Matsumoto is an attractive woman with blue eyes, full lips, and long, wavy blonde hair, almost orange in the anime but distinctly blonde in the manga version. In the past, she seems to have had short hair, but now she wears it down to her back, falling in scale. Accentuating her beauty, under her lip is a small black mole. However, Matsumoto's truly unmistakable physical feature is her enormous breasts, which have caused numerous comical situations throughout the series, most of them due to the reaction of the male characters to the sight of this Shinigami. Unless she is in a gigai, Matsumoto wears the standard Shinigami uniform, which she sports with a low neckline. She also adds a small chain around her neck and a pink cloth that she wears over her shoulders. In the past, Rangiku wore this same cloth tied around her neck. The Lieutenant insignia, unlike her colleagues in the rank, is not worn on her left arm, but on her waist, attached to one of the loops of the white sash of the standard Shinigami outfit.

Rangiku Matsumoto's personality

Most of the time, Matsumoto appears to be a lazy and sluggish person who hates paperwork and loves drinking and partying, something that often annoys her Captain Hitsugaya. She is not very modest about her appearance, and frequently refers to or even complains about the size of her breasts in casual conversation, much to the embarrassment (or amusement) of anyone around her. Furthermore, she doesn't seem to care about using her more than considerable feminine charms to get what she wants, as seen when she tries to convince Ichigo Kurosaki to let her stay at his house by unbuttoning his shirt, she is also overly vain especially when Hitsugaya finds her lying on the floor after getting drunk and she thanks him by telling him that she almost drowned and he scolds her for which she responds by saying that being beautiful has its disadvantages. Although at first glance Matsumoto may seem a bit self-centered, she is actually a very sensitive person and perceptive to the feelings of those around her, something that has been seen quite a few times throughout the story. Despite her superficial and frivolous image, on occasions that deserve it she is very serious, and has proven to be a very capable fighter with a remarkable sense of strategy, even resorting to techniques such as feigning her defeat or provoking her enemies to gain a certain advantage in combat.

History of Rangiku Matsumoto

Not much is known about Matsumoto's past. She hails from the Rukongai, where she was rescued as a child by Gin Ichimaru, when she was about to die of starvation. This first meeting, which began the friendship between the two children and the end of Matsumoto's loneliness, would be celebrated from then on as her birthday, as she was unable to remember her true birth date (which seems to indicate that she was an orphan). Plasm's appearance is that of a completely dark female humanoid form with stars all over her body and waist-length hair of the same color and characteristics as her body.
