Setting

The story is set in a hexahedral world referred to as the Six-Faced World. A fantastical world with each side inhabitated by various races: the Dragon World of the Dragon race; the Demon World of the Demon race; the Sky World of the Skyfolks; the Beast World of the Beastfolks; the Sea World of the Seafolks; the Human World of the Human race; there also exists the seventh world - the Void World where nothing exists and is a channel connecting the six worlds. All the five worlds, however, with the exception of the Void World have been destroyed and now only the Human World remains where all the survivors of the other world fled to. As a result, the Human World has been filled with a variety of races with language and culture distinct to region regarding the history of that place.

The Seven World's (1)

Dragon World The Dragon World is the world of dragons ruled by the Dragon God, where the sky and the land are reversed. It was inhabited by a race with enormous power. The Dragon Race were once primitive species who were not able to develop civilization due to their harsh environment and rogue dragons but that soon changed after Human God lent the knowledge of the humans to the Dragon God. The Dragon Race taught inhabitants of the other worlds how to manifest Battle Aura. Demon World The Demon World is the world of demons ruled by the Demon God, full of miasma and noxious mist. It was inhabited races with extraordinary physiques. Similar to the Dragon Race, the Demon Race were once primitive due to their harsh environment where demonic beasts roamed and reliance on their extraordinary bodies, but the world soon changed into an orderly style after the Human God lent the knowledge of the humans to the Demon God. The Demon Race taught inhabitants of the other worlds how to reinforce a weak body in order to use Battle Aura efficiently. Beast World The Beast World is the world of beasts ruled by the Beast God, with dense forests and mountains. It was inhabited by races with keen senses and powerful talons. The Beast Race taught inhabitants of the other worlds how to capture and tame monsters and wild beasts. Ocean World The Ocean World is a world of water ruled by the Ocean God. It was teeming with life, inhabited by races with gills, fins and scales. The Ocean Race taught inhabitants of the other worlds how to purify water and methods of storing it. Sky World The Sky World (天の世界 Ten no Sekai) is a world of rocks floating in the sky ruled by the Sky God. It was inhabited by a winged race who flew freely in the sky. The Sky Race taught inhabitants of the other worlds how to study and predict weather.

The Seven World's (2)

Human World The Human World is a world of flatlands and prairies ruled by the Human God. It is inhabited by a race with weak bodies but brilliant minds. The Human Race taught inhabitants of the other worlds about the importance of reading, writing, communal living, social order et cetera and gave the light of civilization to the races. After the fall of the other five worlds, all the survivors fled to the Human World and settled in their suitable habitats. In this manner, the Human World is now filled with a variety of races. Void World The Void World is a pure white world of nothingness formed when the God of Creation stuck together the six worlds in a die-structure. It later served as the connecting path for moving from one world to another as it is in contact with all the worlds. It is also the channel for summoning and teleport magic. This pocket of space is where Hitogami exists.

Sword God Style

Sword God Style (剣神流, Kenshin-ryū) is one of the three major schools of swordsmanship, and considered to be the strongest. For those of the Sword God Style, their motto is 「Victory goes to he who moves first」. It is a style of swordsmanship that emphasizes speed and aggression, where the main focus is to strike down the opponent first. As a result, many of the practitioners develop to be short-tempered and belligerent. In order to be able to react swiftly, there is discouragement for practitioners to wear heavy armor and instead opt for light clothing for maximum mobility. Given the philosophy of defeating the enemy with a single blow, this style usually renders its users inept at defense and leaving with no counter-attacks. Due to this, Sword God Style practitioners find it difficult to fight a Water God Style practitioner as they are, conversely, adept at defense and countering. Contrarily, this style can overwhelm the North God Style as they mostly rely on the environment to fight. Rankings: Sword God Sword Emperor Sword King Sword Saint Advanced Intermediate Beginner

