Touji was a tall, muscular man. His hair used to be black and he always wore it unkempt. He had thin eyebrows and a scar on the right side of his mouth [2]. His eyes were small and usually conveyed a tired look [3]. His characteristic clothing was always of the casual and informal type, he generally wore black short-sleeved shirts, loose light-colored pants with a dark belt with black ballet flats. As a member of the Zenin Clan he used to wear traditional Japanese clothing that consisted of a dark kimono and his lighter colored haori [4]. Once he decided to leave the Zenin Clan, he wore normal civilian clothes and often wore black shirts, pants, and shoes [3]. When he was summoned by Grandma Ogami [5] he was wearing a light-colored sweater, black pants, and black shoes.

Toji had a bad habit of betting money on horse races despite never winning. Since he did not always voice his plans, he tended to give the image of a selfless person, however he has proven to be an excellent planner, both outside of combat and in battle itself.[3] In combat, he was a brutal warrior who savagely attacked his enemies with a wide grin on his face.[6] He always felt a deep hatred for the Zenin Clan and the big heads of the jujutsu world. He did not value himself, nor did he value others. When he agreed to kill Riko Amanai[2], he wanted to be able to prove to himself that he could fight against some of the strongest shamans, without the need for cursed energy. His relationship with his son is complicated. Toji named Megumi before knowing if he was a boy or a girl.[7] He has stated that he is bad at remembering names, this even applies to his son's name as at one point he couldn't remember who he was.[2] However, despite the fact that he didn't seem to care much for his son, he gave him a name that means "Hope" and when he was in his last moments of life, his last thoughts were about him and he even told Gojo about him so that he could do something to prevent Megumi from falling into the hands of the Zenin Clan.[8] Even when his body was summoned and he had a fight against Megumi, for a few seconds he brought back the information of his soul when he remembered who the person in front of him was and decided to commit suicide rather than fight his son.
