Persona Attributes
Appearance
Spiral of Contempt is a mass of twisted gold branches roughly in the shape of a person from the waist up, and tapering to a conical outline from the waist down. Two branches extend from its back, forming rough approximations of "wings". A large red gem, or eye, is located at the center of its "head". Its hands are made of solid black stone, and is held upwards. A spring of blood pours constantly from its cupped hands. Spikes of the black rock that makes up its hands can also be found at the junction between its upper and lower body.

Y’know what used to really irk me back home? Going without a meal, begging and pleading just so I can borrow some money… I never really minded that kinda thing. Only took a moment to put stuff like that behind me. What really got to me though, was… that look of contempt. Like I’m beneath them. I thought I’d gotten over that. Thought I’d grown out of it, learned to endure, ignore, and move on. … Until today. That thing doesn’t even look like a person. I wouldn’t even know how to describe that floaty thing if someone asked me to. But… You know what I mean, right? It’s got that… oddly demeaning gaze. At least that’s what it feels like. It really got to me for some reason. Weird, squiggly artsy fartsy-lookin’… Tsk. I think it’s making some odd metallic noise, too. Kinda looks like it's made of gold, doesn’t it? We should scrap it and sell its pieces so we can grab us tons of gourmet beef for a barbecue party.

Haah… Yeah, I can tell that this one isn’t gonna be easy. I was right on the money about its ‘look of contempt’. The thing just glared at the one that attacked it most... before suddenly switching to a different kind of look? 'Worthless wretch, your worth is not enough to even lay a finger on me.' … that’s what it would’ve said if it had a mouth, don'tcha think? That’s the impression I got, anyway. Oh, and… sometimes, a huge pair of hands would just burst outta nowhere and snatch one of us away. Meursault got snatched last time… and we didn’t know what to do. And the thing just squeezed him ‘till it left nothing but what looked like crushed tomato puree behind... Eeuughh… just awful, right? Anyways… the only way to free us is to literally smack the hand until it breaks. Didn’t know it’d be that straightforward, but yeah… And uh, if the hands ever get me… please, please make sure to prioritize breaking its grasp, ‘kay? Sure, dying is never fun. But if I’m going to die anyway, I’d rather not get panini pressed to death.

Okay, so I thought about this for a sec. Its grabby palm attack and its gaze full of contempt… they’ve gotta be related somehow. First things first: the palms don’t just randomly grab any Sinner. We've been missing its logic and pattern this whole time. There’s a specific window where it grabs us if we attack its hands. At first, I thought it was just plucking us one by one, like plucking weeds from a garden… going for the most annoying one of us. You see the logic, right? If you could squash anything getting in your way into tomato paste, wouldn’t you? Actually, it totally makes sense. Wouldn’t everyone? … I guess it’s my fault for expecting these things to follow any common sense. Oh, but I think we can use its palms to our advantage. During the fight, we managed to free one of the captured Sinners who had its gaze on ‘em. And that seemed to… really catch it off guard. Must’ve been a shock, huh? Watching us, who are supposed to be nothing but lowly wretches, actually breaking its grasp and freeing our friend… know what I mean? It seemed dazed for a good while, too. And that’s when we managed to really hurt it. Mmm… still, we have to let it gaze at us with that weird look if we wanna pull off something like that again. I guess it’s all about managing the risk & return, y’know…? Boy, good luck, Dante! Hope your head doesn’t explode tryna work out this mess. … Oh my, is that why it’s always on fire? You know I’m just joshin’ ya, right? Hehe.
Trivia
The battle theme of this Abnormality is titled Cur dolorem sentis, which roughly translates to "Why do you feel pain?" from Latin. The Abnormality shares a few similarities with Kromer and the N Corp. Inquisition. Among its core mechanics are Gaze, which shares the name with Kromer's Gaze It has a skill titled It Shall Grip related to its other core mechanic, similar to the title used for the N Corp Inquisition The One Who Shall Grip, as well as Kromer's own title The One Who Grips. The E.G.O Gift Perversion and the name of the Abnormality containing Contempt also fit words used to describe the N Corp. Inquisition. They hold contempt towards prosthetics users and partake in perversion of the flesh. The sins (Lust, Wrath, Pride) and status effects (Bleed, Bind, Fragile) used by the N Corp. Inquisition are also used by Spiral of Contempt. Sinners killed by Spiral of Contempt have a unique death animation. Golden branches grow over their corpse, as it kneels with its hands cupped into the air.

Prompt
Blood pours from above; the land of gold lies beyond. The spiral ahead loudly screeches. It must have reached this depth after burrowing and burrowing. Although it has no eyes, it creaks to face you. You continue to stare at its peculiar movements with yearning eyes. It feels as though spirals of spikes are digging into your head. From the excavated brain, geysers of hatred and contempt erupt. It’s as if those feelings were inside you all along. The whirling spiral slows down, showing forgiveness. Reverence for a being of no significance is followed by a slight self-contempt. The spiral descended out of sight in the meantime. Though you turned away, it keeps pulling you in. As if drawn by a magnet, all eyes are pulled toward it. The spiral has not forgiven. Contempt for your hesitation to show the courage not to face it takes over. You feel the encroaching spiral slowly dig its way in. A Sinner seized the creaking spiral. Unpleasant, metallic noise whirls, and its contemptuous gaze radiates in all directions. The spiral strikes at the Sinner's heart.
