Porter Gage

History

Gage grew up on a farm in a small settlement with his parents, watching as they gave raiders everything they asked for without a fight. When Gage was 12 and they were raided once more, he used that opportunity to escape and avoid following in his parents' footsteps. For the next few years, Gage survived with odd jobs, scraping together caps. Later, he worked for a caravan and as a mercenary; still, he saw how people gave the raiders what they wanted, and he realized something about the life the raiders led: he wanted to be one of them. After raiders sacked the settlement where Gage lived, he joined them at the age of 16. The first gang he was part of was a fairly large group and seemingly had a lot of strength, but they didn't use it wisely. Being young and naive, he tried to suggest different ways the gang could improve and coordinate properly. Eventually, Connor "The Harvester," the gang's leader (and, according to Gage, more ridiculous than intimidating), noticed Gage's suggestions and, to his surprise, listened. From that moment on, Connor was going to ask Gage what he thought of his plans and tell him how much he trusted him, but Gage got carried away. After a year of working for Connor's gang, Gage and Connor came up with a secret plan to make peace with a rival gang. The meeting place would be a neutral zone, and they worked out who would be in charge of negotiating the peace, what would happen if it went wrong, and so on. Gage volunteered to go conduct the negotiation with the backing of three of the gang's biggest names, just in case no one took him seriously. After an hour of negotiations, the rival gang began to show interest in Gage's offer, seeing that the deal suited them. However, at that moment, numerous gunshots and explosions began to be heard.

Gage panicked; he thought something had gone wrong and Connor would have to get them out of it. But the more time passed, the more he realized what was going on: Connor had sprung a trap for him, and Gage had walked right into it. According to Gage, Connor grew fearful of him: he believed Gage had extracted all the information possible from him, and that if he stayed there, he would end up being a threat to his position. So he used him as a distraction to stall the other gang while his men ambushed them. He would get his loot, and Gage would die in the crossfire—it was the perfect plan. So Gage found himself on the other side of the mess, bruised but alive. He thought about going in guns blazing, but he knew it was anger and revenge talking, and he knew how that would end. So he ran and moved on, promising himself he'd never be that stupid again; that he'd never trust anyone to lift a finger except for his own benefit. From that day on, Gage never trusted anyone again, at least not beyond what they could do for him.

Appearance and personality

Gage is a somewhat robust adult man. He has brown skin and dark eyes, his hair is black and is styled with a short Mohawk. His face is not very attractive, he has a metal patch and bad teeth. He is quite brusque, with a certain streetwise way of speaking and is usually very harsh with others. He loves to mess with people directly and equally methodically.
