Kokushibo referred to him as a man who never showed his emotions, however, in his old age, during their meeting, Yoriichi cried when he saw his older brother, probably feeling sorry for him, but did not hesitate and almost immediately attacked him. Tanjiro noticed in Sumiyoshi's memoirs that Yoriichi was a simple and quiet person.

Yoriichi was born into an aristocratic family. Since the twins were born, it was necessary to choose who would become the heir of the house and who would go to the temple. Yoriichi was born with a strange mark on his forehead, and therefore his father considered him cursed and wanted to kill him, but the baby's mother did not allow this to be done, and as a result, it was decided that upon reaching the age of 10, the boy with the mark would go to the temple. Yoriichi lived in a small room. He did not speak until he was 7 years old, so he was considered deaf and dumb. He always ran up to her at the sight of his mother and held on to her left side. One day, out of charity, his older brother gave him a homemade pipe, and this caused unprecedented joy in the boy. At the age of 7, he tried his hand at fencing, and taking a small shinai (a wooden stick for training) for the first time in his life, he defeated an adult swordsman with four quick strokes. Unlike his older brother Michikatsu Tsugikuni (who was the heir of the house from birth), he did not like military affairs and did not strive for the rich life that he had. Instead, he loved games very much, and always wanted to play with his brother. At the same time, the older brother was fiercely jealous of the younger one for his fencing skills and for the fact that the latter was able to easily defeat teacher Michikatsu.

After discovering that Yoriichi has amazing physical skills, and besides, special vision (he could see the structure of the bodies of living organisms), it was decided to make him the heir of the house, and Michikatsu was exiled to the temple. But the boy did not like this fate, and when his mother died, he secretly went to his brother. Taking with him only his brother's gift — a small pipe, he went to the temple. When the loss was discovered, a written certificate fell into Michikatsu's hands, from which it turned out that his mother died of an illness in her left side. It turned out that Yoriichi saw his mother's illness with his eyesight and always supported her by her sore side. Realizing this, Michikatsu's nose bled and he tore up the papers. Yoriichi decided to live with her, and 10 years later Uta and Yoriichi got married, and Uta became pregnant with his child. Shortly before the expected birth of their child, Yoriichi left home to call a midwife, promising his wife to return before sunset. On the way, Yoriichi helped the old man, having lost so much time that he decided to return home and call the midwife the next day. By that time, the sun had already set, and when he finally returned home, he found Uta lying on the ground, killed by a demon. The tragedy shocked Yoriichi so much that he held their corpses in his arms for ten days in a row and buried them only after the pursuing Demon Hunter convinced him to do so. Then, 10 years later, the Michikatsu military camp (who became a samurai and started a family) was attacked by a demon. All the warriors died, and Michikatsu himself would have died if an adult Yoriichi had not appeared, who instantly dealt with the demon. Tamae burst into tears when she realized that Mudzan had learned how to avoid death by decapitation and that the man who ruined her life was still alive. Yoriichi reassured Tamae, who kept telling him that Mudzan would most likely avoid meeting Yoriichi again and she was glad that she was freed from Mudzan's control due to the fact that he was weakened. Yoriichi asked Tamae for help, to which she reluctantly agreed. Soon after, some Demon Hunters inform Yoriichi that his brother betrayed the organization and became a Kokushibo demon. This, along with Yoriichi's failure to assassinate Mudzan, infuriated many who wanted him to resign. The new head of the demon slayers, however, did not agree with this, although Yoriichi felt guilty for putting a huge burden on a six-year-old boy. After that, Yoriichi traveled in order to find Mudzan. At this time, he rescues Sumiyoshi Kamado, the ancestor of Tanjiro Kamado, and presumably leaves him the Fire god Dance based on the breath of the Sun and used by the Kamado family from generation to generation for hundreds of years.At the age of 80, the brothers meet again. Kokushibo, who did not believe that his brother had managed to live with the mark until old age, was at a loss. Immeasurable Speed and reflexes: Yoriichi possessed an unprecedented level of speed, surpassing all other characters in the series, including the Demon King, which was shown when he was able to dodge every Muzan attack and almost fatally injure Muzan in one move, despite the demon's own immeasurable speed and strength. Even when Muzan split into 1,800 pieces of flesh to escape, Yoriichi still managed to reduce their number to 300 in a matter of moments. Even on the last day of his life, he was able to easily defeat Kokusibo, Muzan's strongest subordinate, almost instantly severing his neck, despite Yoriichi telling him when he would strike. As further evidence of his godlike movement speed, Yoriichi Type Zero, a robot doll modeled after him and used for training by Demon Fighters, was built with six arms because only two arms could not replicate Yoriichi's movements. Immeasurable endurance: Even as a seven-year-old child, Yoriichi could run all day without rest; he even noted that he did not feel the slightest fatigue.[28] His vitality also exceeds the peak human level, as he is able to survive without food and water for ten whole days when he hugged his dead wife.[29] Moreover, Yoriichi lived to be 80 years old, and his strength did not weaken at all, as was shown when he instantly defeated Kokushibo during their final confrontation.Immeasurable power: Yoriichi possesses a tremendous level of physical strength, possibly surpassing that of almost all other existing Demon Slayers. As a child, he could knock out an adult man with good physical abilities with a wooden blade, even inflicting extremely severe bruises the size of a fist. When he was an adult, he was able to effortlessly cut off the neck of Muzan Kibutsuji, the most fortified part of the body of the strongest demon in existence.

Extrasensory perception: Besides the sixth sense granted by the Transparent World, which allowed him to see the inner workings of a person, Yoriichi also possesses extremely honed sensory abilities capable of detecting things beyond the normal range of perception. Like most high-level Demon Fighters, Yoriichi will be able to distinguish the aura of demons from a human one, as well as determine the strength of his enemies at a glance. During Yoriichi's first meeting with Muzan, he immediately realized that by the will of fate he was born in this world to defeat him.[31] Yoriichi was also able to accurately sense the aura of the Demon King, which he describes as magma erupting from a volcano.

Equipment:

Standard Nichirin Katana: Yoriichi carries around a standard sized and shaped Nichirin katana that is deep black in color, but changes bright red during combat. His katana's hilt is circular shaped with 4 slight indentations, with a black center and a golden border. Yoriichi's katana also has the words Slay (滅めつ, Metsu?) engraved on the side, unlike Slay All Demons written on the Hashira's swords. Along with his katana, Yoriichi also carries a standard sword sheath that is black in color. It is implied that his katana was discovered after his death and hidden in the battle doll made in his image, Yoriichi Type Zero.
