Boutarou is a tall, muscular Japanese man. He has long dark hair that reaches his knees, distinctive angled eyebrows, sideburns, and long eyelashes. Boutarou's feet measure 36 cm and his hands are webbed between the fingers. He has a typical Abashiri prisoner tattoo on his chest and back. history

Boutarou, originally from Hokkaido, dreamed of being king to create a family that would never leave him, after losing his own to smallpox. Working with timber transport, he became a criminal nicknamed “The Prison Pirate”, responsible for several robberies and murders. In prison, he was tricked by a fellow student, Keiji Ueji, who told him false stories about visits from his aunt. Boutarou later attempted to assassinate Kiichirou Wakayama, a Yakuza leader, but was discovered and released under the belief that the prisoner tattoos he sought were unobtainable. This led him to abandon his pursuit of tattoos and focus solely on gold.

Boutarou is initially seen diving into Lake Shikotsu in search of Ainu gold, while Heita Matsuda watches him. Despite being submerged for a time that makes Heita think he has drowned, Boutarou emerges unharmed. He is later pursued by Sugimoto's Group, who are looking for a Japanese man with strange tattoos. Sugimoto suspects it's Boutarou, but finds out it's not him. Boutarou, in turn, is seen talking to an Ainu man about gold and its origin. Sugimoto's group travels to Sapporo to find Keiji Ueji, and during a stop in the forest, Boutarou approaches Shiraishi. He reveals that he knows that Asirpa is Wilk's daughter due to her blue eyes and tries to convince Shiraishi to join him. Boutarou shows Shiraishi a coin he found, which has a mark similar to his tattoos. When Sugimoto and Asirpa become trapped under fallen trees, Boutarou suggests that Asirpa may be Noppera-bou's daughter and asks woodcutters for help in rescuing them. After they are freed, Asirpa identifies the coin found by Boutarou as an Ainu symbol, representing the Ainu's collective effort and dream of independence. In Sapporo, a fight between Ushiyama and Ueji is broken up by Sugimoto and Boutarou, leading to a temporary truce. The next day, undercover, they look for a serial killer, with Boutarou serving as bait. Before the operation, Boutarou questions Sugimoto about Asirpa and her dreams, expressing his loneliness and desire to understand other people's dreams. The story ends with a fire in a brewery and Boutarou indifferent to Ueji's words.

Swim and hold your breath underwater. Boutarou is an excellent swimmer who has managed to hold his breath for extraordinary long periods of time (30-35 minutes) while submerged at great depths of over 200 meters.
