Elder Kai (Z)

Introduction

Old Kai (老ろう界かい王おう神しん, Rō Kaiōshin, lit. "Old God of Kings of Worlds") is a Potara fusion between the Old Witch and the Supreme Kai of the fifteenth generation, though he is usually just referred to as Elder Kai, or Great Kaioshin (大だい界かい王おう神しん様さま, Dai Kaiōshin-sama, lit. "Great God of Kings of Worlds") in the Japanese version. A lecherous but wise and mostly upstanding deity, he serves as an advisor to the current Supreme Kai and acts as an important supporting character throughout most of the series.

Core Person

The Core People (芯人, Shin-jin) are a race of beings from World Core. The Core People are the true race all Kai and Supreme Kai come from before being given their respective role. They usually have a humanoid appearance with hair, pointed ears and distinctive attires. Their planet holds roughly a population of 80 Core people at one time. In Dragon Ball Fusions, they are considered part of the Offworlder race.

Kai

The Kais originally come from a planet called World Core, which is basically a larger version of the planets that the four Kais call home (such as King Kai's Planet). On the planet, there are gigantic trees, the Kaiju, and the Kais are all born as Core People from the fruit of those trees. Core Person average life expectancy is said to be 75,000 years. They live leisurely lives, studying various things at a school-like castle, until one of the Kais passes away. Then, they will draw lots among themselves to choose who will take the dead Kai's place and become the new Kai.[1] However North Kai apparently retains his position despite his death during the Cell Games. This may be due to the fact that he didn't die of natural causes.

Kings of the Universe

There are five Kais in Universe 7. Four of them are given the job of controlling a particular area of the universe, and overseeing the local deities (Guardians) on each planet of their quadrant. They are called the North Kai (this position is held by King Kai in the local Earth galaxy), the West Kai, the South Kai, and the East Kai. The fifth one is a Grand Kai who oversees them all. Above the Kais there are Supreme Kais who rule over the entire universe, with a Grand Supreme Kai overseeing them. While the lower Kais watch over the living world, the Supreme Kais watch over both the Other World and the living world. The Kais live in the Other World; they are among the few living residents in Other World. They are considered immortal, in the sense that they refer to residents of the living world as "mortals," but can still die of unnatural causes (as King Kai does, when he is inadvertently killed by the self-destructing Cell), however since they are already in Other World it doesn't really affect them in the long run (however, King Kai did receive tons of laughter and bullying from his fellow Kais for being dead). The Kais are also known to have a love for fancy cars and each Kai owns one.

Supreme Kai

The Supreme Kais (界かい王おう神しん, Kaiōshin, lit. "God of Kings of Worlds", "Deity of Kings of Worlds", or "Divine being of Kings of Worlds"), also known as the Creation Gods (創造神, Sōzōshin),[1] are the Core People who are naturally born divine and who have the ultimate duty to protect the universe of their position.

Ki

Ki

Ki is also known as "latent energy" or "fighting power," which directly translates as "life force." This force is a tangible energy inside every living being, with its major focus being in the center of the body. By drawing it out, an individual is able to manipulate it and use it outside the body. Ki can be used for many different techniques. Because there are physical limits to the strength of the body itself, it is necessary to increase one's ki to overcome this barrier and become stronger.[2] Usually, the more concentrated the masses are, the more time the user requires to draw it out by powering up. When fighters gather ki, they are able to gain enhanced strength, speed, endurance, and can increase the power of their attacks to inflict greater damage to opponents. Normally, the more the ki is increased, the harder it is to control, so ki control is also important.[2] Energy can be lost when the user sustains injuries, as exclaimed by Gohan when he loses over half of his maximum energy supply when hit by Cell's Time to Die. Maintaining proper balance between the body and spirit is important in utilizing energy, and the more properly balanced they are, the more energy you can project. Auras of ki radiate from the user when increasing the concentration of it inside their body. Warriors (excluding Androids) have a limit to the ki that their bodies can withstand, but the capacity for ki can be increased through mental and physical training. Some techniques (such as the Kaio-ken) rapidly increase the concentration of ki in the body, enabling the user to fight at a strength level that far exceeds their regular limits for a limited period of time. Auras can displace solid matter.

