History

Chigiri is a forward prodigy who was chained down by a leg injury in his past but he let go of his fears while at Blue Lock so he could continue playing football wholeheartedly. When first arriving at Blue Lock, Chigiri was a member of Team Z. Chigiri spent half of the First Selection avoiding participation or keeping it to a bare minimum but when he was motivated by Isagi in Team Z's third game, he decided to let go of his fear and play football to become the world's best striker like his rivals.

Blue lock project

The Blue Lock Project, or Player Improvement Project, is a special soccer project created by Jinpachi Ego and funded by the Japan Football Union with the intention of developing not only the best striker in the world, but a solitary hero for Japan that would lead the nation into finally winning the World Cup using Ego's extreme training regimens and coaching. Additionally, anyone who loses at Blue Lock would forever lose the right to play for Japan.

Appearance

Chigiri is a young man with reddish pink hair and deep pink eyes. Chigiri has always had a very feminine face since he was young, as shown by his long eyelashes and soft facial features. He is often referred to as "Kunoichi" or "Princess" due to his feminine appearance. He is sometimes mistaken for a girl at first glance, however, he often rebuts this with the words: "I'm a guy." He has been praised by other players for being attractive, though he seems indifferent to such comments. He looks very similar to his mother and older sister. Chigiri's hair had been only neck length until he tore the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his right leg, after which he let it grow out. Chigiri's hair currently goes past his shoulders and has one long bang that sweeps to the right side of his face. During games, he braids the left side of his hair so that it doesn't get in his face.

Family

Chigiri has mother and an older sister.

Personality

Chigiri is a confident and driven individual who loves surpassing others on the field. From a very young age, he has always thought himself superior to others due to his naturally strong muscles, amazing skill in football, and his outstanding speed, calling himself a 'chosen one'. He looked down on those who got in his way or annoyed him but was mostly behaved as though stating facts. He is described as a super-egoist, cocky, and the one of the most aggressive players on the pitch. Only when he tore his ACL did his sense of superiority start to crumble and, due to being bullied by the Wanima Brothers, he became afraid of playing football for fear of losing 'who he is'. He was so fearful of this, that he accepted the invitation to Blue Lock to find a reason to give up rather than continue to strive for his dream. But after retaking a hold of his ego and ambition, he has shown himself to be a persistent and stubborn force on the field. After this point, Chigiri demonstrates an amiable but still self-assured attitude. He often makes sassy remarks towards both opponents and friends alike, and has no qualms about trying to crush people he feels hard done by. Such as Zantetsu when he outruns him on the field and even Isagi when he goes ahead in the Second Selection instead of waiting for him. Off the field, Chigiri is generally easygoing and mellow. During his time on Team Z, he'd casually chat with Kunigami and eventually made a team with him showing that he fully trusts his abilities, and went on to demonstrate great chemistry with him. He even invited Reo to join them, recoginizing that his balanced skill set and experience in navigating a trio would come in handy; apparently willing to put aside any past animosity for the sake of pragmitism.

Personality pt 2

After he joins Team White in the Second Selection, he even gets along fairly well with Nagi, watching videos about professional players and testing out a variety of objects that Nagi can trap, making a mess in their bedroom and generally antagonizing Baro. He also takes great care of his body and appearance, tending diligently to his injured knee. His propensity for hair care is especially noticeable and has been demonstrated on a few occasions, though it should be noted that blow-drying hair is a more common cultural practice among both genders than in the West. Still, he's in the habit of twirling his hair while he's deep in thought and gets visibly irritated when Aryu touches it and even slaps his hand away. Chigiri is shown to have great focus being a player who is constantly running through tight spaces, between players, and even switching from dribbling to passing. Chigiri admits that he feels a great joy surpassing other players with his speed, and when is inspired by Isagi and retakes his will to play and win he finally leaves behind his fear and begins to once again be that player he used to be in middle school and states he will become the best striker in the world. A clear example of his ego is when in the match against Japan U-20, he runs out of stamina due to not having played soccer for nearly a year before going to Blue Lock and is substituted out; Chigiri is so frustrated that he cries once he sits in the bench.

Skills

Chigiri's natural physical disposition allows him to run at incredible speeds compared to most players and along with his great focus he is able to keep control of the ball and his speed while moving through tight spaces, between players, and switching between dribbling and passing seamlessly. After training with Manshine City (English football team), Chigiri more carefully decides where he is going to cut and run as Chigiri now aims for his ideal shooting zone using his refined speed and dribbling instead of blindly charging into the penalty area as fast as possible.

Dormitory test at Blue Lock

The entrance exam to Blue Lock wherein the 300 participants are divided into 25 groups of 12 people and every 12 people are held in a large room and the last person who is hit with the football by the end of 136 seconds in a game of tag is disqualified. Once that person is eliminated the remaining 11 people form a "team" and proceed to the next selection.

First selection

Twenty-five teams are divided into five team groups to perform a round-robin tournament, the top two teams of each group will survive and move on, and the remaining three teams of the group are disqualified and forced out. However, the top strikers of each of the three teams disqualified get to survive as well.

Second selection

A player battle selection broken into 5 stages: 1st Stage: The artificial intelligence hologram GK [BLUE LOCK MAN system] is introduced, and it is necessary for players to achieve 100 goals in 90 minutes alone against the hologram goalkeeper. The difficulty of this stage adjusts as the number of goals scored increases, and there are stages from "Lv.1," "Lv.2," to "Lv.MAX." Only those who have cleared this stage can proceed to the 2nd stage. 2nd Stage: Those who have cleared the first stage, now must divide into teams of three and battle other teams in a 3v3 game to reach 5 in the 3rd stage. Teams that lose in the 3rd stage come back to the 2nd stage to face off in a 2v2 game where one person is eliminated from Blue Lock. The rankings are now based on the order in which the participants cleared the first stage. 3rd Stage: Those who have cleared the second stage must now face off against each other in a 3v3 game to 5. The winners get to steal a player from the losing team and move on to the 4th stage. 4th Stage: Those who have cleared the third stage must now face off against each other in a 4v4 game to 5. The winners get to steal a player from the losing team and they clear the Second Selection by having 5 players. 5th Stage: Once the team of 5 is assembled, they become a Clear Team and move on the Third Selection.

Third selection

To start the selection, players must play a 5v5 game against 5 of the world's best soccer players. Winning is not a necessity; only participation in the game acts as a rating of the last string of players and teaches them a lesson about the difference between them and the world. After all the teams possible have cleared the Second Selection, they gather together, and the best 6 players are identified and separated. They are divided into three teams: A, B, and C, and the remaining 29 players are given the option of playing with one of those teams in order to prove themselves worthy of being in the starting lineup of a game against their generation's best.

Final selection

On February 18, 2019[2], each and every Blue Lock player who made it to the Third Selection as well as the only Wild Card survivor, along with the regulars from the old Japan U-20 are made to decide on a country to train in. The players must decide on a country to train in based on preference and what they wish to gain from the training. When the players pick their country, they will be separated into strata based on that country and will get to train with the U-20 level players of the best club team in those respective countries and the master striker that reigns over that team and country. After initial training, a team of 11 made up of whoever gets picked as a regular by the master striker from the club team or Blue Lock will play in a Round Robin tournament that will pit Blue Lock rivals and world-class players against each other in short but highly dynamic games. After the tourney is over, only the top Blue Lock players of the remaining 23 players will be picked as regulars for the reconstructed Japan U-20 team in the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