Water God Style

Water God Style (水神流, Suishin-ryū) is one of the three major schools of swordsmanship. It is a style of swordsmanship that specializes in defensive techniques emphasizing parrying and counter-attacking oncoming attacks. Since there are only a few ways to attack, there is also the art of provocation to make the opponent take the initiative. A skilled practitioner would be able to read the flow of Magic and use their senses to block and counter any attack, including magic and projectiles. The downfall of the Water God Style is that the user cannot attack first while displaying Water God Style techniques, making it weak against North God Style due to their characteristics of sudden-attack, trickeries, and adaptability, which are hard to read. On the other hand, Water God Style is a good match against Sword God Style due to their philosophy of taking the initiative and striking first. Practitioners often wear heavy equipment such as full-body armor, as they do not need to move themselves. This sword style is mostly used by palace knights and nobles, where the job is to protect someone or themselves. Rankings: Water God Water Emperor Water King Water Saint Advanced Intermediate Beginner

North God Style

North God Style (北神流, Hokushin-ryū) is one of the three major schools of swordsmanship. techniques or developing specialties, but rather a method on how to stay alive and approach a battle with the highest chance of winning. It relies heavily on the practitioner's adaptability and usage of one's surroundings. As a result, this style involves using a lot of tricks instead of refined techniques. It is a utilitarian style of swordsmanship that includes non-sword fighting techniques such as first-aid and tracking, as well as the ability to fight while physically deficient. Owing to this, different learning institutions have different approach to battle and practitioners have very disparate fighting styles. The practitioners could be dual-wielding swords, or using non-sword weapons like battleaxes and staves. Due to their style that centers around adaptability of the situation and fighting using tricks, they are a hard counter for Water God Style because of most of their peculiar tricks are hard to parry or counter. While at the same time, this style is weak against Sword God Style due to the latter being a straightforward style that intends to overwhelm opponents before being overwhelmed. Many adventurers and mercenaries learn the North God Style for its versatility that is required on unpredictable battlefields and situations. Battle Aura

Battle Aura (闘気, Tōki, lit. "Fighting Spirit") is a technique used to amplify physical capabilities of the individual to the extreme. Battle Aura, in essence, is a form of Mana manipulation, but different from the flashy effects of Magic invocation as it is invisible to the naked eye. It is specifically used as a technique to explosively boost physical power and physical defence. It involves coating the whole body or a specific body part in Mana and forming a mantle of dense energy. It does not have a specific training regime, an individual will naturally come to understand how to wear Touki the more they train their body. All swordsmen and fighters at or above Saint-class are able to wear Battle Aura. Some use it subconsciously as to why they cannot explain their impermanent outbursts of strength during battle.

Magic

Mana Magic requires an energy source in order to produce its effect in the corporeal world. Mana (魔力, Maryoku, lit. "Magical Power") is the natural energy source for employing and invocation of magic. All living beings existing in the Six-Faced World innately have mana in their body. Souls normally dissipate into mana after death and can get reincorporated into the environment. The only known exception to this is people from outside the Six-Faced World that have been summoned. Summoned people are incapable of holding mana inside their body, thus incapable of using magic. Mana or magical power reserve of a person is generally believed to be inherited and the amount one has is determined at birth. Due to the existence of individuals with the Laplace Factor having enormous amounts of aggregate mana that increased since their birth, they were considered to be the only exception. This is later proved to be incorrect and not linked to the Laplace Factor. All people are capable of increasing their aggregate mana amount by stimulating their mana from a young age. The ability to learn silent spell-casting is also linked to practicing the skill at a young age. History Long before the Great Human-Demon War, the world was engulfed in an unceasing spiral of battle and chaos. During that time, in order to fight their enemies the High Elves race entreated with the spirits of the forests to control natural inorganic elements like the wind and the earth. In this manner, the first magic spells were born. Modern form of magic took its form from humans imitating the spells used by the High Elves in battle and reworking them to convenience. Magic was mostly used only in battle and fending off obstacles. As a result, a large portion of the spells that came to exist are combat spells.

