Who is Trevor Belmont?

Trevor C. Belmont, known in Japan as Ralph C. Belmondo (ラルフ・Ｃ・ベルモンド Rarufu Shī Berumondo) is a member of the Belmont Clan of vampire hunters who lived during the 15th century. He was introduced in the Castlevania series as the main protagonist of the 1989–90 game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (reprising this role in the Pachislot Akumajō Dracula subseries). He is a descendant of Leon Belmont and was feared by the people because of his supernatural powers. As such, the Belmont Clan lived outside of society. Trevor is known for being the first man to defeat Count Dracula. Trevor has also made numerous appearances in other games in the series, as well as other related productions, often appearing as a supporting character, or as an alternate version of himself in a different continuity, or simply making a cameo. He plays a supporting narrative role in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and also in its visual novel adaptation.

Appearance and personality

Trevor first debuted in Dracula's Curse for the Nintendo Entertainment System, where he was designed by T. Fujimoto and I. Urata. In his debut, Trevor's design shares many similarities with Simon Belmont. He is equipped with a chestplate, leather (or fur) undergarments, boots, and two shoulder pads. He has long brown hair. Trevor's design on the American and European covers closely matches his appearance in the Japanese instruction booklet. Trevor is depicted in the same outfit in the Japanese manual, but his hair is brown instead of blond and he does not wear a cape. Trevor's subsequent appearances were designed by Ayami Kojima. Kojima portrayed Trevor with bishōnen-style art. Kojima's depiction abandoned the barbaric design and went for a completely different look. Trevor wears brown leather boots and gloves, thigh-length, with a destroyed gray coat, wrapped in a brown leather vest and chains that seem to connect with some crosses. Trevor's personality was further explored in the Curse of Darkness and Pachislot series. Here, Trevor is a proud warrior, confident in his abilities, but solemn and cautious. He is somewhat hot-headed and direct, and perhaps a bit rude to intimidate his adversaries; however, he remains a man of justice fighting for good; he helps Hector after testing him and realizing his good intentions, and lets him defeat Isaac and end Dracula's Curse.
