Appearance

God's true visage has only been seen by a few beings, but it appears to be similar to the appearance of an angel's grace - a blinding white light - though unlike an angel's true form, God's real visage has no ill-effects on humans. As seen in Alpha and Omega, he takes the appearance of a smoke of light. Only his twin sister, Amara has seen God,[1] as well as the Horseman Death, since they have existed alongside God from nearly the beginning of time. When God wanted to physically communicate with Sam and Dean, he took the form of a human and assumed the role of a prophet named Chuck Shurley. Chuck's appearance is that of a man in his late 30s to his early or mid-40s, with a beard and messy hair. He has light blue eyes and is rather short in height. God considers this form "a gift", and describes it as "super cute". When Dean described God to Fortuna, she recognized him, suggesting that God has used this form for millennia.

Personality

Being prideful and egocentric, saying he created other things because he wanted to "be big" - although God admits this is true. When faced with the opportunity to reconcile with Lucifer, if he'd simply apologize for locking him away, Chuck opted to put all the blame on Lucifer in front of the Winchesters to save face. However, shortly after apporting the Winchesters away, he revealed that he'd only punished Lucifer because he hated himself for what his actions had done to his favorite son and apologized. fter billions of years of observing his creations and living among them, his disappointment caused God to become somewhat cynical. He considered human nature to be toxic and was willing to let Amara destroy everything seemingly out of spite against humans, for fighting wars in his name and then begging him to fix everything, and generally not taking responsibility for their failures, as well as Angels out of disappointment of their actions. He also considers his creations to be experiments and also revealed that he abandoned the angels and humanity because they'd disappointed him. Chuck views Sam and Dean, and seemingly his creations generally, as story characters for him to manipulate and observe for his own entertainment. However, there are some ideas that even Chuck finds too disgusting to include for his characters. Despite his sister's claims that he encouraged religion, which she called "monuments to his ego", God often asks people not to refer to him as "God", and to use the moniker "Chuck" instead. He also stated that people bowing before him had always made him feel "deeply, deeply uncomfortable". However, God is fully aware of his nigh-omnipotence and does not hesitate to point out that he could do things most beings could not.

Despite his disappointment and cynicism, God apparently still maintained a level of compassion and care for his creations deep down and it was just buried by the resentment he felt over how both humans and angels had failed him. Like Death, God seems to have a taste for what Dean calls "cheap food". He also likes taking long showers. God was described by Metatron in Sacrifice as "Larger than life, gruff, a bit of a sexist. But fair, eminently fair". This fairness seems to be shown by how God, while willing to forgive Metatron for his offences, refused to give back Metatron's powers. He has a humorous side as when asked by Metatron as to why he hid himself, he explained that he wanted to see everything while being in plain sight and admitted he enjoyed acting as a human to fool those around him. While not easy to anger, once enraged, his anger is considerably large as he can easily be cold, violent, insulting, and even somewhat sadistic, as shown by how after being outraged when Metatron called him a coward, God swiftly responded with fury, throwing him out of the bar. Incapable of viewing anything besides himself and his sister as anything more or less than toys, which exist to entertain him and for him to manipulate as he wishes; a trait consistent with sociopaths and psychopaths. He's shown a callous side to humanity since opening the Rupture to Hell; when he smote Amara's masseuse for no reason, and massacred an entire casino and forced the sole surviving staff-member to continue pleasing him and serving drinks under the subtle threat of doing the same to her. God has a secret fear that is always there and which he only shared with his favorite.

God actually doesn't like to get his hands dirty and prefers watching others do his work for him. While God dislikes getting his hands dirty, when he was confronting Sam and Dean after killing Michael and everyone else on Earth, he decided to get his hands dirty to make them suffer, and showed no hesitation in beating the two to a pulp. True to Amara's claim that Chuck created things because he wanted something else to be bigger than, it's indicated Chuck enjoys lording over and feeling superior to others. Before destroying Earth 2, Chuck visibly reveled in the RadioShed clerk's desperate groveling, petting him on the face in a master-to-dog like manner and assuring the clerk everything would be fine. He also shows extreme arrogance, laughing at the idea of Jack killing him and believing that he cannot be beaten even while not able to read his Death Book and opting to beat the Winchesters hand-to-hand, continuing to do this despite being able to effortlessly kill them in order to truly break them. The deity Fortuna stated God was initially outraged that humanity refused to acknowledge his benevolence and created the Deities to serve as fall guys for when things go wrong.

