Speed of Sound Sonic (音速のソニック, Onsoku no Sonikku), commonly known as Sonic (ソニック, Sonikku), is a recurring villain and occasional anti-hero in the series, first appearing as a bodyguard hired by Zeniru. He is a former member of the Ninja Village's 44th graduating class, nicknamed "The End" (終わり, Owari). Sonic is also Saitama's self-proclaimed eternal rival.

Appearance

Sonic is a young man who, despite his slender build, is very strong and fast. He has an androgynous face, messy black hair tied in a bun, and large, elongated blue-grey eyes. One notable feature is that he has two purple markings under his eyes. He also has several scars on his chest and arms. In his first appearance, he wore a tight-fitting black suit highlighted by metal plates on his shins, forearms, shoulders, and chest, as well as a long purple scarf. He is later shown wearing black street clothes. He always carries ninja gear, such as a Ninjato sword and throwing weapons such as kunai and shurikens.

Personality

Despite his normally calm appearance, Sonic loves fighting strong opponents, as shown when he has a "boyish smile" on his face when he first meets Saitama and has two of his attacks blocked, before calling this a "bad habit". He appears to be very quick to act as he attacks Saitama upon their first encounter without allowing him to explain the situation. He is persistent, even when he realizes that the opponent is much stronger than him. When Sonic recognizes an opponent as his match, he does whatever he can to initiate battle, such as causing massive property damage and endangering the surrounding citizens in order to get Saitama to fight him. He also seems to have no qualms about killing as shown when he kills Hammerhead's gang and even goes so far as to take pride in the fact that he never lets a single person live, though it is unknown if he has killed innocent lives or if he has no problem with killing civilians. He appears to be rather disdainful of heroes. When he first meets Genos, he tells him that heroes cannot beat a truly strong opponent nor can they truly protect anything. Despite the way he presents himself, he seems to have a soft side. This side is seen when he is training to fight Saitama. During this period, he spent a great deal of time with Frank, a hunter who had nearly been killed by a bear and confides his inner turmoil to him. While training, he finds and befriends a small piglet as well, naming it Ino, thus showing his nobler side. When he leaves to find Saitama, he gives his words of wisdom to Frank, saying that if he gets too confident in his fighting style and loses, the outcome will always be the same.

It is unclear how far this side of him goes, as he was willing to warn Genos about the Deep Sea King, but fought him off when Genos interfered in his battle with Saitama. Due to constantly losing to Saitama, Sonic is shown willing to do anything, even changing his own humanity in order to defeat him by becoming a monster by consuming a Monster Cell provided by Gale Wind and Hellfire Flame, though he feels that becoming a monster is equal to dying, as he will no longer be human. At the same time, he is also shown to have some class as he properly cooks the Monster Cell before consuming it, as he cannot stomach raw food. During his time in the ninja village, Sonic was an idealist who wanted to train to become the strongest ninja in the village so he could overthrow their leader, destroy the place and take the rest of the young ninja under his wing so they could be raised in an environment where they could be free and happy, being able to express their emotions as human beings and not as cold-blooded killers. He saw in Flashy Flash a companion, someone who shared his vision of the world and with whom he shared his entire plan and even showed him a place where he planned to relocate them all.

History

Togen Band Arc: Sonic first appears as a bodyguard for a character named Mr. Zeniru, defending him from a group calling themselves the Paradise Group. Sonic appears before the group and their leader, Hammerhead, as they approach the Monier Building. After appearing before them and stating that he has never let a single person live, he quickly dispatches the entire group except for the leader who is able to block Sonic's attack in time. After avoiding him, and subsequently mocking Hammerhead's attacks, Sonic hits him in the back of the head with a kunai. Assuming that Hammerhead has been defeated, he calls out to report his success, but when he returns he sees that Hammerhead is gone. Shortly after, he meets Saitama, whom he tries to attack, thinking that he is another member of the terrorists, first with a kunai that Saitama catches without difficulty and then his sword, which is also stopped and subsequently destroyed by Saitama. Saitama tries to explain that he is not part of the Paradise Group and is actually a hero who has saved the world several times; but Sonic no longer cares about that and tells him that his pride will not allow him to leave a person capable of stopping his attacks alive, then loudly tells him about the fact that he actually only wants to fight him because he is very strong. In the fight, Sonic shows off his speed, circling Saitama so fast that a normal human could not follow him with their eyes, only to abruptly end it when the ninja's crotch makes contact with Saitama's fist. Sonic suddenly ceases the attack stating that he has found a strong opponent strong enough to continue training with, claiming that the next time they meet will be the last and that he will kill Saitama. All this while feeling an indescribable pain in his crotch.

National Registry of Heroes Arch: Saitama is running around the city, worried about losing his license if he doesn't perform a heroic act before the day is over. Sonic shows up to challenge him, but Saitama cuts him off, telling him to save it for another time and starts to walk away. This infuriates Sonic, who draws his sword and launches an attack at Saitama's head. Saitama reacts by biting off the sword so fast that even Sonic doesn't know what happened. Saitama then threatens to beat him up if he doesn't stop bothering him, causing Sonic to flinch at his menacing aura. At that moment they are interrupted by Tanktop Tiger (a hero who is among the top 10 of the C-Class Hero Rankings) who comes to investigate a suspicious person who had been running around the city (Saitama) and begins to threaten Saitama, until Sonic throws several explosive shuriken at him, knocking him out. Seeing that Saitama is a hero, Sonic declares that he will create a situation that will force Saitama to fight him. He jumps back and throws more explosive shuriken at Saitama, which deflect at the last moment and begin impacting all over the surroundings causing a lot of chaos. Sonic continues to do this until Saitama appears behind him and delivers a karate chop to the back of his head, which throws him to the ground with such force that it leaves him embedded in the pavement.

