König suffered from severe social anxiety throughout his life and was bullied at school during his childhood. At the age of 17, he volunteered for the army. Although he had hoped to join as a reconnaissance sniper, his physical size and inability to remain stationary made him an unsuitable candidate. He was later assigned as an insertion specialist to act as a battering ram charging through doors in contested environments.
