Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist of Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a Demon, being the first of his kind, who has lived for over a thousand years, being as such, responsible for the origin of the other Demons.

appearance

As far as his physical appearance is concerned, Muzan has the appearance of a young man whose age is around 20 years old; he has short hair styled in curls with some strands hanging on his forehead. Like all Demons, Muzan has eyes similar to those of a feline, in his case, plum red in color and the nails on his fingers are pointed and blue. Muzan has the ability to change his physical appearance to disguise himself, appearing either as a black-haired woman dressed in a kimono or a small child. His ability to disguise himself was so perfected that he could even change his presence and confuse his own subordinates.

personality

Muzan is callous, ruthless, and exceptionally intelligent. He sees no value in any human he has encountered and shows little value in his own subordinates. Rarely visually upset or happy, he appears completely drab and aloof on most occasions, even when cruelly murdering his own subordinates. The only times he shows emotion is when his vision of perfection advances or when his subordinates completely submit to his will. The manga shows him to be more expressive, particularly when enraged and his facial features are exaggerated to show it as such (possibly as a way to display his normally unreadable emotions). The most notable trait that Muzan possesses is extreme narcissism, his megalomania and an obsession with becoming the perfect being possessing immortality. This last behavior is derived from his own Thanatophobia, having experienced closeness to death literally since his own birth. As he has had nearly 1000 years to live and observe, along with almost no real challenges, his extreme self-centeredness is almost expected. He considers almost nothing to be his concern except overcoming his inability to walk in the sun, which is his main drive. His long life and primary obsession with attaining immortality has led him to want every plan he concocts to be absolutely perfect, and his megalomaniacal behavior blinds him to his own failures. His belief that he is the closest thing to a perfect being causes him to have zero tolerance for any failure, brutally punishing those who fail him or those he deems weak, even if the failures are minor. His egocentrism and delusional sense of self-worth are so great that he cannot stand being mocked or corrected in any way, believing that others only exist to serve him. It also means that he rarely takes any opponent or threat seriously.

personality

Being someone so obsessed with the idea of ​​perfection, Muzan despises the very concept of change; be it change of circumstances, physical, emotional, or change of any kind. He equates change with decay, and thus, evidence of imperfection. In his own words, he loves things that remain unchanging, constant, and in a state of permanence. His airs of superiority are not only evident in his behavior but also in his way of dressing, choosing to wear quite formal Western clothing and expensive kimonos according to the appearances he has been seen adopting throughout the series, so we can deduce that Muzan loves to live an opulent lifestyle, which combined with his terrifying presence make him a quite complete character. Muzan has shown to be quite manipulative and cunning, being able to blend into human society normally, even having a family of his own to add to it. A long life and continuous practice has allowed him to take on many roles in society and perform them capably, including children and women if he so chooses. This life has also given him great intelligence and the ability to think tactically. Muzan is a quick thinker and a strategist who is able to deal with unfavorable situations quickly and quite well, though this may also be because the loss of his subordinates means nothing to him in the long run. Due to his perceived superiority and two-faced nature, he feels little attachment to his minions, using and discarding them as disposable pawns whenever he pleases. He does not allow his subordinates to question his will, regularly enacting brutal retaliation if they do so. Many of his subordinates, in turn, are very afraid of him, carefully measuring their words and thoughts for fear of saying or thinking anything that would displease him.

He is able to sway many demons to his side with promises of power, vengeance, and greatness, as long as they serve him. His intelligence and manipulation shine through here, as many find the promises quite appealing, as he encounters many of his subordinates at their lowest, when their emotions are easy fodder for him. Unfortunately, all of these promises are ultimately false, given that Kibutsuji only cares about himself and has no qualms about killing his own men to protect his own safety.

powers and abilities

Being the first Devil, Muzan's powers surpass anything seen before. Unlike other demons, Muzan possesses a unique body with which he can make use of his complex abilities. Inside him are five brains and seven hearts. If a simultaneous attack affects these vital organs, he will be greatly weakened. In addition to this, Muzan can move his vital organs within his body in order to avoid a fatal blow. Muzan is extremely strong despite his fragile appearance. He can deliver powerful blows capable of sending a human flying through the air with a kick or smashing his head against a solid wall without the slightest effort. Muzan is also fast, being able to attack an ordinary human with his claws and infect them with his blood fast enough for no one to notice. Even when one of his Lesser Moons tried to escape from him, being able to get away a considerable distance without Nakime's help, in the blink of an eye he had already decapitated it. Like all the Demons he creates, Muzan can regenerate from any kind of wound, even recovering his limbs when they are severed; he is also able to withstand an explosion at close range, being able to rebuild his body as quickly as it is destroyed, but the highest point of his regeneration is that he can even regenerate his own head when it is cut off, unlike the Demons he creates which die when decapitated, with direct exposure to sunlight being the only way to kill Muzan.

Demon blood

It is one of his main abilities; with his blood, Muzan can turn an ordinary human into a Demon who will be under his control thanks to a component present in his blood which when entering the bloodstream of a human, causes their cells to begin to transform, thus making a human become a Demon. The physical changes and powers that the newly created Demon acquires vary depending on the number of people he eats, and can even use a supernatural ability called Demonic Blood Techniques by manipulating his blood for various offensive or defensive purposes. However, if a human receives Muzan's blood in large quantities, their cells will not withstand the physical changes and will self-destruct, causing a horrific death by causing the person to literally dissolve into their own flesh.

Nullifying another Demon's regenerative qualities

Muzan, being the one who gave rise to all Demons, is the only one capable of killing others of his kind by nullifying the regenerative qualities of his blood and cells, being able to inflict mortal wounds on any Demon who dares to oppose him, destroying his body completely without the need to expose it to sunlight or through the use of Nichirin Weapons.

When Muzan turns a human into a Demon by injecting their blood, he transmits their cells through his bloodstream, thereby ensuring that he shares a bond with the Demon; in this way, he can know their location, read their mind, sense their presence, and if he so chooses, destroy their cells. Muzan uses this last to destroy the Demon if for some reason it dares to reveal its identity or if it tries to betray him. However, if a Demon has enough willpower to resist Muzan's control, by refusing to eat human flesh or drink human blood, they can escape the curse.

Muzan can see through his eyes what the demons he has created see, thus ensuring that he will not be betrayed by his creation.

Muzan has the ability to assimilate and absorb any individual who comes into contact with his body, also gaining their qualities and powers if he absorbs a Demon.

change of form

Muzan can change his physical appearance to disguise himself by appearing with a different aura and presence to confuse his enemies and allies alike. Muzan has been seen to be able to take many forms, from a woman, a child, and even turning into a mass of flesh with fangs which he uses to tear apart his opponents.

Dark Blood: Thorny Roots With this blood technique, Muzan manipulates his flesh and blood to create a barbed wire which he uses to trap his enemies.

past

During the Heian Period, Muzan was a terminally ill human who was unintentionally turned into a Devil as a result of an experimental medicine used on him and has since made it a personal obsession to achieve immortality by overcoming his only weakness: sunlight. In order to complete said goal, Muzan seeks to either find the plant used on him for his illness called the Blue Spider Lily or create Devils in hopes that one of these beings will overcome the weakness to Sunlight so Muzan can consume it.
