You have the curse of darkness/terror, how it works is that it depends on how afraid your rival is of you or of something stronger you become, the more darkness there is you also become stronger, and with that darkness you can channel it all into your body to gradually or exponentially enhance your powers, becoming uncontrollable if it is not daytime.
