At the beginning of Final Fantasy IX, Vivi is quite naive, believing in people easily. He was also cowardly and afraid of his magic, even when his friends were in danger, such as when Garnet was captured by the plant in the Cursed Forest without being able to do anything about it. However, after the incident with the Black Mage, Vivi's personality changed greatly; he was no longer scared so easily and was willing to confront Kuja without thinking about the danger involved.
