Caesar Zeppeli

Origin of the character

Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli (シーザー・アントニオ・ツェペリ, Shīzā Antonio Tseperi?) is a central ally and friend of Joseph Joestar who appears in Battle Tendency. He is the grandson of William Anthonio Zeppeli, and battles against the Pillar Men alongside his comrades and teachers to honor his heritage as a Zeppeli.

Appearance

Caesar is a young man with a large, muscular body and disheveled blond hair, which seems to have a small lock tied up. His distinctive features are two triangular scars on both cheeks at a height close to his eyes. He is shown to be a very attractive person, managing to swoon and attract women using his appearance, charm, charisma and beautiful words. On her accessories is a large bandage around her head designed with a row of mosaic triangles and adorned with two feathers on each side of her head.

Personality

Caesar is a passionate, yet focused man, dedicated to defeating the Pillar Men. As a young boy, Caesar and his brothers were seemingly abandoned by their father, making him a violent and dangerous criminal. When he was saved by his father from the Pillar Men's trap, Caesar changed his hatred and resentment to having great pride in his family name. Caesar is portrayed as an arrogant Hamon user, belittling Joseph's lack of experience using the Hamon and taking no chances to antagonize and generally humiliate him. However, his true colors are later revealed - an honorable man, proud of his family tradition of fighting evil and seeking to avenge his friend Mark who was killed by the Pillar Men. When Joseph shows his kind and honorable side, their relationship improves considerably. Overall, Caesar is respectful to his superiors and especially Lisa Lisa. When it comes to his peers, while he maintains a good neutral relationship, when he truly cares for someone it is out of true love, best evidenced by sacrificing himself for Joseph's antidote, pointed out by Messina. The other defining trait is his temperamental personality, as he reacts quickly when getting into a fight, even though he knows he could get hurt. He has great pride in his family name, when Joseph told him he didn't care, Caesar punched him without thinking. That flaw in his personality proved fatal when he made the mistake of running into Wamuu and Kars' lair alone, as well as trying to beat Wamuu single-handedly. Having great determination, Caesar continued to fight despite being mortally wounded, giving his last breaths dedicated to Joseph just before he died. However, Caesar is a serious person and shows it most of the time, fighting zealously against the Pillar Men and despairing at Joseph's antics when it comes to fighting.

Skills

Hamon Born a Hamon user through his grandfather and father's bloodline, Caesar was able to use the Hamon from a young age, though he learned to use it better under Lisa Lisa's training. He is capable of using more advanced techniques such as concentrating his Hamon into his fingers, and like Joseph, he can concentrate the Hamon into objects, such as weapons, food, or even living beings. In one particular instance, he hypnotized a woman by concentrating the Hamon into her, through a kiss.

Personal history (past)

As a child, Caesar greatly admired his father, Mario Zeppeli. But unexpectedly, when he was ten, his father left him and his siblings without any explanation, warning, or reason. As a result, Caesar grew to hate his father, thinking that he was leading a new, carefree life without them. His mother became absent for some reason and the relatives soon stole everything that was left of his now orphaned family, leading Caesar to become a delinquent and a bully due to the bad influences he had when he was still a child and even ended up in a reformatory which made everything worse for him. He made a name for himself by committing every crime imaginable, except for murder, and was widely feared. He would use a key to start a fight and finish it quickly. At the time, Caesar was unaware that his Hamon ability had already fully awakened and that he was subconsciously using it in his battles. When he was 16, he saw his father walking in Rome; he followed him with the intent to kill him, passing through a secret passage beneath the Colosseum that led to the Pillar Men. Caesar saw a diamond in the wall they were locked in. Unaware that it was part of a trap set by Wammu, he accidentally activated it, but his father pushed him out of the way before he could harm Caesar. Sacrificing himself despite not knowing it was his own son, Caesar regained his respect for his father, and swore vengeance on the Pillar Men. Some time after the events, Caesar finds Lisa Lisa in Venice at the request of his late father. He trains with her to use the art of the Ripple, but has apparently learned little more than the basics, as he has yet to go through the final part of the Ripple training to fully master it, alongside Joseph.

Historia personal (Battle tendency)

Caesar meets Joseph in Rome, where each gets a bad first impression of the other, Joseph seeing him as a mere womanizer and Caesar considering him to be unsophisticated and uncivilized, which only added to their already existing grudge towards the Joestar family. The two have a duel at a fountain where Caesar displays his superior and advanced Ripple skills by using his "Bubble Launcher" technique and using the Ripple to control a woman through a kiss. Their fight ends when Joseph is trapped inside one of Caesar's bubbles and a dove (which Joseph had placed with the use of the Ripple) comes out of the woman's mouth and onto Caesar's face.
