Mike is the middle child of Karen and Ted. He lives in Hawkins with his parents and sisters Nancy and Holly. He has been friends with Lucas and Will since he was a young child. Dustin joined their group in the fourth grade. The boys spend a lot of time together, and one of their favorite activities is the game Dungeons & Dragons. They bring elements of this game into real life, calling themselves "The Squad", in which everyone has their own role. Mike is a paladin in the Squad. Will lives with his mother Joyce, brother Jonathan and adopted sister Eleven in the town of Lenora Hills, where he paints on canvas. Will's emotional state in season 4 is very difficult. The creators of the film show us that he is in love with Mike. Will tries to "fix" Mike and Eleven's failing relationship, despite the fact that he himself is in love with Mike. Will is adamant that his feelings are not mutual, and therefore just wants Mike and Eleven to be happy together. But while watching the series, it feels like Eleven and Will are trying to fix Mike and Eleven's relationship without Mike's participation. It feels like Mike is not interested in this. In the scene where Eleven is strangled by Vecna's tentacles in the Upside Down, Eleven is on the verge of death. Mike, Argyle, Jonathan, and Will watch this in the normal world, and Will pushes Mike to tell Eleven that he loves her. After Mike's legendary monologue, Eleven for some reason has little contact with him, which may mean that she knows he is lying. Mike mentioned in his address to Eleven that his life began when he found her wet in the forest. But this is not true. At that time, Mike was worried about Will's disappearance, and he took Eleven to himself mostly because she knew about Will.
