Oliver was a young child, who worked at a graveyard. They could hear the sounds of dead spirits in the ground, so they decided to dig up dead bodies so they could dance with said spirits. Unbeknownst to them, one of the spirits was secretly planning to possess the poor child. Oliver got possessed, while the majority of their senses started getting cut off; their sense to feel, think, see, breathe, etc., and The Bad Spirit's getting heightened. The evil spirit mentioned that Oliver would not decay. This, perhaps means that they will not die, that they will be conscious during their possession, etc. There are no sources proving this.
