Rias Gremory (リアス・グレモリー, Riasu Guremorī) is the King of the Gremory Clan and former president of the Occult Research Club. She is also the main female protagonist of High School DxD.

Appearance

Rias is a beautiful woman with a very attractive figure, fair skin, almost greenish light blue eyes, and characteristic crimson hair that reaches her thighs, with a single cowlick (known in Japan as Ahoge (アホ毛), or "idiot hair") sticking out from the top of her head. She also has long bangs that, besides covering part of her forehead, frame her face, being longer on the sides. Although she has worn various types of clothing, she most often wears the academy's girls' uniform. This consists of a long-sleeved white button-down shirt (though short-sleeved for spring/summer) with a black ribbon at the collar. She also wears a jacket over the shirt that covers her shoulders and reaches just above her waist, leaving the white shirt over her large breasts, which bounce alluringly, exposed. Finally, she has a magenta skirt with white accents and brown dress shoes with high socks. When she appears as a demon, black wings grow from her back. Measurements: 99-58-90 (bust, waist, hips)

Personality

Throughout the series, Rias is shown to be kind and gentle with her servants. She thinks of Issei as a special person, and always gets jealous when women are around him, becoming a completely different person when he and other girls are together, or when it comes to training. She is proud of her family name, but she doesn't like being seen as Rias of the Gremory Family. She likes to tease Issei and Asia, but at the same time makes it clear to Asia (or any other girl) that Issei is hers, and she doesn't want to share him (this was made clear in volume 3 of the novels that the Gremory family and their servants are beings with extraordinary affection among demons, so Rias is no exception).

History

Rias is the second daughter of the Gremory family. She became the heiress after her brother, Sirzechs, became the Satan Lucifer, losing his right as heir to the house. After being announced as the heiress of the Gremory Clan, Rias is eventually betrothed to Riser Phoenix. Before the series began, Rias reincarnated Akeno, Yūto, Koneko, and Gasper as her servants. Two years before the start of the series, she joined Kuoh Academy along with Akeno, the queen, Sōna Sitri, heir to the Sitri family and younger sister of Serafall Leviathan, and Tsubaki Shinra, Sōna Sitri's queen.

Synopsis

The Awakening of the Red Emperor Dragon: When Issei Hyōdō was killed by a Fallen Angel (known as Yuuma Amano at the time), Rias resurrects him. Later, when Issei is seriously injured by another Fallen Angel, this time by Dohnaseek; Rias takes the boy to her house and spends the whole night healing him. She saves him a second time along with the other members of the Occult Research Club. When Issei goes to the abandoned church to rescue Asia Argento, Rias indirectly helps Issei by killing three of Raynare's allies before finishing off the latter. She then revives Asia as her bishop. After her training with Issei, Rias tells him that Asia Argento will stay with him at his house, managing to persuade Issei's parents. Later, Rias is seen in Issei's bed naked, trying to get him to take her virginity in the hope of breaking her engagement. The attempt, however, was stopped by the appearance of Grayfia Lucifuge, who scolds Rias for trying to break the engagement arranged by her brother and father. When Rias's fiancé, Riser Phoenix, appears at the Occult Research Club, Rias, who was still dissatisfied with the engagement, agreed to have a qualifying game with a low elevator under the condition that Rias must win. If Rias wins, the engagement is broken, or if Riser wins, the wedding ceremony will proceed.

During her training in the mountains, Rias begins to develop strong feelings for Issei. On the day of the game's ranking. While the battle initially went well for Rias's team, they ultimately lose due to a lack of members, after seeing Issei beaten nearly to death, yet still standing, trying to fight for her. She was later seen at her engagement party in the human world, which was interrupted by Issei who came to challenge Riser once more to break her marriage to Rias; this time Issei emerged victorious. After Issei helps break the engagement, Rias falls in love with him and kisses him for the first time. She moves into Issei's house after the elevator incident.

Skills/Powers

From her mother, Rias inherited the Bael Clan's Power of Destruction. This power allows her to unleash energies that can disintegrate matter, both living and inanimate, with relative ease. However, opponents who wield sufficiently greater power can protect themselves from this. Rias possesses all the common powers and abilities of a Devil. She has also proven to be at least somewhat proficient in the use of spells, such as the ritual to drain the energy from Issei's left hand, allowing her to appear human again, teleportation using a magic circle, and others. As the sister of a Demon King, the novel implies that her power is high compared to other Demons her age. In Volume 1, she and Akeno are able to defeat three Fallen Angels with relative ease. In Volume 3, with an 8-fold increase from Issei's Booster Gear, she was able to force Kokabiel to defend himself. Despite blocking her attack, Kokabiel did not emerge completely unscathed from this battle. Rias has gained the ability to project a red light from her breasts, which recharges Issei's energy. Each use of this power causes her breasts to temporarily reduce in size. Her breast size is restored after a few days of rest.

Immortality: The ability not to die of old age. Use of Magic: Ability to create multiple magical seals with incredible powers. Power of Destruction: A unique ability inherited from his mother, allowing him to disintegrate living and inanimate matter. He can surround himself with this power, making him practically untouchable. Darkness Queen Mode: Appearance of armor made from the scales of the Divine Dark Dragon, the strongest metal in the universe, practically indestructible. Although it appears heavy, it incredibly increases the owner's speed and strength.

Relations

Issei Hyōdō: Issei officially becomes Rias's boyfriend after he finally confesses his love for her in volume 10 of the light novels. It took him a long time to do so because he was traumatized by the incident with Raynare, which was affecting his relationships with all the girls. He received permission from Rias's mother to start a harem so that all the girls would be happy, as they weren't going to give him up just because he was in love with Rias. Akeno Himejima: She is very close to Rias, having a strong relationship that goes beyond master-servant; they are like sisters. However, she is now one of her strongest rivals for Issei's love, as she became a rival in volume 5 and fell in love with him in volume 7 of the light novels. Akeno and Rias have a bitter struggle over Issei's love, and she considers Akeno her greatest rival. Yūto Kiba: Due to his past, where he was part of a project called the Sacred Sword Project, which led to his death. After which, he was revived by Rias, becoming her servant. Rias still hopes that Kiba will call her Onee-sama. Koneko Tōjō: She cares deeply for Koneko as she was one of her first servants, but considers her a rival since Koneko truly falls in love with Issei. Koneko fell in love with Issei in Volume 5 because he helped her overcome her fear of using her powers. Koneko proposed to Issei that she wants to be his wife in Volume 11 of the light novels. Asia Argento: Rias treats her like a sister, since they live together, but also like a rival for Issei's love, as Issei also loves her; even so, she cares a lot about her.

Xenovia: She is a trusted servant, but she considers her a rival since Xenovia wants to have children with Issei and develops feelings for him as the series progresses. Irina Shidō: She is not one of his servants, but rather part of the representation of angels in the allied forces and a member of Michael's team. Rias considers her a good friend, but also a rival, as she is Issei's childhood friend and has been in love with him since then, truly wanting a serious relationship with the possibility of having children. However, she would face a difficult time as she would become a fallen angel. Gasper Vladi: Rias's first bishop. He was sealed by Rias at the academy because his powers were out of control, and wasn't seen until volume 4 of the novels. Rias has had to endure his discomfort and fix everything to ensure he's alright. She's shown to care deeply for him, such as when she went to rescue him from the Khaos Brigade, regardless of the risks to herself.
