Persona Attributes
appearance
Lyney is a young man with violet eyes, pale skin and short ash blonde hair tied in a braid. She has a teardrop-shaped mark on her right cheek. Lyney wears a top hat and a black cape with a red bow. Underneath she is wearing a white sleeveless shirt with a black corset, white sleeves and black shorts. She also wears black and white gloves.
personality
Lyney is a skilled magician who likes a show. He is very affable and friendly compared to his siblings Lynette and Fréminet, who are reserved and introverted respectively. He and his sister are talented magicians, having learned from Caesar in their youth, when they lived on the streets. He cares a lot about his siblings, he wants to make sure they have a home to live in and takes care of them whenever he can. Despite all his joy, Lyney has a dark and traumatic past with his sister, but they maintain a very good relationship, comparing her to the only truth in a world full of lies and falsehoods. As a result, he is willing to do anything to stay with her. Although he tries to keep her ties to the Fatui discreet, he remains willing to work for her cause due to Arlecchino's teachings and the gratitude he feels toward her for giving her family a home.
The people of Fontaine have a real passion for stories, gory cases and surprising plays. It was in the midst of this panorama when magic shows once again made their appearance on the scene. All you need is a ticket and a little free time to embark on a magical journey full of cheers and surprises. If one were to ask which magician provides the best adventures on stage, most fans will answer in unison one name: Lyney. This romantic and talented magician may seem carefree, but his shows are full of true miracles. In this profession, it is enough to have a good trick up your sleeve to ensure your daily bread and be able to lead a good life. But Lyney's shows always incorporate new techniques. Some evil tongues comment that it is because, having grown up in absolute poverty, he feels a special weakness for fame and Mora. But his comments cannot stop this young man. The truth is that these criticisms could not be further from the truth. The only reason that drives Lyney to give his best in each show is a personal desire to improve and test his creativity. So, even though the sound of crowd clamor continues to grow, Lyney can't please those who ask him to return to a more traditional style of magic. Perhaps the most loyal followers of magic might think it's a real shame. But that sadness quickly dissipates when they buy a ticket and embark on another of his intrepid magical adventures.
Although Lyney initially decided to devote herself to magic in order to survive, she did not abandon her path once she gained some fame in Fontaine. He owes a lot to this art. Not only did it give him and his sister a chance to survive, but it also earned them Father's recognition. Magic soon became a part of her life. When she goes on stage, Lyney is able to bring an entire audience to its feet, but she has never let herself be carried away by the euphoria of her spectators. On the contrary, this passion has caused her some doubts. What is it that makes the audience give you a standing ovation when you are on stage? Or to put it another way, if it's the petals and cards that really draw spectators, won't they eventually leave in search of a more pompous spectacle? Could it be that a magician's tricks are only fascinating the first time you see them? From that moment on, the public could notice a fundamental change in the young magician's shows. From that day on, Lyney incorporated new opportunities for interaction with the public into his shows.
It wasn't to show off, but to share with the audience all kinds of stories from his daily life. He was even willing to answer the most difficult questions from the audience. Later, his spectators realized that everything the magician said was not necessarily true and that the purpose behind it all was to heat up the atmosphere so that everyone could enjoy a better experience. But nobody was bothered by these little white lies. On the contrary, everyone understood that in these shows full of tricks and deceptions, the young magician himself had decided to become part of the performance. Lyney always keeps just the right distance between himself and his audience, creating the perfect balance between personal relationships and the mystery of magic. It is precisely that mischievous smile that curls the corners of his lips that encourages the audience to give free rein to their imagination. No matter the social class or type of spectator, Lyney always transmits her magic to each of her viewers in the most equitable way possible. Word soon spread about the magician's curious techniques to enhance the atmosphere of his shows. Some even commented that his wit was as magical as his own tricks. “Really? I just want my viewers to be able to completely distance themselves from reality and let their minds float away for a few moments.”
Lyney's new home is located at the Hotel Bouffes d'Été, nestled in a small corner of the Court of Fontaine. This place has taken in a number of young orphans who, like Lyney and Lynette, have been through more hardships than anyone should ever have to know. They support each other like a family, and try to cope with the devastating after-effects of the traumatic events they experienced in their childhood. But it was not always like this. Even though Lyney and Lynette had the recommendation of the hotel manager, it was not easy for them to integrate into their new home. Nor was it easy for the rest of the young people to accept the arrival of these “strangers”. In that already tense atmosphere, Lynette broke the water pumping system in front of the watchful eyes of all the other children. This only increased the already prevailing feeling of distrust. Lyney had no choice but to step forward, take the blame for what had happened and promise everyone that she would personally fix the mechanism so that it would not affect the lives of her new siblings. It's not that Lyney had any talent when it came to repairs, but her sister was so prone to accidentally destroying all sorts of machines and mechanisms that she already had some experience in the matter.
