Squall Leonhart (スコール・レオンハート Sukōru Reonhāto) is the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII. He is a young SeeD who is usually introverted. Some consider him a cold and serious person; always focused on what he has to do. But through the events of the game, he undergoes a change in his personality.

His weapon, the gunblade, is one of the most iconic weapons in the Final Fantasy series.

Squall Leonhart is a teenager with brown hair and blue eyes, described by Rinoa as very handsome. He usually wears a black leather "bomber" jacket with fur trim on the collar and a white V-neck shirt, black trousers with three intertwined belts, black boots, and gloves. He wears a silver stud in his left ear, a silver chain necklace with a Gryphus, and a ring.
