Description

Dr. Zyn Kiryu is an SCP Foundation researcher stationed at Kiryu Labs at Site-19 alongside her brother Mark Ziryu, Researcher Riven Mercer, and Agent Tai Yang Shen. Kiryu inherited Dr. Benjamin Kondraki's relationship with anomalous butterflies after his disappearance, including SCP-408. Since then, he has decided to become more independent and does not interact much with others. His main duties at the Foundation include conducting experiments with Safe-class SCPs or collecting documentation (and, whenever he can, maintaining SCP-408's containment unit). Zyn logs hundreds of hours of administrative work each year, due to his meticulous attention to detail and almost obsessive organizational skills. Note from Mark Kiryu and history: Mark joined the Foundation after being selected as SCP-1457's primary caretaker. He has worked with 1457 for half of his Foundation career and is responsible for nearly all Foundation records relating to him. Mark's current role: Head of research for several projects involving SCP sentient entities. Maintains Kiryu Labs. Serves as emergency contact for employee grief counseling. Enjoys wearing elaborate costumes for Halloween and other occasions.

Biography part 1

After Zyn Kiryu was recruited as a Level 2 researcher by the SCP Foundation, she was assigned to Site-19. During an orientation tour, she noticed SCP-408 and hoped to become a caretaker of the butterflies later on. After a week, Kiryu moved to Site-19 and applied to become 408's caretaker. She was rejected later that day due to lack of experience, which discouraged her. The next day, Kiryu found a copy of Sun Tzu's The Art of War while trying to find some lost socks, and learned that he must gain as many allies as he could in such a meritocratic environment as Site-19. After two weeks, Kiryu accidentally spilled a biological sample due to a broken glass. Seeing how apathetic his lab mates were about Kiryu's mistake reminded him that he needed allies. As such, he wrote a note to the new Level 1 interns.

Biography part 2

During lunch the next day, she met another doctor and chatted with him. From then on, Kiryu jotted down as much information as she could about her coworkers to break the air of oblivion at Site-19. After being transferred to a new lab, Kiryu was assigned to the abandoned lab archives to retrieve documents and possibly clean them up. She eventually cleaned up the archives over the course of a week and was transferred to cold storage by bewildered, but impressed, lab technicians to do the same. While Kiryu was in the cold storage vaults, he met researcher Riven Mercer, who informed him that her superiors liked his organizational skills. She soon became known to her new lab interns as "the Freezer Fairy" and had to kill a magenta scorpion after it broke loose and attacked an intern. After being scolded by her superiors for destroying the specimen and having her interns taken away, Kiryu designed new equipment to counteract the arthropods' venoms. This earned her enough respect to be reassigned as Dr. Everett Mann's lab assistant for the next six months, and her first lab assignment was dissecting the brain of a dead reality bender.

Biography part 3

Eventually, Mann assigned him a personal project and provided him with everything he needed to create it. Kiryu gained valuable knowledge from his former interns and superiors, and eventually created a prototype of SCP-2332, which achieved its goal of interacting with butterflies. Yesterday: Following a global containment breach in 2020, Zyn Kiryu was attacked by Dr. Alto Clef on the orders of O5-12 Troy Lament to satisfy Bloom's activation procedures. Clef sabotaged Kiryu's butterfly control mechanisms, causing them to break free and kill her.

the combustion laboratory

Kiryu Labs is a set of experimental rooms based at Site 19 designed to process low-priority anomalous elements of variable properties. Personnel associated with Kiryu Labs must have substantial laboratory training and competence in experimental design and documentation. Personnel of all specialties are welcome. The Foundation designates caches of anomalous objects for Kiryu Labs to examine on a weekly basis. Occasionally, personnel may be assigned to leave the site to investigate an anomalous object and report on additional containment measures. During these assignments, necessary transportation and provisions will be provided; other specific travel-related resources may be requested. Variation

Everyone calls her: The Freezer Fairy. SCP-408 is coexisting with Dr. Zyn as if she had a bunch of butterflies surrounding her. Experimental Room 205, affectionately known as "the combustion lab" just for being a good researcher with the anomalies they learn from botany.

Location of the combustion laboratory

The color scheme of Experimental Room 217 is a cool, clinical white, and the brushed steel supply cabinets glow a dull silver under the fluorescent lighting. Temperature controls and other such machinery panels hum imperceptibly near the three doors. Security cameras are mounted along each wall, eight in total. In the center of the rectangular room is what looks like a small well; it’s three feet deep and wide enough for several people to walk through fairly comfortably. On each of the four walls are neat racks of fireproof clothing, fire blankets, and fire extinguishers. Supply cabinets and wheeled tables are spread evenly throughout the relatively large space; the few machines in the room are hidden behind fireproof barriers. Experimental Room 208 looks more suited to a dojo or old-style martial arts school than a research facility. Wood paneling covers the walls, rectangular sections of the floor are padded, and tables throughout the room are littered with tools used in antiquities maintenance. These and other rooms are where some of the Foundation's cache of anomalous objects (not interesting enough to merit special containment, nor harmless enough to be stored in a broom closet) are processed.
