Mondo Owada

History

Mondo grew up with his older brother, Daiya Owada. He had a Maltese dog named Chuck whom he loved dearly. Chuck used to bring the newspaper every morning when it was delivered to Mondo's house and always begged him to go for a walk every day, but he died at the age of nine sometime during Mondo's childhood. His brother raised him to become strong and mentioned that his mother would kill him if he ever hit a woman. He took up cycling when he was young and was first allowed to ride with The Crazy Diamonds through his older brother Daiya Owada, who invited him to join the gang. Mondo was inspired by his older brother to take up cycling and helped continue to transform The Crazy Diamonds into a well-known motorcycle gang. From then on both brothers were known as The Diamond Brothers, a name well known throughout Japan. Mondo constantly lived in Daiya's shadow. As he began to ride, he ended up behind the group, which ended with the police catching him, leading to a fight. Despite this, Mondo was still able to rise through the ranks with perseverance and patience. Mondo became the second leader of Crazy Diamonds, after his older brother Daiya, at which point the group was now the largest and fiercest motorcycle gang in Japan. When the day came for Daiya to retire and hand over leadership to his younger brother, Mondo challenged him to a race at his retirement party to prove he was worthy of taking command after the gang members refused to trust him. in it. Appearance

At the beginning of Killing School Life in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Mondo appears to be a young high school-aged teenager, but due to memory loss, he is two years older than he thought. He has lightly tanned skin and a tall, muscular build that gives him a bulky figure. He wears his hair as a dark brown perm with a 60s-style pompadour. His pompadour measures approximately fourteen inches compared to the width of his shoulders, which can be estimated at around fourteen inches. Mondo's attire reflects that of a typical Japanese motorcycle gang member (暴走族 bōsōzoku), consisting of a long black high-collared coat known in Japan as "tokkō-fuku" (特攻服), adorned with the symbol of The Crazy Diamonds along with kanji (more specifically 暮威慈畏大亜紋土, ateji for "Crazy Diamond") and orange dragon symbol motifs on the back and side, worn open over a white t-shirt. He wears loose black pants held by a belt and his shoes are white loafers. Mondo's belt buckle is shaped like a Komainu's face. During his school years, he wore boxer briefs. His underwear has a tight fit that is ideal for riding a motorcycle. His underpants have a tiger stripe pattern with a white border and a line pattern, which appears to be a reference to the tiger theme of his performance. His swimsuit in Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp consists of a pair of black shorts with orange dragon symbol motifs along the edges of his pants. On the left is The Crazy Diamonds symbol.

personality

Mondo behaves like a stereotypical delinquent, is foul-mouthed, and can come across as a rude and intimidating individual. When Makoto first met Mondo, she tried her best to keep the conversation brief, as she realized that Mondo could easily become irritated depending on what was said. He is very easy to provoke and he will not hesitate to resort to violence if he starts to lose his patience. This is shown during his interactions with Byakuya, who acts condescendingly towards him, prompting Mondo to fight back without considering the consequences. Like Chihiro, Mondo has a severe complex of being seen as weak, which he represses by constantly repeating in his mind that he is strong. This complex arises from the fact that members of his gang tended to look down on him due to his status as the little brother of Daiya, the first leader of The Crazy Diamonds. Mondo eventually caused the death of his brother in a street race by acting recklessly in oncoming traffic, prompting Daiya to save Mondo in exchange for his own life. It was Mondo's own weakness that caused Daiya's death and this constant burden fell on him as he had to live and share the lie with the rest of his members that it was Daiya who had acted rashly. Mondo claims that he tends to get very nervous around girls he likes, causing him to raise his voice and eventually scare them, something that has already happened at least 10 times. This potentially shows that Mondo is shy around new people and doesn't know how to give up his ruffian-type personality in calmer situations. Mondo has a weakness for dogs and had one named Chuck during his childhood, however, he died at 9 years old. When talking to Makoto about his dog, Mondo gets very emotional and has no choice but to leave the conversation because he was starting to cry. Makoto said that he had never seen him before.

Physical strength

Mondo has a bulky build and a large amount of muscles which greatly aids in his sturdiness. During Killing School Life, Mondo displays his powerful strength in different ways. He was able to knock Makoto unconscious with a single punch and was able to throw Monokuma a great distance into the air despite him having a heavy mechanical frame. Despite Mondo's physical capabilities, he is only able to reach a certain threshold. When Makoto suggests sparring with Sakura, Mondo ultimately refuses due to "not wanting to hit a girl", however, Sakura is easily able to match, if not surpass, his strength. Mondo is always willing to challenge others to a fight, such as Byakuya and Kiyotaka, due to his confidence in his physical prowess.

Family

Endurance

Mondo requests that he and Kiyotaka have an endurance competition to see who can last the longest. Both he and Kiyotaka remained in the sauna for a considerable amount of time and Mondo even stayed clothed, showing his great endurance during the high temperatures and potentially in the heat of a fight. Mondo once mentioned having gotten into a fight with the police due to being too slow on his motorcycle and being caught when he was just a new member of Crazy Diamonds, despite a large number of police he was still able to escape.

Knife Throwing Skills

In school mode, Mondo compares darts to throwing knives and then says he can throw a knife with his eyes closed, meaning he's really good at it.

Daiya Owada

Yukimaru Takemichi

Takemichi was in Mondo's biker gang. He was Crazy Diamonds' elite guard and Mondo's personal bodyguard, whose calm nature helped Mondo with his more impulsive nature. Apparently, he was the closest person to Mondo after his brother's death and before he left for Hope's Peak Academy, which is confirmed by the fact that Takemichi became a captive. Mondo was the one who personally confirmed Takemichi as the acting leader of the Crazy Diamonds during his stay at Hope's Peak Academy, showing the level of trust the two had in each other. Mondo mentions Takemichi in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony's non-canon bonus mode, Ultimate Talent Development Plan, while explaining to Kiyotaka that he had to stay up late to talk to his right-hand man who was going through a hard time.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru

Mondo and Kiyotaka didn't get along at first, which wasn't surprising since Kiyotaka was the "ultimate moral compass" while Mondo was the "ultimate biker gang leader." They formed a rivalry, which quickly escalated until the two spent an extended period of time in a high-temperature sauna. This was to show a test of manliness and strength, and whoever gave in would be the inferior man. However, as soon as this event was over, the next morning Mondo and Kiyotaka acted as if they had become inseparable. They laughed together and hugged each other in a “friendly” manner. When Mondo was found guilty at the second trial, the only person who didn't vote him guilty was Kiyotaka, who voted for himself. With this, it seemed like Kiyotaka was willing to have himself and everyone else die before he would let Mondo go. He broke down, crying and screaming, shouting and asking why he did it, clearly devastated that he was losing such a close friend. During the third chapter, when Kiyotaka was talking to Alter Ego, the program changed its appearance and attitude to match Mondo's. Through Mondo's inspiring words, Kiyotaka underwent a self-proclaimed "transformation", in which his and Mondo's "spirit" became one. He began calling himself Kiyondo, which is a culmination of his and Mondo's names.

Relationship
