Sonic is described as being "equal to the wind";[18] a relaxed, free-spirited and adventurous person. He considers freedom as part of everything, living his life his way without obeying the standards presented to him and what he enjoys most is traveling the world,[19][20] never thinking twice about what people tell him. says or thinks.[18] Hardened with a strong passion for life, he is always looking for new experiences, making his life endless adventures. Due to his need to be free, Sonic dislikes being locked up without being able to move, [18] such as in Sonic Adventure 2 where he could not stay calm while locked in a small prison. Likewise, he tends to be overly restless and hates waiting too long, a detail that is represented in his idle animations.

Personality 2

Sonic usually has a calm and relaxed attitude.[18][20] Although sometimes he tends to be impatient and has a short temper [2] [21] Due to his impulsive nature, Sonic hates being bored, becoming reckless and acting before thinking, getting into trouble by accident.[21] Despite that, he is honest and always keeps his promises [2]. Sonic's personality is a combination of kindness and ferocity.[21] He is extremely benevolent and firm about freedom,[18][22] but he is never alone in resting in the face of injustice and oppression. He hates all kinds of evil, [23] [24] becoming very angry and will do everything possible to end it, even if it means sacrificing his own life to achieve it [21]. However, he usually views his heroics as an opportunity to have fun, making him a "thrill-seeker".[18] In times of crisis, his calm personality usually changes to a very aggressive one and when he confronts something or someone, he concentrates intensely on it until he defeats it [2] [20] In addition, Sonic has a big and kind heart, which means that he is always helping his friends when they get into trouble, even knowing that his interference would cause more problems.

Sonic is very confident in himself and has a long ego that marks him, making him someone daring, proud and confident in his abilities. No matter how big the challenge is, he always remains calm.[18] He often makes fun of others to lighten their mood, although this is mostly done to make fun of his opponents. Despite that, when he wants he can also be somewhat gentlemanly and modest. Following his nature of freedom, Sonic never allows bad or painful things that have happened to him before to affect him or stop him. Instead, he prefers to live in the present and always look for a new adventure. Sonic is also incredibly strong-willed: no matter the situation, he will never give up before the day is saved.

Sonic is extremely loyal to his friends and will risk his life for them without hesitation.[2][21] Although he sometimes laughs at them and plays jokes on them, Sonic never does it with the intention of hurting them or making them feel bad. Sonic is always willing to help his friends and always shows them that they can trust him [25]. Regardless of the number of opponents he has, Sonic usually admires them for how strong they are and for giving him a lot of fun, like Dr. Eggman.[26] Likewise, Sonic is recognized for having a remarkable ability to forget what others did to him before, such as when he forgot the two times Silver tried to kill him and later began working with him without any grudge.

Despite his extreme behavior, he is very perceptive than he usually is, being able to change the way of being and thinking of the people he meets, as happened with Elise, Merlina and Blaze. This detail, along with his charismatic personality, make Sonic a person who gets along very well with others, even with his enemies. Sonic is very fond of the beauty of nature and often refers to himself as its protector. He is seen appreciating the landscapes in Sonic Colors and was angry and disgusted when he saw that Eggman was polluting Planet Wisp's environment. In Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic showed an affection for places that have flowers, trees, and other kinds of plants. Despite his fear of water, Sonic also loves going to the ocean.[27]

Sonic enjoys music, especially the rock genre.[3] He also enjoys dancing, especially breakdancing style. In several victory animations, Sonic performs breakdancing steps. His combat moves in Sonic Battle are based on break dancing, as mentioned in the attack descriptions. Sonic tends to get irritated when his enemies often misidentify his species, namely calling him a rat, causing him to correct them and declare that his actual species is a hedgehog. This is demonstrated in his encounters with Erazor Djinn, and to a lesser extent with his encounter with Infinite in Mystic Jungle.