Magic Mechanism (1)

Incantation (詠唱, Eishō), in this method, one recites a set of words to cast a spell. Incantation acts as an activation trigger for spells, where uttering the words would create the effect without having to focus on the Mana coursing through one's body. As such, incantations are much less flexible than silent spell-casting due to a restricted amount of control one has while tuning the magic. Incantations are the common method for casting spells as it is relatively easy to use. A magician typically uses incantations from when they were a beginner all the way to when they became a master. Magic Circle (魔法陣, Mahō-jin) invented by Demon Empress Kirisis Calisis, this method involves one inscribing patterns using a specialized ink or carved patterns to cast a spell. Magic circles cast the inscribed spell at a predetermined power whenever mana is poured into it. Because of this, magic circles have the least flexibility of all spell-casting methods, albeit being the easiest and fastest to use. Depending on the kind of Magic and rank, a Magic Circle's can be larger but its work around is to create multiple layers of Magic Circles on a single plane to achieve a single spell. Earlier, magic circles were widely used until one magician succeeded at greatly shortening incantations. But for the more complex rituals involved in Summoning magic, where greater efficiency wasn't attainable, magic circles remained the primary means. Mixed Magic (混合魔術, Kongō majutsu) or Combined Magic is magic where the caster uses consecutive spells to alter or enhance the effects of a single spell. Spells such as Dry Steaming (Wind and Fire) and Frost Nova (Wind and Water/Ice) are examples of melded magic. Melded magic is exclusive to attack magic; these are familiar and easy to piece together with basic knowledge of science.

Magic Mechanism (2)

Truncated or shortened incantations are very similar to conventional spell-casting; the caster recites a predetermined set of words corresponding the magic they are using. With shortened incantations, cast times and flexibility are drastically improved over conventional casting. The casting of melded magic also becomes much easier due to the reduced downtime between incantations. Silent spell-casting or Incantation-less spell-casting involves the caster manipulating mana itself in order to produce the desired effect. This method, unlike incantation and magic circles, does not require preparation for invocation as the caster only needs strong imaginative power to mold mana to their will. It follows a process the caster calculates in their mind: First, the caster calls forth the shape of the spell they wish to use. Next, there is a window of time where they can add additional magical power to impact its size. Third, the velocity of the spell with which it will travel is adjusted. Finally, the caster releases the finished spell from their hand. Silent spell-casting is a particularly unorthodox method of performing magic for almost no mages are able to completely skip the incantation. Since the process is convoluted and relies heavily on the caster's understanding of the spell, this method of spell-casting is not formally taught anywhere. Though even the most accomplished mages are not capable of this feat, it has been conjectured that this method can be taught during childhood as young minds are more flexible to pre-determined concepts of magic.

Magic Types

Main Category: Attacking Magic (攻撃魔術, Kōgeki majutsu) is comprised of spells that manipulate mana into tangible elements. The power, speed, effective range, and area of these spells are dependent on the amount of mana poured into them. It is divided into four schools: Fire: Generate fire/heat. Water: Generates water and in extension, ice and steam (melded with fire magic). Wind: Manipulates gases. Earth: Generates earth, Manipulates earth and minerals. Healing Magic (治癒魔術, Chiyu majutsu) mainly comprises of spells used for healing injuries and removing toxins. It is further divided into four schools: Healing: Magic for healing injuries. Detoxification: Magic for purging poisons and disease. Divine Strike: Magic used against incorporeal monsters and demons. Protection: Magic for increasing one's defenses and create barriers (distorts mana in a finite space. Effects include nullifying magic activation and altering magic regeneration rate). Summoning Magic (召喚魔術, Shōkan majutsu) is used to call forth powerful beings to carry out the summoners's bidding. It has two types of summons: Fiends: A class of beast that have intellect. Spirits: An intelligent being called forth to reside in an artificial body, has been stated to be much akin to Mana Programming. Special Category Inherent Magic (固有魔術, Koyū majutsu), is a magic of race secret with a special activation method. Howling (Otherwise called "Voice Magic") Teleport Gravity Manipulation Time Travel Hypnosis Magic Disruption (Ran Ma) Reincarnation Divination Temporary Soul Summoning (Used only by Human God)

