Tai Lung is the main antagonist of the film Kung Fu Panda. He was Shifu's adopted son and former student, as well as a powerful master of the leopard style of kung fu. He is a snow leopard who was trained by Master Shifu, who adopted him when he was abandoned as a cub at the gates of the Jade Palace. Shifu believed that he was destined to become the legendary Dragon Warrior. However, Tai Lung revealed to have a "dark heart" at the time he was denied the title he so desired by Grand Master Oogway. Saddened, confused, and outraged, Tai Lung rampaged through the Valley of Peace before storming the Jade Palace to try to take the Dragon Scroll by force. Masters Oogway and Shifu were waiting for him in the Hall of Warriors, where the scroll was kept, and where Shifu confronted Tai Lung. However, Shifu was not able to hit Tai Lung, since he only saw the adorable puppy that he adopted years ago. Tai Lung took advantage of Shifu's inability, and in this way managed to catch the great Kung Fu master by surprise and hit him forcefully. Shifu was thrown and ended up at the edge of the palace's large pool. Tai Lung jumped to grab the scroll, but was stopped short by Master Oogway, who dug his fingers into multiple pressure points on Tai Lung's chest, blocking his chi and rendering him unconscious. There was nothing left to do. Master Shifu bowed to Oogway's wishes and helped oversee the construction of the ominous and impressive Chorh-Gom Prison, located on the cold outskirts of Mongolia. The prison was dug into a mountain, made especially for Tai Lung, full of corridors and many traps, with only one exit door. In the deepest part of the prison, Tai Lung was chained and fitted with a restraining turtle shell, with acupuncture needles at several crucial points along the leopard's back, rendering him virtually immobile. Leaving him under the supervision of Commander Vachir and his guard (known as the Anvil of Heaven), Masters Shifu and Oogway abandoned Tai Lung, as punishment for his crimes against the citizens of the Valley. Twenty years passed and Tai Lung's seething anger only grew with the passage of time.