Garou's Introduction Arc: While Garou defeats all the criminals and villains who were gathered in the Hero Association building, the ninja decided to pay Saitama a surprise visit for a rematch. Fubuki Group Arc: When he arrives at the building where the hero lives, he meets Genos and the latter immediately classifies him as hostile and therefore both face each other in a fight where at high speeds both dodge his hard attacks in an exchange of blows. Saitama later intervenes and defeats Sonic with a new improvised attack and he falls to the ground exhausted and wondering how he could defeat him at such speed. Monster Association Arc: In a reunion with his former companions Gale Wind and Hellfire Flame, they minimize his abilities through challenging demonstrations and give him Monster Cells, which would improve his speed capacity and the degree of strength by double or triple the current one to fight alongside them against the Hero Association; in response, out of revenge against Saitama, he cooks the Monster Cell and ingests it, however the cell loses its quality when cooked and no changes occur beyond severe diarrhea. In other media: Omakes: Prison: As Sonic has become a villain, he is quickly taken to jail, but manages to break out several times, often in the blink of an eye, until the guards are forced to put him in restraints and send him to jail. maximum security. There, he effortlessly defeats prisoners who dare to challenge him, even ending up with one screaming in pain, which in turn causes the "boss", Prisoner Cute-Cute, to scream at the other prisoners in irritation. After hearing a description of the Prisoner, Sonic bursts in upon the Deep Sea King's rampage, and, recognizing his strength, they follow him out of the prison.

Skills and Powers

As a ninja, Sonic is adept at concealing his presence. He has shown skill with multiple weapons. Fubuki commented that Sonic's fighting ability is that of an S-Class individual. Gale Wind also mentioned that Sonic and Flashy Flash are the only survivors of the 44th graduating class, "The End", of their village. However, he is quite helpless against Dragon-level monsters, as seen in his fights with Gale Wind, Hellfire Flame, and Energiser. Physical Abilities: Immense Speed and Reflexes: Sonic's main power lies in his immense speed. Sonic was able to easily dodge rocks thrown by Hammerhead and dodge attacks from the Deep Sea King. Sonic is faster than S-Class heroes Genos and Metal Bat. Enhanced Strength: Despite his slight build, Sonic is stronger than the average human. He was able to dislocate Base B's shoulder and incapacitate Mile's Special Moves with no apparent effort. Enhanced Durability: Sonic's durability is greater than that of the average human. He withstood Base B's attack and dislocated the prisoner's shoulder at the same time. Fighting Style: Ninjutsu Master: Sonic is a master of ninjutsu and has knowledge of several deadly techniques.

Known Techniques: "Full Frontal Attack" (正面からまっすぐに狩る, Shōmen kara massugu ni karu): Sonic takes a low stance and rushes forward at speeds that make him impossible to see. The effect of this attack is unknown because it was interrupted by Hammerhead. "Wind Blade Kick" (風刃脚, Fūjinkyaku): Sonic dashes forward several times extremely quickly and uses his momentum to deliver a kick at his opponent. "Hail of Carnage" (殺戮乱陣, Satsuriku Ran-jin): Sonic launches a shower of explosive shuriken, causing destruction to his surroundings. "Four Shadows Burial" (四影葬, Shiei-sō): Sonic creates four afterimages using a special movement technique. "Dispersed Flash Slash" (散閃斬, Sansenzan): Used in conjunction with Four Shadow Burial, Sonic attacks his opponent with his four afterimages. This was used against Genos. However, the effectiveness of the attack is unknown, as Saitama saved Genos before Sonic could hit him. "Ten Shadows Burial" (十影葬, Jūei-sō): Sonic creates ten afterimages. By using this technique, Sonic reaches massively hypersonic speeds. "Serious Side Jump" (マジ反復横とび, Maji Hanpukuyokotobi): Sonic can perform an inferior imitation of Saitama's Serious Side Jump. Sonic jumps from side to side rapidly. Doing so creates a multitude of wall-like afterimages. Sonic then attacks his opponent, however the resulting shockwave was not strong enough to take down any member of the Celestial Ninja Group and left Sonic exhausted.

Equipment

Weapon handling: Sonic has a large arsenal of weapons that make him more lethal against his enemies. Among them are: Swords: He always carries swords into his battles, with which he usually easily finishes off his enemies, although Saitama is always able to destroy them effortlessly. Kunai: He uses his deadly kunai to quickly finish off his enemies without them noticing. "Explosive Shuriken" (爆裂手裏剣, Bakuretsu Shuriken): These are his most lethal weapons, capable of causing a great catastrophe if used at the same time, such as destroying multiple buildings/structures or launching vehicles into the air. Although he didn't get a single scratch on Genos during the fight in the Hero Hunt Arc, the young cyborg told him that even hundreds of those at once wouldn't hurt him.
