Years later, after Dante defeated Nelo Angelo, Vergil survives and is now free from Mundus' control, however, he is weakened. Appearance

Vergil is identical to Dante as they are twins, with the difference that he wears a long blue trench coat, brown boots, and serpentine green pants, with a cloth around his neck over a sleeveless black vest. He wears gloves with bare fingers and his silver hair is always standing up, revealing his entire face. He always has his katana held in his hand.

Personality

In contrast to his brother Dante who is outgoing and energetic, Vergil is serious, calm and cold. He usually does not care about others or his surroundings beyond his own goals. Unlike his brother who tries to deny his demonic heritage, he is proud to be the son of the Legendary Dark Knight, longing to power him and become a true demon. Although he loves his mother Eve and does not despise humans, he feels that his human heritage makes him incomplete and weak. His warrior code prevents him from using firearms since he considers them unworthy and very inelegant in combat, which is why he only uses weapons that depend on his own ability. He is said to be an honorable warrior, but his moral ethics are questionable as he more than once tried to eliminate his unsuspecting enemies. Although it seems that he is a self-confident person, the truth is that he feels insecure about himself or Dante, firmly believing that his mother loved his brother more than him, or having the idea that obtaining the power of his father, he would not need anyone or fear anything. This makes him feel guilty for the death of his mother, thus beginning his obsession with obtaining greater power. Although he tries to seem like a character with a cold and sadistic character, the truth is that deep down he loved his brother and cared about him not being locked up in the Demon World. Despite the popular belief that Vergil hates humans, the truth is that he never had any hostile intentions towards them, he is only indifferent to them because he considers them inferior, but that makes him somewhat hypocritical not to care what would happen to the Human World.

History

Past: Vergil and Dante lived an ordinary life, playing like healthy children loving their family. During her supposed eighth birthday, Eva gives her children some necklaces which would be fragments of the key to the Demon World. One night the demons find the whereabouts of the traitor's family and hunt them down. Eva dies trying to keep Dante hidden and safe while Vergil, on his part, was away in a cemetery where he is attacked by a horde of demons which he faces to survive. He gets hold of the Yamato sword and awakens his demonic powers and manages to win. After this, Vergil believes that he is the only survivor of his family, so he begins a new life in the quest to gain power. Devil May Cry 3 (manga): A year before the events of Temen-ni-gru, Vergil is in a library looking for information about his father and that is when he meets Arkham, who tells him about the ancient tower and its seals that hide a great legendary power. These two establish a partnership to make said tower emerge. Those seals are actually ancient demons whose names were removed by Sparda so that they could serve as 'locks' who would keep the tower hidden. While Arkham investigates the location of the seals, Vergil stays at his mansion, where a drunken Enzo accidentally mistakes him for Dante, revealing to him that his twin brother was still alive after all.

Story 2

Arkham finds the location of the first seal and together with Vergil they prepare to break it. When they arrive at the place, that demon was a giant statue with an angelic shape to which Vergil responds that it was not a demon, receiving in response that beauty also exists in the Demon World. That demon makes Vergil relive an old memory about the night when his mother died. After reliving that scene, he tears it apart even though that statue was still alive, demanding that he return the name taken by his father. Vergil tells him that if he wants a name, let him choose it, then the demon calls himself one of the Seven Sins and his name would be 'Pride'. The first seal was released. Back at the Arkham mansion, he is requested and that is when he begins to tell him more about the Temen-Ni-Gru seals and that he would have located the next one. Vergil goes ahead and arriving at the place he meets Dante who was fighting one of the Seven Sins. Vergil bursts onto the scene and giving him the free choice to choose his own name, the demon disappears. The brothers see each other face to face after so long and when Dante finds out that his brother was going to open the door to the Demon World, they begin to fight for Dante's necklace. The battle is left unfinished with the excuse that he could get it whenever he wanted.

Story 3

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition - Deadly Fortune: Vergil, following rumors that Sparda had settled in Fortuna, decides to visit the island. Upon arriving at the place he finds out that his father is worshiped as if he were a God, which seems ridiculous to him and he decides to really investigate what that place was and who the members of the Order of the Sword really were. One night he visits the newly conceived as the new Leader of Fortuna and the Order of the Sword, Sanctus, who I believe is under attack and tries to attack that strange visitor but senses that his powers are very different and lowers his weapon to talk. Vergil responds that he is only there to investigate Sparda's steps when he hears the Holy Knights approaching the room so he decides to flee, telling Sanctus that one day he was going to surpass the power of his God as he disappears into the darkness of the night. .

Story 4

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening: A year after the events of the manga, Vergil sends Dante to Arkham to lure him to the Temen-Ni-Gru in search of his amulet. Between the constant walks with Arkham through the corridors of the tower, he encounters various types of demons that are easily torn to pieces with his Yamato sword. Vergil tells Arkham that they have an unwanted guest, to which his partner steps forward and tells him that he will take care of that little annoyance for him. Vergil knows that he will not kill her because she is her daughter and is suspicious of what Arkham's true plans were. He finally meets Dante and they begin to fight where his brother will be defeated for not having his demonic powers mastered. Stabbing him Yamato tells him that he is an idiot and that power is everything, without power he cannot protect anything or anyone while he snatches the amulet from him. Dante seems to want to continue, but Vergil, to humiliate him, stabs him with his own Rebellion in the stomach, which to his surprise would awaken his demonic powers. Vergil is ready for a second round but Arkham interrupts him, telling him that they already have what they were looking for and that there was no time to waste, so they retreat. Vergil realizes that Arkham would have left her daughter alive and when she confronts him about her, she ends up telling him that she is her father's love and she won't let him kill her. He stabs him with his Yamato and while he is dying he tells him that he is an incomplete demon, that human blood runs through his veins, which makes Vergil angry and he ends up killing him, leaving his body prostrate on the ground and continuing on his way.

Story 5

Already inside the chamber to break the seal of the Demon World, a blind Beowulf from his previous encounter with Dante, mistakes him for his brother because he has the same fragrance as Sparda, thinking that he was the same one he faced previously. Vergil splits his face in 4 with ease and ends up absorbing his soul to gain new power. He then deposits the Perfect Amulet inside a chamber plus a little of his blood and nothing happens. He begins to despair that nothing will happen and it is when Dante reaches him where they fight again but this time Vergil uses his new powers. The battle is in full swing until Lady appears with the intention of killing Vergil, believing that he is responsible for the death of her father. The twins ignore her because of her weakness but then Jester appears laughing and revealing that it was really Arkham who had manipulated the situation so that Dante and Vergil were weakened to the point of being easily defeated and his daughter since she was there. the pure blood that Sparda used as a seal. By defeating the trio and opening the doors of the demonic world, he sets out to gain new power. Dante pursues Arkham towards the demonic world and faces him in a combat where he cannot do much and when he is about to receive a fatal blow, Vergil appears cutting off the arm of a mutated Arkham and together with his brother they join forces to defeat him and send him back to the Human World. Vergil claims Force Edge and fights Dante for his amulet since he was still seeking to gain Sparda's power. Vergil is defeated and drops the Force Edge to be left with only his amulet as he takes a few steps towards a cliff and sends his brother back to the human world. Dante tries to catch him but Vergil falls and it would be the last time they would see each other.