Unfortunately, Lyney had underestimated the complexity of the system. Although he managed to repair the mechanism, he had no way of knowing whether he had actually solved the problem. It was then that a withdrawn young man decided to help. He not only assessed and repaired the mechanism, but even apologized to them. Apparently, he was in charge of maintaining all the mechanisms of the Hotel Bouffes d'Été, so the young man was convinced that the pumping system had broken because of him, as he had not been able to notice in time the deterioration of the components. Lyney was impressed by the taciturn young man's skills and asked him to share his knowledge with him so that he could fix any minor damage caused by his sister. The quiet young man, not used to refusing anything, ended up accepting. Thus, learning from each other, the two boys ended up becoming friends. Lyney, on the other hand, never skimped on the amount of time she devoted to caring for the other children, not just Fréminet. She never forced them to tell her their stories, she simply kept them company in silence. It was a technique she had learned from her sister's pithy advice on one occasion: “No one needs selfish or egotistical care.” After a while, the orphans at the hotel gradually began to open up to Lyney. Some even ended up telling him about their experiences, which allowed the young man to understand them and be able to help them better.
Fréminet did not quite understand this behaviour. He was aware that everything about the hotel had begun to revolve around this newcomer and he did not hesitate to express his opinion that there was no need for Lyney to make such an effort. He explained that at first he had been willing to help with the small household matters because he knew his sister would end up causing more problems when it came to the mechanisms and he did not feel comfortable causing problems for others. But this excuse did not fool Fréminet, who merely stared at him. In the end, Lyney finally confessed. “Lynette has always been my only family. I learned from her how a good brother should behave.”
The day the Hotel Bouffes d'Été opened its doors, all the kids helped decorate the building. The children thought that the hotel looked cold and that it did not fit in with their current lives and that it would not be able to transmit any warmth. So Lyney got everyone in attendance to get to work. Lynette bought a huge amount of decorations and the rest of the kids hung them all over the hotel's ledges. They even wrote their own blessings and placed them among the decorations. Fréminet, for his part, was in charge of ensuring that all the magical artifacts worked properly. Lyney had complete confidence in his abilities, so it was clear that the instruments for such an important day had to be entrusted to Fréminet. But the busiest of the day was undoubtedly Lyney. Not only did he take on the responsibility of coordinating the entire team, but he also had to come up with a magic trick that would be up to the task. Thanks to everyone's efforts, the evening went exactly as planned. The big gramophone played cheerful tunes in the hall, where children jumped, danced and enjoyed the delicious food. It was not anyone's birthday that day, and yet everyone felt as if it were the day they had finally been reborn into their new lives. And to close the beautiful evening, Lyney, Lynette and Fréminet had prepared an incredible magic trick. In the centre of the room lay a trunk and all the children looked at it in complete silence. To ensure that everyone enjoyed the surprise, Lyney had not shared the details of the trick even with Lynette and Fréminet. The lights dimmed and everyone focused on Lyney's figure standing next to the trunk. Such was the anticipation, everyone felt a little nervous. “It may seem exaggerated, but the gift I am going to give you,
Boom, boom! The confetti tubes exploded and the trunk, which was initially empty, burst open on its own. Everyone was shocked, but no one moved. They just stood there in silence. It was not a gift. Before them stood the hotel manager and director, the one everyone called Father. Father's figure was as imposing as ever. She was not a frequent visitor to the hotel, but when she did appear, everyone behaved in an orderly and harmonious manner. Maybe Lyney had finally lost her mind and that was why she had decided to invite Father with such a pompous presentation. However, seeing the stupefied expressions on all the children's faces, Father did not shout at him or reproach him for what he had done. On the contrary, he knew that he had faithfully kept the secret of his magic trick and praised him for it. That night, Father had dinner with the children. She even cut a slice of cake for each of them and tried a few bites herself. Maybe that was Lyney's magic trick, getting Father to abandon his tough side and enjoy the love of his family for one night.
