He is the governor of the land of the forgotten, where dead people who are no longer remembered by anyone alive collapse in a death which is the final death that leads nowhere. In a battle he lost the medal of eternal life and Chakal found it and kept it, but when Xibalba recovered it, Chakal exploded with rage. He and his wife La Catrina made a bet, if Joaquin marries Maria Xibalba he will change worlds with his wife, only that he sometimes cheats in bets. Being beings that surpass humanity, they obviously do not let themselves be seen and they have camouflage to go unnoticed as if they were also human.

La Catrina is a being made of sweet candy, she thinks that in all human hearts there is purity and hope, the opposite of what her husband Xibalba thinks, she made a bet with him that if Manolo managed to marry María she would keep his domain of The land of the remembered which is a sweet paradise where everything is colorful and so alive, people who died but are still remembered by living beings in life can be in that land unlike Xibalba she is fair and would never cheat.

Chakal and his gang

Chakal is the leader of his gang far from any civilization and they raid several towns including this one, San Angel, but he will only send his henchmen. Luis Sanchez (Nickname: Luis the super macho Sanchez)

The Land of the Remembered is a colorful place like San Angel but more colorful and happier with eternal parties and parades. It is like an endless party for those who are dead but are still remembered, and if any of its inhabitants are no longer remembered in life by a loved one, they will be banished to the Land of the Forgotten.

The Land of the Forgotten is a sad, gray and dark place, The Land of the Forgotten is the opposite of The Land of the Remembered being sad and where its inhabitants are dead people who are no longer remembered in life by a loved one, and at some point the inhabitants can fade away which would be the final death, a death in which you can no longer go anywhere, there is only darkness.

The Cave of Souls

The Cave of Souls is a giant cave filled with candles and each lit candle represents a life and when the flame of any candle goes out it is because a life has just perished, the Cave of Souls has two waterfalls that can lead to The Land of the Forgotten or The Land of the Remembered.