Magic

Magic is primarily used for supportive techniques, such as healing, conjuration, transmutation, or sealing. Magic techniques can also replicate several techniques achievable through use of ki, such as flight. The Dragon Balls are themselves magical, created by various Namekians skilled in the magical arts. Some magic can be used offensively to manipulate energy, such as Moro's ability to drain energy from his surroundings and redirect it into attacks. Magic is, however, completely distinct from ki, and so while a magic user may possess low ki power, they could easily possess immense magic abilities - as the two energies are not related to each other. Magic first appeared through the Magic Materialization technique, an ability that allowed the user to summon an object as if from thin air. While not as common as ki attacks or physical blows, several magic techniques would go on to appear throughout the series, including Magic Touch, Sealing Spell, Demon Eye, Kai Kai, and Manipulation Sorcery. Additionally, magic imbued items are shown to exist - such as the Power Pole. Magical techniques can allow even very powerful beings to be sealed away with no means of escape. The Evil Containment Wave invented by Master Mutaito to seal away King Piccolo is a particularly potent such technique, being able to hold even a powerful Kai such as Zamasu, capable of teleportation techniques such as Kai Kai, inside an ordinary stone jar. Majin Buu was able to be sealed harmlessly inside an egg by magic for millions of years despite destroying entire galaxies when released.

Physical Appearance

Old Kai is average height, purple-skinned, with a small tuft of white hair on his head and a toothbrush mustache on his face. His face is very wrinkled, showing his age.

Outfit

a blue coat with red lining, an orange waist cloak, a pale teal long-sleeved shirt with matching pants and red boots. He also wears a pair of green Potara earrings (yellow in the anime).

Background

One day, an Old Witch snuck up on the former Supreme Kai while he was reading a comic book and took one of the Potara earrings that he was wearing, leaving the Supreme Kai with a horrified expression as he knows about the abilities of the Potara Earrings. She put the earring on her ear which caused the two to fuse. This caused them to fuse into an old wrinkly being with a personality befitting of the new form, as well as new magical powers. In the past, Old Kai visited Zeno three times. Once every 1,000 years, the Supreme Kais and the Gods of Destruction go to each other's realms and hold a coordination meeting. During one of these meetings, held roughly 75 Million Before Age, they got into an argument over some trifling thing and a certain short-tempered Beerus sealed Old Kai away inside the Z Sword as it would not have been proper for him to destroy the Sacred World of the Kai itself.[7] According to Old Kai, the person who sealed him inside the sword was very powerful but not as bad as Majin Buu.

Buu Saga [1/2]

Shin and Kibito were looking for warriors they believed would be strong enough to defeat Majin Buu. They eventually ended up with Gohan and had him remove the Z-Sword from its stone encasement. Goku eventually showed up and started to help Gohan train. To test the blade, Shin generated a cube of the strongest metal in the universe, Katchin, and gave it to Goku to throw. When Gohan hit the metal, the Z Sword broke in half, releasing Old Kai. After Old Kai expressed disappointment in Shin and Kibito for not breaking the sword's seal yet Gohan, a mortal, was able to break it, Goku tried to test Old Kai's power level by throwing a basic Ki Blast at him, with little enough power to deflect, and it instead knocked Old Kai down, resulting in Old Kai scolding Goku, although after both Goku and Gohan explained what Goku's intention behind it, he then elaborated that what made him threatening was not his raw strength, but rather his smarts, or more specifically, drawing people's latent abilities out.

Buu Saga [2/2]

Old Kai told them that he could bring out Gohan's latent abilities by doing an "essential ritual". After waiting for well over an entire day, Old Kai had finally unleashed Gohan's hidden potential. After Gohan lost to Super Buu, Old Kai revealed the method of Potara Fusion to Goku and gave him the Potara Earrings to fuse with Gohan, (though Goku would end up fusing with Vegeta, creating Vegito). He then gives up his life to Goku so he can return to Earth to fuse with Gohan and defeat Buu. When they decided to use the Namekian Dragon Balls to restore Earth and revive everyone, Old Kai refused to use them, as he claims that they would disrupt the balance of nature. However, he went along with it when Goku reminded him of his deal regarding his groping/gaining nude pictures of a human woman, with Goku inadvertently admitting in front of Vegeta that the woman in question was Bulma. When Super Buu reverted to Kid Buu, Old Kai went to Namek with Dende and Kibito Kai, where he and the others used the Namekian Dragon Balls to help Goku and Vegeta defeat Kid Buu. Old Kai was brought back to life by the wish made to Porunga to revive everyone who died after the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, and so his halo disappeared after the wish was made.
