Rei leads a monotonous and isolated life. The first time we see Rei II she is badly injured and wrapped in bandages, in so much pain that she even has trouble sitting up on the stretcher. Despite this, Gendo Ikari treats her coldly. Using Rei in this way was probably a ruse by Gendo to get Shinji to pilot Evangelion Unit 01, after seeing that Misato Katsuragi and Ritsuko Akagi were unable to convince him. Rei lives alone in apartment number 402, which is part of a large block of flats located on the western edge of Tokyo-3. From this episode, it is clear that she places very little value on her own personal space and comfort. She is the First Child chosen by the Marduk Institute, designated as pilot of Evangelion Unit 00

Relationship with Shinji ♥︎

Shinji soon takes an interest in her despite the fact that she is difficult to get to know. After receiving her new ID from Shinji, Rei heads to the base to conduct the experiment to reactivate Unit-00. During the experiment, she brings Gendo's glasses inside the Entry Plug. Apparently, this helped her calm down and the revival experiment was successful. When the activation is complete, Rei tilts her head back and a series of air bubbles escape from her mouth. This indicates that she had been holding her breath throughout the experiment, due to how nervous she was. Rei's relationship with Shinji plays a very important role in the series, however, in the first few episodes she is indifferent towards him. The two experience several awkward situations due to their lack of social skills. She sees Shinji as the first to extend her kindness, being the only person she has ever said "thank you" to. Slowly, her loyalty to Gendo becomes eroded due to her interactions with Shinji. In The End of Evangelion, when Gendo attempted to activate Human Complementation, she rejects him and gives the powers to Shinji.

Relationship with Asuka ♥︎

From the moment Rei rejected Asuka's friend request, the two became irreversibly estranged. Asuka mistakenly perceives Rei as a girl who thinks she is better than others. She often calls Rei "Model Girl" in a sarcastic manner. Rei's silence only worsens Asuka's impression of her. Asuka repeatedly tells jokes about Rei and her relationship with Shinji. But she also shows jealousy when she sees them spending time together. Asuka becomes enraged when Rei and Shinji successfully perform the dance routine to fight Israfel; she was having difficulty with said routine.

Relationship with Gendo ♥︎

Rei's bond with Gendo is one of the most complex in the series. Being a clone of Yui Ikari, Gendo has kept her very close to him. Before Shinji's arrival in Tokyo-3, Gendo was the only one to show kindness to Rei. Her memory of Gendo saving her remained unchanged in her mind for a long time, so much so that she keeps Gendo's glasses as a memento, and developed loyalty towards him. As time goes on, Rei distances herself from Gendo, and slowly turns her attention to Shinji. Her disobedience towards Gendo begins when she hesitates to attack Evangelion Unit 03 after it is infected by Bardiel. She then disobeys Gendo's orders on several occasions, reaching its ultimate expression when she sacrifices herself to protect Shinji from Armisael. Even though her soul was transferred to a new body, she still retained a vague memory of her past life. Therefore, on the day of Third Impact, her loyalty to Gendo has completely disappeared.

Relationship with Ritsuko ♥︎

She sees Rei as a replacement for Yui, Ritsuko compares Rei to Gendo, describing her to Shinji as "a good girl, although like your father, she's not good at... living."

Dummy Plug ♥︎

Rei spends large amounts of time inside a tube filled with LCL connected to a structure resembling a giant brain in the Dummy Plug Plant. Near the end of the series, it is revealed that said room contains a tank filled with LCL containing dozens of soulless clones of Rei. According to Ritsuko Akagi, clones are the core of the Dummy Plug system; she also refers to these soulless clones as "spare parts".
