Sung Jin Woo

Sung Jinwoo (성진우, Seong Jin-Wu) is the main protagonist of Solo Leveling. He is the world's strongest hunter and the second Shadow Monarch, having inherited the position from his predecessor Ashborn. Originally an infamously weak E-rank Hunter, Jinwoo was given the opportunity of a lifetime when he was selected as the System's Player, giving him the unique ability to grow in strength without restraint. As a result, by taking advantage of the opportunities offered to him by the System, Jinwoo eventually rose to power as humanity's greatest Hunter.

Appearance

Jinwoo is a tall, handsome, and muscular young man with grey eyes, sharp facial features, and black hair with bangs that reaches down to his eyes. When he uses his powers or feels intense emotions, his eyes glow purple and his facial features become more pronounced. He prefers dark clothing and is often seen wearing elegant, stylish outfits ranging from tailored suits to long, hooded coats. After defeating the Monarchs in the revised timeline created by the Reincarnation Cup, he also begins wearing a black glove on his left hand to cover the burn scars he received there during his rematch with Antares. [5] Before being chosen as the System Player, Jinwoo had a very different appearance. He was shorter and had a noticeably thinner physique, with long, bushy hair that covered his ears. His face was very childlike, making him look even younger than his sister Jinah (who was still a teenager at the time), and he tended to dress in casual attire, favoring a simple blue hoodie and jeans. It was also common to see him with bandages on his arms and legs due to the frequent injuries he received in raids.

Personality

Jinwoo is a humble and benevolent individual who cares deeply for his family and has a burning desire to become stronger. As a result, he shares a close relationship with his sister and mother, and rarely wastes an opportunity to refine his skills and gain more power. His deep bond with his family also makes him absolutely ruthless towards anyone who dares to hurt them, as shown when he slaughtered Groctar and his minions for attempting to kill Jinah, and murdered Hwang Dongsoo for torturing Jinho. It should be noted that despite being the strongest Hunter in the world, Jinwoo is not particularly arrogant and is polite and calm in person. He is also mostly indifferent to materialistic desires and can be very selfless, as shown when he teleported to Jeju Island without a second thought to save the other Korean S-rank Hunters from certain death. In battle, however, he is ruthless, as he tends to slaughter his enemies indiscriminately, and even somewhat disdainful, as shown when he mocked the Ant King by calling him a "mere insect" and mocked Kandiaru for the flaws he made in his System design.

Instead, when he was weak, Jinwoo was very timid and insecure due to his incompetence as a hunter and his complicated financial situation. Although he cared deeply for his family and spent years risking his life raiding for their sake, he was secretly ashamed of his circumstances, as shown when he lied to Joohee about why he had chosen hunting as his career path. However, his traumatic experience in the Double Dungeon would give him everything he needed to become stronger, and being betrayed and left to die by his fellow hunters while trapped inside the dungeon would teach him the hard lesson that his kindness could be exploited by others for their own gain. As a result, from that point on, Jinwoo vowed to never recklessly endanger his own life again under the guise of the greater good and took a more self-protective stance as a hunter, focusing primarily on accumulating strength and eventually becoming the fearsome warrior he is today.

Sung Jin Woo's Shadow Summoning

Igris (이그리트): is the shadow of the blood-red commander Igris. Igris is a large knight with a light violet glow, jet-black armor covering him from head to toe, a tattered black cape, and a long red hair-like ornament extending from the back of his helmet. His left eye still bears the scar Jinwoo gave him during their battle. Igris is loyal, respectful, and chivalrous, to the point that he tends to kneel before his master whenever he finishes a battle for him. A running gag with his character is that he always brings the heads of his victims to Jinwoo, which eventually became a problem when Iron started copying him. Much like Jinwoo, Igris also doesn't approve of Iron's nonsense, and usually gets irritated when Iron overdoes it in battle. Beru (베르): is the shadow of the Ant King. Beru is a massive humanoid Shadow Ant with a light purple glow, neon eyes, sharp claws, and smoking wings. Following Jinwoo's disappearance in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, he loses a considerable amount of his magic power and is reduced to nothing more than a floating head. Because he was born to kill, Beru revels in his power and has an obvious bloodlust in battle. As such, he is very brutal in combat, rarely holding back unless ordered to and going straight for his enemy's weak points. He is also somewhat condescending towards his fellow shadow soldiers, as shown when he began yelling angrily at them when they did not follow his lead and escape the Ice Monarch's ice prison.

Bellion (벨리온): He is a servant of Ashborn and the strongest shadow in existence. Bellion is a large, muscular shadow warrior with two pairs of black wings on his back, a patchy black armor, white eyes, and glowing violet skin with a single-horned helmet atop his head. He also carries a massive centipede-like sword, which he wields like a whip and a sword. Bellion is shown to be composed and does not display much emotion. However, he is deeply loyal to the Shadow Monarch, both past and present, and has never doubted his decisions. This would later lead him to notice that his two masters had similar character traits and to genuinely believe that Ashborn made the right decision in choosing Jinwoo as his successor. Iron (아이언): He was Kim Chul's shadow. Iron has the same appearance as he had in life, wearing the same armor and wielding the same weapons. As a shadow, he also has a light violet glow. When he evolved to the rank of Elite Knight, his axe grew larger and took on a smoky quality. Iron is an unpredictable guy and has a tendency to go overboard in battle, usually causing excessive destruction with his antics. He also takes pride in his kills and gets easily frustrated when his opponents prove to be immune to his Taunt skill. Although Jinwoo considers Iron a fool, he keeps him around as the latter always gets his job done well in battle. Greed: He was Hwang Dongsoo's shadow. Greed is a muscular humanoid shadow with a light violet glow, glowing red eyes, bright violet hair, sharp claws, and a fractured, horned skull mask that exposes the upper right side of his face.

Because he is fully aware of the crimes he committed in life, Greed is humble, calm, and subservient to his master, often asking permission to speak and addressing him with honorifics. At the same time, however, he displays bloodlust in battle. Kaisel (카이셀): is the shadow of Kaisellin, a wyvern that Baran used as his battle mount. Kaisel is a large wyvern with black scales, sharp teeth, a bright purple neck and belly, bright purple wings, bright purple horns, and a long black tail. Tusk (어금니) is Kargalgan's shadow. Tusk is a large orc with bright red skin and glowing blue eyes. He wears a long, black hooded cloak and a necklace of skulls. Tusk is obedient, calm, and shy, as demonstrated when he sheepishly scratched the back of his head upon meeting a group of stunned journalists during the Ahjin Guild's first dungeon raid. However, he can also be competitive and a bit of a show-off, as demonstrated during his confrontation with the three dragons of Ashborn's shadow army.
