Biography

Manchester-born Simon Riley joined the Special Air Service and spent much of his career carrying out numerous short-term assignments and undercover missions in classified locations. He became an expert in the clandestine craft, focusing on sabotage, ambushes and infiltration of restricted areas and dangerous environments. Ghost hid his identity behind a signature skull mask to maintain anonymity in the field. At one point, Ghost served in the same unit as Mace.

TF-141

Following the death of General Roman Barkov, Ghost was recruited by Captain John Price into the newly formed Task Force 141, where he became commander.

What in Verdansk

Following Al-Qatala's invasion of Verdansk on March 3, 2020, Ghost was deployed to the city to assist in the ceasefire initiative against the terrorist organization provided by Viktor Zakhaev. During one of the Accords' operations, Ghost assisted the team in infiltrating the occupied Verdansk airport to retrieve a nuclear device. When Al-Qatala released toxic gas in Verdansk, Ghost found a chaotic situation where Accords operators had turned on themselves and were attacking each other. He soon asked Price to send him backup he could trust. Ghost managed to escape the city and was sent to a classified location where Price informed him that Zakhaev's plan had worked and the ceasefire was now officially over. Ghost was assisted during this operation by Alex Keller, who was sent by Price. In December 2020, Ghost helped Price in Verdansk to stop Zakhaev from launching a missile strike on Verdansk. Ghost, along with Alex, Gus, Price, Nikolai, and Farah Karim, communicate with and assist Johnny "Soap" MacTavish "a few clicks away from the coast of Verdansk."

Murder of Gorbran

In July 2022, Ghost was sent on a strike mission to Al-Mazra under orders from both Laswell and General Shepard to establish visual contact with General Ghorbrani, the commander of the Quds Force, an Iranian special forces unit, in order to eliminate him as a potential threat while the latter was present to broker a deal with the Russian military. Ghost confirmed the general's presence, and Phillip Graves, the commander and CEO of Shadow Company, was given the green light to launch a ballistic cruise missile that completely obliterated the weapons deal site, killing everyone, including Ghorbrani, which Ghost later confirmed.

The hunt for Hassan and the stolen missiles

Several months after Ghorbrani's death, Major Ghassan Ziani, Ghorbrani's second in command, vowed revenge on the United States and was reported to be secretly conducting operations in Al Mazra. Ghost, along with Soap and a Marine Special Operations unit, were sent to capture or kill Ghassan. After fighting resistance from the Al Qatala, who were supposedly there to protect Ghassan, they were actually protecting a shipment that turned out to be a U.S.-made ballistic cruise missile. Shepard ordered Ghost and the team to destroy the missile before evacuating Al Mazra. Ghost and Soap were later sent to Las Almas to meet with Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas and Staff Sergeant Rodolfo Parra to hunt Gassan, who they believed was being harbored and protected by the Las Almas Cartel with corrupt elements of the Mexican military under the control of El Sin Nombre, the leader of the Las Almas Cartel. After successfully capturing Gassan with the help of Graves and with the support of an AC-130, they took Gassan to the desert to interrogate him about the location of the missiles. Gassan proved difficult to handle and they were ordered to release him as his detention was illegal. A few days later, Ghost, along with Soap, Alejandro and Graves, were conducting surveillance on a mansion owned by one of El Sin Nombre's lieutenants, Diego Salgado. After much discussion on how to get to the cartel leader, Soap volunteered for a risky mission to infiltrate the compound with Alejandro disguised as one of the bodyguards, with Ghost providing sniper surveillance and Graves on standby to capture him. After they managed to capture the cartel leader, who turned out to be Valeria Garza, a former employee of Alejandro's unit, they interrogated her about the location of Gassan and the missiles, and she offered the information in exchange for a deal to ensure her release and that her activities within the cartel were not disrupted.

The hunt for Hassan and the stolen missiles

During the interrogation of Valeria Ghost, along with the 141st, Los Vaqueros and Shadow Company, they participated in a raid on an oil rig located in the Gulf of Mexico, where they discovered and destroyed the second missile before it had a chance to launch.

