Shadow Company is an elite covert unit of private military contractors under the direct command of General Shepherd that appears as the main enemy faction for the last missions in the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and in one Special Ops mission, "Snatch & Grab". All members of the unit are extremely loyal to General Shepherd to the point where they assisted him in his plans to betray Task Force 141. The Shadow Company return as a multiplayer faction in Call of Duty Online.

History

On August 15th, 2016, Shadow Company is deployed by Shepherd to the Caucasus Mountains near the Georgian-Russian border, there they secured the landing zone. When Roach and Ghost, who have downloaded a DSM containing vital intelligence on Makarov reached the landing zone. Shepherd, their leader, showed his true colors and betrayed the two, killing them and then ordered Shadow Company contractors to burn their bodies. On the same day, Shadow Company contractors appeared in the U.S. Vehicle Disposal Yard 437 in Eastern Afghanistan, where they engaged Makarov's Inner Circle and also attempted to kill Soap and Price, despite their best effort, Soap and Price managed to escape.
