He is the second character to assume the role of Robin and the second character to take the alias Red Hood. He first appeared in Batman #357 (March 1983).[2] The character was created to succeed Dick Grayson, the original Robin, as Batman's vigilante sidekick. They initially shared a similar background: he was the son of circus acrobats who were killed by criminals in Gotham City (in Jason's case, by Killer Croc), and was adopted by Bruce Wayne as his son and protégé. Following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths and the reboot of the main DC Comics universe, Jason's origin was changed to that of an orphaned street criminal, whom Batman catches attempting to steal tires from the Batmobile, and whom he attempts to reform by becoming his mentor.