The betrayal of Shadow Company and Shepard

When the team returned, they learned that Graves, with Shepard's support, had taken over the Los Vaqueros base and attacked them when Alejandro was captured, forcing Ghost and Soap to flee into the city and fight off the Shadows hunting them before regrouping at Alejandro's secret hideout, where they met up with Rodolfo and devised a plan to infiltrate an abandoned prison that was being used by Shadow Company as a personal black ops prison to free Alejandro and the Los Vaqueros fighters that were being held captive before escaping with the help of Price and Gus. Laswell later learns that Shepard and Graves were attempting to cover up a personal operation when Shadow Company lost 3 missiles they were transporting to their allies fighting Russia to a company of Russian mercenaries, who later gave them to Gussan so he could take revenge on the United States.

Ghost Team

Ghost was present when OTF-141 and Los Vaqueros formed Ghost's team. He then briefly removed his mask before donning the Ghost mask along with everyone else before heading off to retake Los Vaqueros headquarters, where they killed Graves and the Shadows. They then interrogated Valeria again, and she revealed that Ghassan and the final missile were in Chicago.

The Death of Hassan

As TF-141 and a squad of Marine Rangers approached Ghassan, with the latter under the protection of Al-Qatala, Ghost provided surveillance from another building. The team then rushed to take control after Ghassan launched a missile that was headed towards Washington, D.C., and Soap managed to disable it with the help of Laswell. He would then save Soap from death by shooting Ghassan before the latter had a chance to throw him out of a window. Ghost along with Price, Gus, Soap, and Laswell were at a bar discussing the events that followed their mission in Chicago. Laswell then hands them a photo of a man who Price recognized as Vladimir Makarov.

Makarov's Revenge

On November 10, 2023, as TF-141 reached its designated departure point for an unknown mission, Laswell radioed Price, informing him that Makarov had escaped. Which prompted Price to order the pilot to turn around and return the squad back to base.

Raid on a nuclear power plant

That same day, Ghost and the rest of the squad were sent to the Urzykstan Nuclear Power Plant after Connie's soldiers were spotted approaching the plant. Price and Ghost inspected the plant while Soap and Gaz were tasked with securing the perimeter. There, the squad engaged Connie's forces and discovered that they were attempting to transport containers of Sarin gas, a remnant of Barkov's program. Despite the squad's best efforts, the mercenaries were able to escape with the gas, and Price nearly lost his life trying to stop them.

Operation in Siberia

Information gathered during Romanova's interrogation led to TF-141 learning of Connie's base in St. Petersburg, prompting them to attack it. Following the attack, the squad captured Andrei Nolan, Makarov's right-hand man, from whom they learned that Makarov was transporting someone to an abandoned prison complex in Siberia, prompting them to intercept the convoy before it reached its destination. Soap, Price, and Gaz positioned themselves underwater while Ghost and Farah provided surveillance. Once the convoy reached the ambush position, the squad executed their plan and began swimming toward the vehicle to extract the prisoner. Eventually, Soap, Price, and Gaz captured the prisoner and brought him to the surface where they found out that the man Makarov was transporting was none other than General Shepherd, which enraged Price, Gaz then reminded him that they were in an unprotected location and suggested that they move to a safer location. Shepherd then told the squad that he had information on Makarov and that they would get it once they got him out of here. Price reluctantly agreed to this, the squad then fought their way through Connie's reinforcements. Eventually, they reached the extraction zone and boarded a helicopter. The squad then took General Shepherd to a remote location in Siberia where they told him to report back and tell Congress the whole truth, which Shepherd reluctantly agreed to. The task force then took him aboard the helicopter and left Siberia.

Operation "Kingfish"

2013. Ghost, Roach, Price, Soap, Sandman and Frost were sent to Operation Kingfish to capture Makarov, but the building Makarov was supposed to be in was booby-trapped. Ghost cleared several rooms and killed a fighter in the control room. Price noticed a bomb in the room, an explosion occurred, but everyone escaped, and they had no choice but to evacuate to the plane, but MacTavish was wounded, and Sandman ordered Roach to drag "Soap" to the helicopter. At this time, Price and Ghost cover the retreat, but Price orders Ghost to retreat with the rest. When everyone got into the helicopter, Price covered the retreat of the fighters and was wounded, and later captured and sent to the Gulag.
