Personality

Giyuu always shows a stoic and unflappable expression on his face. However, he has a reserved personality and a strong sense of justice, with no tolerance towards those who do not know their own limits and risk their lives. Despite letting Nezuko Kamado live due to Tanjiro Kamado's persistence, he shows zero hesitation in killing other demons and has no respect or mercy towards them like most Demon Hunters. Still, Giyuu violated the Demon Slayer Corps' code of conduct without hesitation to protect Nezuko during Shinobu's attempt to kill her. This implies that he does not completely despise demons like some other Hashira, and is willing to make exceptions, allowing a demon to live if it does not kill or eat humans. This shows that he is more pragmatic when dealing with demons, rather than letting their hatred cloud his judgment. Giyuu seems to have a complex about what others think of him and is surprised when Shinobu Kocho claims that he is hated by many. Despite that, he does not seem to be affected by Shinobu's criticism and generally ignores her. Despite being friends with a significant history together. He is a man of few words and has difficulty interacting with others, so he generally keeps his distance. He even goes out of his way to tell Akaza that he hates talking and wants to keep his name a secret, as he thinks names are not meant to be shared, especially with demons.

Appearance

Giyuu is a fairly tall young man with a thin muscular build and pale complexion, who is almost always seen with a serious and emotionless expression. He has messy black hair of uneven lengths that stands up in strands around his head, which he wears tied in a low, messy ponytail at the base of his neck. His bangs fall over his eyes in a ragged fringe. His eyes are sharp and moderately large, with irises of a deep sapphire fading to a lighter blue, and pupils of blue-black, framed by thin eyebrows. Giyuu wears a dark cyan version of the standard Demon Hunter uniform, with white kyahan wrapped around his legs and a pair of white zōri with dark blue straps and tabi underneath in the same cyan color as his uniform. Over this, Giyu wears a haori that is split down the middle into two different patterns: the right side is a solid dark red, while the left side has a geometric pattern with rhombuses of green, orange, and yellow. It was later mentioned that these haori belonged to his late older sister, Tsutako Tomioka, and his late friend Sabito.

Demon Hunter

As Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is extremely powerful and skilled in combat. From the beginning, he easily overpowered Tanjiro and his friends, effortlessly capturing Nezuko and knocking them unconscious with a single blow. He has defeated formidable opponents such as Father in his transformed state and Rui, Lower Rank Five, achievements that Tanjiro and Inosuke found difficult. Giyu has also fought on equal terms with his Hashira partner, Sanemi Shinazugawa. His abilities extend to facing numerous demons similar to the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki with ease. Beyond his combat prowess, Giyu is a competent team player, understanding the intentions of his teammates and coordinating effectively with them.
