easily overpowered Jogo and was able to keep up with Mahoraga in their battle. Sukuna was even able to appear between Atsuya Kusakabe and Panda, both of whom were capable mages, with the former being a Level 1 mage. In his fully manifested form, he was able to outrun Yuji, who could run at 60.12 km/h (37.3 mph).

Sukuna can easily track his opponents' movements and react to them in time, making him a match for any shaman. He was able to constantly dodge and reflect Mahoraga's attacks during the fight. He was able to quickly and completely finish Mahoraga before he finished regenerating. He was able to dodge Jogo's powerful technique, Ultimate: Meteor

Sukuna has withstood a blow strong enough to pierce several skyscrapers.[2] Even while in Yuji's body, Sukuna can use cursed energy to increase his host's resilience. Sukuna was thrown through five buildings and emerged completely unharmed. Sukuna was able to survive the 200% Void: Purple technique during his fight with Satoru Gojo.

Sukuna can create new eyes and mouths for his vessel, allowing him to see and speak. For example, he created an eye and mouth on Yuji's left cheek to humiliate and mock him.

Sukuna is an extremely intelligent individual. He has fully grasped the nature of cursed techniques, curses, and the Reverse Cursed Technique in general. Due to this, he is able to quickly decipher the inner workings of cursed techniques after seeing them only once or twice, and create a suitable defense against such techniques. He did this in his fight with Mahōraga, and was able to defeat the shikigami after understanding his technique. Sukuna was also able to recognize the potential of Megumi's cursed technique simply by seeing it once during their brief fight, and he was able to form a binding oath with Yuji to possess Megumi's body, patiently waiting for the right moment before carrying out his plan. During his fight with Hana Kurusu, using Megumi's memories, he was able to trick Hana into thinking that Megumi had regained control of her body, and thus, when she embraced him, he was able to severely injure her.

In his true form, Sukuna possesses four arms and two mouths. The extra arms allow him to perform gestures while keeping two hands free, and the extra mouth allows him to continuously cast spells without straining his heart or lungs. These extra body parts give him a huge advantage over other magi, and despite their abnormality, his bodily functions are not impaired.

Magic: Incalculable Cursed Energy

Sukuna possesses a vast amount of cursed energy due to his innate power, solidifying his title as the Curse King. He was able to continuously use his techniques in battle without depleting himself at all. His reserves of cursed energy are likely the largest in history, far surpassing both Special-ranked Cursed Spirits and magi. Yuta Okkotsu, a Special-ranked magus who possesses even more cursed energy than Satoru Gojo, claims that Sukuna has twice as much or more than him. Sukuna also has absolute control over his cursed energy, being extremely skilled in both Territory Expansion and Reverse Cursed Energy. Hajime Kashimo, one of the strongest magi from 400 years ago, was amazed by Sukuna's mastery of his cursed energy, shown in his ability to seamlessly switch between Territory Stretch and his Innate Technique, and stated that if it weren't for the Six Eyes, even Satoru Gojou would not have been able to match Sukuna's use of cursed energy.

magic: Black Lightning

It is a distortion in space that occurs when cursed energy is used within 0.000001 seconds of a physical strike. If the user manages to use the cursed energy at this exact moment, their own previously expended cursed energy will flash black, and the attack power will increase by 2.5 times. Sukuna first used Black Flash against Maki Zenin during an attack by mages in Shinjuku, delivering a powerful blow that knocked the Heaven-Bound girl back. Sukuna has used Black Flash a total of seven times so far.

magic: Binding Oath

Sukuna bound himself to an oath with Yuji. The Curse King agreed to revive the boy after his death under two conditions: Yuji would allow Sukuna to possess his body for one minute when he said "Relinquish", and he would forget about the agreement. Yuji initially opposed the binding oath, forcing Sukuna to promise that he would not kill or harm anyone during that minute. The boy still did not agree to the terms, and instead engaged in a battle with the Curse King, in which he would allow the agreement to be fulfilled if he lost. Sukuna effortlessly defeated Yuji, forcing him to accept the binding oath. To mitigate the Divine Flame's slow speed and narrow range, Sukuna made an oath that forbade him from using the Divine Flame in most cases, except when it was within his territory. In turn, the Demon Tomb's cursed technique expands, infusing all the pulverized matter within it with the same explosive cursed energy as the Divine Flame it contains within its territory, changing the characteristics of the barrier to restrict entry and exit for all but living beings. This effectively turns the particles into thermobaric explosives that disperse throughout the area and detonate when the Divine Flame is released, causing instant heat, shock waves, decompression, and a massive increase in pressure that kills all life within the area.

Sukuna's cursed technique allows him to strike at varying distances to cut through objects and space, as well as release destructive flames.

Innate Technique: Dissection

Sukuna's standard long-range slashing attack that is used against inanimate objects, but can also be used to great effect against cursed spirits and mages. Using Mahoraga's second adaptation to Limitless as a model, Sukuna learned to refine Slash by expanding its range to the world itself, turning it into "Slash that Can Cut the World".

Innate Technique: Splitting

A slashing attack that adjusts to the enemies' durability and cursed energy, cutting them down in one fell swoop. Unless Sukuna uses Territory Expansion, he must make physical contact with the target to use Cleave.