Unknown Worlds - God created other worlds before creating the universe. Heaven - God's divine domain for noble and righteous souls, as well as angels. The Universe - Some time after God imprisoned the Darkness, God created the Universe. Earth - God's very last masterpiece, according to Lucifer. Alternate Universes - God has created more universes than the main one, so many that he has lost count.[9] Purgatory - God's prison for monsters, specifically the Leviathans. Hell - God's prison for evil souls, demons, Lucifer, and other dangerous creatures. Lucifer's Cage - God's prison created specifically for Lucifer.

Creatures/Beings

Archangels - The first and greatest of all celestial beings; their power and formation is of primordial creation. Deities - The pagan gods of human mythology whom God created to take the blame when things went wrong, and because they made for epic stories. Leviathans - The first and most rancorous beasts, whom God locked in Purgatory to prevent them from wreaking havoc on the rest of creation. Angels - Celestial beings that are weaker than archangels and serve as the soldiers of God. Hellhounds - Intended to be "Creator's best friend," but proved to be too vicious. God intended to exterminate them all until Lucifer rescued one. Humans - God's most beloved creations. Souls - When God created humans, he gave them a spiritual essence (the soul) that also serves as a powerful energy and makes humans unique. Akrida - One of God's final creations which he made as a failsafe to destroy all of Creation in case of his defeat.

Other

The Word of God - God ordered Metatron to write down the Angel, Leviathan, and Demon tablets as instructions for his creations. Purgatory portal - A portal created by God to act as an escape hatch for any humans trapped in Purgatory.[10][11] God's Bar - The safest place in all of creation, and God's hiding place from the Darkness. Mark of Cain (on Amara) - The lock and the key to the Darkness' prison, which became the very first curse. However, the Darkness claims to be the "Original Mark," indicating that the Mark wasn't created by God but was always a part of the Darkness, and God transformed it into a sort of seal to lock her away. The Equalizer (destroyed) - A gun created by God to kill Jack Kline, which has the same effect on the user as it does the being who is shot.[12] It is revealed that the gun is powerful enough to cause serious harm to God himself even with a shoulder wound.[13] Lilith later destroyed the Equalizer at God's request.[14] Rupture to Hell (sealed) - A tear or rupture in the Earth leading into Hell intended to release all of the souls and demons of Hell upon the world.

Abilities

Being among the oldest and most powerful entities in all of existence, God possessed immense power, allowing him to do practically anything he wished. Nigh-Omnipotence - Being a primordial being, God was immensely powerful. Absorption - In Unity, God was able to absorb Amara into himself, although he didn't do this through raw power, rather he and Amara came to an understanding and she agreed to merge with him. Astral Projection - God revealed light that normally shrouds his true form if not his divine form to Metatron. Biokinesis - God was able to cleanse Sam of his demon blood addiction and an entire town of a Rabid infection. With just a shush motion, he silenced Eileen as he had her torture Sam. He also used this ability to cause pain to the Winchesters. Conversion - He transformed Castiel, a regular angel, into a Seraphim. Metatron also noted that God has the power to convert him back to an angel after his grace was removed and he was rendered human, although God refused to do so as a punishment for Metatron's sinister deeds. Electromagnetic Interference - With a simple hand movement, God made the TVs in his bar turn on to news stations regarding the spread of The Darkness' Fog. Flight - In his smoke form, he could fly in the air. Healing - God possessed the ability to heal any type of injury. Localization - God could find any being in existence, provided they were not warded against him. Memory Manipulation - When he resurrected Castiel the third time, he suppressed his memories, albeit temporarily. Mind Control - God could force humans to do actions against their will. Power Granting - When God resurrected Castiel for the second time, he granted him greater powers and promoted him to the rank of a Seraph. Power Negation - God was able to render Lucifer powerless as a "safeguard" against him harming anybody when they assembled in the Men of Letters bunker. He was also able to turn off a necklace that burns hot in his presence.