Magic tricks and lies are the perfect combination. They merge, layer by layer, to build a tall tower without a ladder. Lyney has been living at the top of her tower of cards and deception for a long time, appreciating the smell of the wind and watching people walk at her feet in one direction or another. After all this time... there is no turning back. Whether it's because of his shows or his responsibilities at the hotel, the young magician is used to using lies to accomplish his missions. While it is true that she sometimes uses lies to her own advantage, most of the time Lyney uses lies to avoid others getting into trouble. He is perfectly aware that once trust is lost, the balance will tip irremediably to one side. That once the deception is revealed, no matter how just the aim was, it will be misinterpreted as an act of evil. That's why he has chosen not to share unnecessary information with his colleagues. This not only ensures that cooperation is easier, but that everyone ends up with the result they wanted. But not even the wind is able to eliminate the traces that these deceptions leave behind over time, so the young magician must always act with caution and keep a safe distance from the object of his fantasy. And so the tower continues to grow, until the top can no longer be seen, until the smiling faces of those around it become blurred. The path of lies is long and winding, so Lyney cannot afford to let her guard down for even a moment. Everyone knows that what they see on stage is the romantic and enigmatic face of the talented great magician Fontaine and that they will probably never see his true self.
Lyney is not like the others, he cannot allow himself to vent or share his feelings. Because if the time comes when he is no longer able to bear it, he will have to pay a high price and watch as his tall tower collapses before his eyes. After playing so many roles, the young man himself feels confused about his true identity. When he closes his eyes, he sees himself at the top of his tower, an outline so small that he is almost unrecognizable. A cloud of betrayal and deceit swirls at the foot of the tower, preventing him from escaping. But there will always be a hand ready to hold him if one day he falls into the void, a gentle hand that transmits to him the warmth of yesteryear. That current of kindness is what gives him enough strength to continue forward. “Thank you, Lynette...” Lyney always wakes up from her sleep with a murmur on her lips.
Although the Hotel Bouffes d'Été works for a good cause in Fontaine, its methods can be somewhat radical. Mother is the only one capable of using her influence and control over the Fontaine Court to prevent any major incidents from occurring. For a time, Lyney financed one of the Judicial Office's officials to not only provide confidential information to the hotel, but also to cover up some details of certain clandestine operations carried out by its members. Although the risk to the official was considerable, he was convinced that what Fontaine needed was precisely more people like Father, capable of overriding some of the nation's regulations in order to be able to act at the root of the problems. Lyney once joked with him, saying, “Don’t worry. If you ever get into trouble in the future, I’ll do my best to help you. And if you ever get into danger, I’ll come and save you… Well, don’t get carried away by that, okay? Better stay alert.” The officer knew that this was Lyney's way of expressing his concern. Unfortunately, as if his words were prophetic, not long after that conversation, the Judicial Office discovered everything that officer had done, and he was arrested. In his last moments of freedom, the officer managed to use an emergency communication system and send a message to Lyney. When the Guard arrived to arrest him, they discovered the communication device and mocked him. “The message you sent only alerts your colleagues to save their own skins. No one would be foolish enough to come and rescue you.” The official replied simply and plainly that this was more than enough for him. Even knowing the end that awaited him, he was convinced that this cooperation had been the right decision.
Just as the guards were about to handcuff him, some previously installed devices began to emit a large amount of smoke. Amidst the thick smoke, the officer also saw a bright flame... Moments later, the official jumped into the Ceniciento River, where he was rescued by Fréminet. It is rumoured that the guards spent a great deal of time following the trail of the glowing flash, thinking that the criminal had fled using some kind of glider to fly away. Later, they discovered a paraglider hanging from a tree, with a dressed-up wooden dummy hanging from it. The truth is that Lyney had used that device to divert the guards' attention and give the officer enough time to escape from that ambush. The official himself admitted that he had no hope of using the communication device. After all, magicians are treacherous and one never knows when they are telling the truth, but he had decided to bet the little he had left on that card anyway. “Haha, that’s true. Trusting others is always a risky bet.” “But don't worry, magicians always have an ace up their sleeve and would never disappoint their audience.”
There is a very special creature among the cats that Lyney and Lynette have adopted called Rosalinde. Each of the cats has its own territory, but Rosalinde has a special fondness for Lyney's hat. A magician's hat is a very important piece of equipment, so before he can use it for each performance, Lyney must make sure to get Rosalinde out of it. A task that is not always easy for him. The cat's pitiful mewing is especially heartbreaking for the two brothers, who understand exactly what it feels like to have your home taken away from you. So Lyney and Lynette decided to find a replacement that the kitten could use. However, no matter how nice the new home they offered her was, Rosalinde refused them all. In fact, she would only give them one look before turning around and walking away. Finally, Lyney decided to custom make a hat exactly like her own. And the cat eventually marked it as her own, but she did not give up on her quest to have the original hat as well. She was so fond of both homes that she would glare at anyone who tried to take either one away from her. After all, the stubborn cat's demands weren't so crazy. So Lyney decided that the only possible solution was to incorporate her into her shows. Lyney and Lynette built a puppet out of the pillow Rosalinde normally used to sleep on inside the hat, so that when she took refuge in it during the show, the puppet would behave like a mischievous and adorable cat. And, just as they had imagined, Rosalinde was delighted with her improved home. She was confident in her new role and performed wonderfully. Perhaps the spotlights were a source of encouragement, for she had never been more willing to accept the fact that she had to spend some time away from home when they were not performing.