Innate Technique: Web

Sukuna can use a splitting technique in the form of a web by touching the ground. A variation of splitting, the web adapts to the environment, destroying the soil in one fell swoop.

Innate Technique: Divine Flame

Sukuna can create and manipulate fire for long-range attacks by saying "Open" and forming an arrow. This technique can only be used after he has performed "Cleave" and "Split". The firepower of this flame surpasses that of Jogo, a special rank curse that is characterized by its highly destructive pyrokinetic capabilities.

Innate Technique: Ten Shadow Technique

By incarnating in Megumi's body, Sukuna gained access to a prized innate technique of the Zenin clan, allowing him to summon ten different shikigami using his shadows as a medium. Bansho: An elephant shikigami that can shoot massive amounts of water from its trunk and crush enemies with its weight. Bansho Sukuna has sunken eye sockets and long, curved limbs. Using Bansho's ability to use water without directly summoning it, Sukuna can mimic the Piercing Blood by releasing a beam of water from her hands. Rabbit Escape: A swarm of shikigami rabbits that Sukuna uses as a distraction or to hide himself from prying eyes. If necessary, he can summon as many rabbits as needed and destroy them without any consequences. Round Deer: A deer shikigami that Sukuna took control of after possessing Megumi's body. It can use the Reverse Curse Technique and emit positive energy to heal others or neutralize cursed energy.

Piercing Bull: A bull shikigami that Sukuna took control of after possessing Megumi's body. It deals damage by attacking and ramming enemies. Although it can only move in a straight line, the further it moves, the greater the force of the blow. Funeral Tiger: A shikigami that Sukuna took control of after possessing Megumi's body. Its appearance and abilities are unknown. Divine General Mahoraga: The most powerful shikigami that can be summoned using the Ten Shadows technique. It is equipped with the Sword of Annihilation and has the ability to adapt to all phenomena. After disposing of it during the battle in Shibuya, Sukuna became the first Ten Shadows user to tame this shikigami. Taming this shikigami allows him to use its eight-handled wheel on himself or other people and force them to take on Mahoraga's adaptation process. Nue: Chimera - Fusion Beast Agito: A Shikigami Fusion where Nue is combined with the Great Snake, Round Deer, and Funeral Tiger. The result is a Mahoragu-sized humanoid that can generate electricity from its fists and regenerate itself or heal others with a Reverse Cursed Technique.

Reverse Cursed Technique

Sukuna has mastered the Reverse Curse Technique. While in Yuji's body, he used his Reverse Curse Technique to instantly heal all injuries, including regenerating lost limbs in a matter of moments. He can even go further and heal others, something that only a few can do. Sukuna can also use the Reverse Curse Technique to heal his own burned-out Curse Technique by destroying the part of his brain that contains the Curse Techniques and regenerating it. This shows that Sukuna has an extremely high level of mastery over the Reverse Curse Technique.

Techniques to counteract territorial expansion

Dimensional Dilation: Sukuna uses this technique to neutralize Gojo's Infinity Technique, allowing him to make physical contact with it. His mastery of Dimensional Dilation allows him to keep it active while expanding his territory, as well as use it in short periods of time to interrupt and restart Mahoraga's adaptation instead of nullifying its effects. Absolute Void Weave: A technique that counters Territory Expansion, which is the precursor to Simple Territory. It sets up a basket-shaped barrier that neutralizes a guaranteed Territory Expansion hit.

Technique: Territory expansion

Demon Tomb: This is an expansion of Sukuna's territory that creates a Buddhist temple decorated with skulls. Anything within the territory is mercilessly destroyed using "Cut" or "Split", depending on the level of the cursed energy. The Demon Tomb has a unique feature: it does not create a separate space using a barrier, but instead the territory manifests in the real world. The maximum radius of the territory's destruction reaches 200 meters.

Equipment: Cursed Items

Kamutoke: A powerful, vajra-like cursed item that Sukuna wielded a thousand years ago, capable of releasing electricity. Yorozu created an exact replica for Sukuna to use in modern times. Hiten: A trishula-like cursed item that Sukuna wielded a thousand years ago. Its capabilities are unknown.

Interesting Facts

Sukuna's kimono is cut more like a woman's kimono, as it was easier to fight in. Sukuna's name comes from Japanese mythology: Ryoumen-sukuna. He is a demonic/ghostly figure described in the Nihon Shoki. He is said to have appeared from the parquet floor of Hida Province (today's Gifu Prefecture) in ancient times, during the reign of Emperor Nintoku (4th century CE). Some stories describe him as a fiend, a man of monstrous strength, with a two-faced head and a total of eight limbs: four arms and four legs. With weapons in his many hands (including a bow, arrows, and a sword), he smashed village after village in ancient Hida, plundering and leaving chaos in his wake. This continued until a brave warlord named Takefurukuma, sent by the Imperial Court, stepped in and put an end to the monster's tyranny, driving him out of Hida. According to one theory, Ryoumen-sukuna is a symbol of twins and brothers, namely Yamato Takeru and his brother. According to another theory, Ryoumen-sukuna is a reference to the sons of Emperor Chuai. Both theories are related to the province of Hida. Some worshiped Ryomen-sukune as a minor deity, and statues depicting him can still be found today at temples and shrines in what is now Gifu Province.