Reality Warping - His power was so great that reality shaped itself according to his will. Conjuration - He created the Archangels, the Leviathans, the Hellhounds, the Angels, Humans, Souls, as well Heaven, Purgatory, Earth, and countless other Galaxies and the universe itself. Weather Manipulation - God unleashed a cataclysmic storm on The Bad Place to destroy it and he also caused several severe weather phenomena in other alternate realities to begin their destruction. Pyrokinesis - God ended one of the alternate realities by causing a massive fire to burn them all down. Billie also noted that God destroyed the last alternate world by burning it alive. Explosion Induction - God was able to induce an explosion to destroy HunterCorp world. Resurrection - God could bring anyone or anything back to life. Due to his lack of interaction or intervention, however, he didn't do this often. Shapeshifting - God could alter his appearance, changing between his Chuck persona, his true luminous form, and a bright smoke form at will. God has shown the ability to seamlessly shapeshift into other beings in a manner similar to Asmodeus, taking on the appearance of a hunter to trick Eileen Leahy and then shifting back once Sam and Eileen had fallen into his trap. Sealing and imprisonment - God was highly skilled in the art of sealing to the point that his seals were considered incomprehensibly powerful, as not even the passage could destroy them, having the ability to block powerful entities in the local dimensions, preventing them from leaving. Spell Casting - God was able to develop the extremely powerful Primordial Entity Trapping Spell that he successfully cast on the Darkness to confine her within the Mark of Cain. Soul Control - As the creator of souls, God had a certain level of control over them. Soul Absorption - God was able to absorb all the souls composing the Soul Bomb into himself to save Dean's life.

Super Stamina - God possessed eternal stamina and didn't require sustenance, sleep, or oxygen to maintain himself. Super Strength - God was able to effortlessly backhand Dean away and stun him with that single blow. Later, he easily knocked around Sam and Dean with no visible effort, delivering a brutal beating that broke several bones. Supernatural Concealment - While taking the form of Chuck, God was able to conceal himself from angels and the Archangels. It has also been shown that Amara couldn't find him at will. Invisibility - He could only be seen when he wanted to be seen. Supernatural Perception - God could see and sense things that are naturally invisible to humans. Smiting - With just a snap of his fingers, God was able to smite Jack with a similar effect to an angel, although this version was much slower and more painful. Telekinesis - When angered at Metatron for calling him a coward, God telekinetically threw Metatron through the doors of his bar. Teleportation - God could instantly teleport anywhere. Apporting - God was able to teleport anyone anywhere he wanted. Possession - God was able to remotely possess Donatello Redfield who, as a Prophet, is a mouthpiece for the Word of God, both figuratively and literally depending on what God desires. Mental Manipulation - As shown with the alternate future, even with Castiel bearing the mark, God, while trapped in the Mark, was still able to influence the Seraph into going mad. Existence Erasure - God was able to erase beings from existence. Molecular Combustion. Chronokinesis - God was able to travel to an alternate timeline without any effort. Nigh-Omniscience - Existing for eons, God possessed great wisdom and understanding about the universe he made. Universal Awareness - As Metatron said, God could hear and see all. Telepathy - He knew what Sam's thoughts would be about Dean being a dick.

Precognition - God could accurately predict reality to a degree far superior to that of the Archangels, which gave credit to his masquerading as a prophet. Omnipresence. Immortality - God, as being one of the first entities to exist, was immortal. Age, as well as any disease and weapon, were powerless against him. However, Death stated he could die, and Amara managed to fatally wound him where he was about to die after less than a day, before she healed him. Nigh-Invulnerability - The only confirmed being that could kill God was his sister The Darkness, although Death was able to reap God at the end of time. Regeneration - On the rare occasion he was wounded, God could instantly heal all damage. Only tremendously destructive forces could hinder his regeneration. Mandatory Existence - God's existence was one of two that provides balance to reality, the other being The Darkness. As Chuck put it, "Light needs Dark", and "Dark needs Light". Master Strategist and Leader - God is an extraordinarily skilled strategist, referred by Lucifer himself as being a master strategist. Master Manipulator and Deceiver - God is an extraordinary manipulator and deceiver. He was able to put up such a deceitfully convincing act as just a regular prophet that no one, be it the Winchesters, Castiel and the angels, even Raphael who had personally knew him, suspecting he was God. Hand-to-Hand Combatant - God has shown to be a formidable hand to hand combatant as shown when he landed several hits on Sam and Dean in their final confrontation, while being able to block all of their attacks.