During one of the performances, Lyney made a terrible mistake and forgot the card he was supposed to use during his backstage trick. Under the watchful eyes of the audience, Lyney had only a few moments to think of a solution. And just then, she noticed that her hat was heavier than it should have been. Apparently Rosalind, who shouldn't have been in there, had sneaked into the hat again. As usual, the cat activated the puppet with her movements, only this time, the puppet carried with it exactly the card that Lyney needed, to the surprise of the entire audience and the magician himself, who could finally breathe easy. Later, both brothers analyzed the cat's behavior, but they could not reach any other conclusion than that, after spending so much time practicing magic with them, Rosalinde
vision
After gaining the favor of the gods, Lynette's missions became considerably more arduous and dangerous. Only those with a Vision were able to carry out the most difficult assignments while maintaining the secrecy surrounding such operations. As a result, both brothers began to undertake solo missions more frequently. Lyney never fully accepted this change, not only because they had been very close since they came into the world, but also because the cause of this inevitable distancing caused her great sorrow. What Lyney wanted most was to return to her sister and give her the support she needed. This troubled desire to obtain more power made him believe that he was no longer worthy of the protection of the gods. But, despite everything, he could not help but continue to wish with all his might to return to his sister's side. So Lyney decided to find Father and expressed her need to possess a Deception that would allow her to act alongside her sister again. Mother remained silent for so long that it seemed like an eternity to the young man. Finally, the weight of two crosses pinned the young man to the ground and an angry, furious look that Father had not accustomed the orphans of the hotel to seemed to pierce his soul. “Tell me, do you think that's what Lynette wants?” That simple and brief answer pierced his heart, causing the dull echo of his sister's words to resonate incessantly in his head. “Nobody needs selfish or egotistical care.” Lyney didn't need to ask her sister about it to know that she would be against such a proposal. It was then that she finally realized how absurd her proposal had been.
vision
Lyney then locked himself in his room in an attempt to understand what Father meant by those words. Long ago, when he and Lynette had wandered the streets hungry, Lyney had turned to magic, so he wondered if that might not be the answer this time as well. Lyney then went in search of the reports of the missions Lynette had carried out so far and analyzed the information and all of her sister's movements in detail. Was it really necessary to cross this dangerous valley to get closer to the objective? Was it really necessary to dive headlong into turbulent waters in order to leave the scene? No. Simply, the brightness of the Vision prevented him from seeing his sister's shadow. And so, Lyney began to draw up elaborate plans for her sister's missions, drawing on the qualities she knew best about her, making full use of the best escape routes and the most suitable tools at her disposal, choosing the best rendezvous points. That's how trust between the siblings re-emerged. That look of fear disappeared from her sister's eyes and they both hugged each other happily again whenever they met at a meeting point. The favor of the gods was no excuse for not properly protecting his family. But as the saying goes, men propose and gods dispose. After completing a considerable number of missions, the children of the hotel found themselves cornered by a betrayal and Lynette's operations were exposed as a result. The boys found themselves trapped on a high cliff, just as they had been the day Lynette had gotten her Sight. The difference was that this time the responsibility fell on Lyney's shoulders. The young wizard opened the emergency paraglider, grabbed his sister tightly and launched himself into the abyss. His pursuers continued to shoot as they both fell.
vision
Lyney spun and swung in the air, trying to avoid the gunfire, but the bullets hit the paraglider, opening several holes in the fabric. Finally, it was unable to support the weight of the brothers and they both fell into the void. Still, Lyney continued to strive to stay on course, to stop the fall. No matter how vehemently the gods tried to thwart his plans to protect his family, he was prepared to face them until his dying breath. Their enemies laughed, knowing that the children would not be able to survive a fall at such speed. Then a flame lit up the sky, launching the paraglider into a nearby fast-flowing river. The fire pushed them to one side and the wind protected them from any harm. There, under the dark cloak of night, two sources of light intertwined to finally dissipate under the reflection of the moon, as if it were the applause that finally falls silent after the curtain falls at the end of a show. Lyney did not ask what the gleaming Vision in her hand meant. After all, the answer was of no importance now.
