History

Once they got to the headquarters, (a huge castle or something like that, where the orphans were brought, the boy would begin physical training. This was the first stage of preparation, after which came one of the most difficult ones - the test of herbs. It was the herbal test that determined whether you would become a witcher, as out of 10 boys, only three usually survived. The boys were fed special elixirs based on the proteins of gray scolopendromorphs, which made serious changes to their physiology. Metabolism accelerated, hormonal and nervous systems changed. These changes were accompanied by terrible pain, but in order to reduce it, the tests were carried out under constant medical supervision. The boys fell into a comatose state and came to their senses only if the body was able to completely rebuild itself. Although on average 3-4 children from 8 to 10 years old survived the herbal test, some of them endured the tests quite easily. The elders selected such children with additional mutations. They were subjected to additional experiments, which further increased their physical strength and improved other parameters. One of those who underwent additional tests was Geralt - it was thanks to them that the witcher's hair lost its pigment and became gray forever. After the herbal test, after some time, the elders put the surviving boys through the next test - the sleep test. They were fed some psychedelics and, with the help of magic, were put into a state of hallucinogenic sleep. In their sleep, the boys saw various visions and dreams, and during this time their bodies were rebuilt. Selective mutation of the eyes was carried out, the pupils became orange and vertical, like those of cats. Mutation of the bone marrow and hormones occurred, which, together with the mutation of the pupils, allowed the witchers to see perfectly in the dark and improved their sensory abilities. It was also this test that made the witchers sterile. Having awakened after the sleep test, a person woke up no longer a person, but a witcher.
