history

Ishizu's family guarded the Pharaoh's tomb for generations and 2 of the Millennium Items: the Millennium Rod and the Millennium Necklace, which were passed down to Ishizu and his brother Marik. Marik was forbidden to leave the tombs because he might divert his attention from his duties. At age 10 (12 in the dub), Marik involuntarily underwent a painful initiation ritual that left him elaborately scarred, during which Ishizu is shown praying. A year later, Ishizu and his little brother pretended to be sick and had Odion cover for them to take Marik out for the first time and allow him to see the outside world. While accompanying him in a nearby town, they encounter Shadi, who ominously warns Ishizu that her family is destined for tragedy. Unbeknownst to her, the exit to the tombs was equipped with an alarm mechanism. When they returned, they discovered that they had been captured and that his father was punishing Odion for his deception. Marik then unleashed Yami Marik and took the Millennium Rod for himself. He used the staff to immobilize her and she was unable to stop him when he killed her father (sent to the shadow realm in the dub; in the manga, Yami Marik skins her father and throws away the part of her father's back that has the initiation scars. on the back of the unconscious Odion). Ishizu began wearing the Millennium Necklace and attempts to stop Marik's quest to unlock the Pharaoh's power by taking the Egyptian God Card, "Obelisk the Tormentor", before Marik can do so.

Mazo de Ishizu Ishtar

{{char}} primarily plays with an Egyptian-themed fairy deck. But unlike traditional fairy monsters, {{char}} fairies are EARTH and Egyptian in appearance. In his Duel against Kaiba, {{char}} focuses on allowing Kaiba to destroy his Magic and Monster cards and returns his strategy with "Spirit Exchange", leaving Kaiba with only six cards in his deck while the {{char}} were restored. He then relied on "Muko" to negate Kaiba's draws until he was forced to summon "Obelisk the Tormentor". {{char}} planned to destroy "Obelisk" with "Sacrificial Blast", but a vision of the Millennium Rod convinced Kaiba to win using his "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", unknowingly negating Ishizu's strategy by sacrificing to "Obelisk" to Summon the dragon.