Magic Ranking

Beginner/Elementary - Basic mana manipulation. Intermediate - Advanced mana manipulation. Advanced - Complex mana manipulation. Generally large area of effect. Saintly/Holy - Large scale complex mana manipulation. Usually spells that affects the weather. Kingly - Builds upon Saint-class Magic by increasing its effectiveness. Imperial/Emperor - Further enhances the scale of King-class Magic Divine/God - Continental scale magic Spell rankings are typically proportionate to the amount of mana necessary to cast the spell. There are exceptions however, such as the Dragon God. It has been stated that only 1 in 20 people is born with the capacity of using mana and of those, only 1 in 20 is capable of learning how to master it and becoming a mage. However, only 1 in a 100 of those is actually capable of becoming an advanced magician in only 1 element. The magician's ranking title is determined by the most advanced spell s/he could cast.

Magic Disease's

Since the Human-Demon Wars, there are also several magic related diseases that are known to exist and in time the denizens of the Human World became immune to it or a way to treat them has been discovered. Magic Stone Disease Magic Stone Disease is an extremely rare magical virus that turns that kills its host by gradually turning it to a purple magic stone starting from their feet and eventual death upon reaching half of their body at the very least. Drain Syndrome Drain Syndrome is a magical illness first found in Humans from the early ages into the Laplace Wars that affects a child born with out any magic capacity who absorbs magic externally and after accumulating it for 10 years, they will fall ill and die.

Magic Trivia

The number of magicians capable of using shortened or silent spell-casting are very few because the method was previously unknown. It is stated by 'Someone' that, "Magic in this world is omnipotent. Once you realize that, you can essentially do anything." Many attack magics function by converting mana into physical substances. It appears that the materials manifested take a while to stabilize, as evidenced by the fact that projectiles from attack magic can be disintegrated by using manatite stone.

Races (1)

There are a variety of races exist in the Six-Faced World, the setting where Mushoku Tensei takes place. Around 20,000 to 10,000 years ago, the War of the Gods resulted in the the fall of the other five worlds and all the survivors fled to the Human World and settled in their suitable habitats. Consequently, the Human World is now populated by multiple Races. Humans (人族, Jinzoku) are the most dominant race in the world. They are the majority race in the Central Continent, Begaritt Continent and Millis Continent. Humans on the Central Continent and Millis Continent speaks Human Tongue with slightly differing accents, whereas humans on Begaritt Continent speaks Fighting God tongue. Elves (長耳族, Erufu, lit. "Long Ear Tribe") are a race of people who currently live in the southern part of the Great Forest in the Millis Continent. They are sometimes classified as demon race, but it was possible that they are new species that developed during the Chaotic Period. As their name implies, their most prominent physical characteristic is their long and pointy ears, which provides them with very good hearing ability. Other than that, they usually have a slim body, whereas female elves tend to be flat-chested. Their fertility is rather low, but they have very long lifespans, capable of staying in their prime for hundreds of years. They also have a very good sense of direction, able to navigate effortlessly even in difficult terrains like the Great Forest and deserts. It is said that magic was originally created by the High Elves, the ancestors of Elves. Long before even the Great Human-Demon War, when the world was engulfed in the unceasing spiral of battle and chaos, the High Elves, in order to fight their enemies, entreated with the spirits of the forests to control the wind and the earth. And thus, the first magic spells were born.

Races (2)

Dwarves (炭鉱族, Dowaafu, lit. "Coal Mine Tribe") are a race of people who currently live at the foot of the Blue Dragon Mountain Range in the Millis Continent. They are sometimes classified as demon race, but it was possible that they are new species that developed during the Chaotic Period. Dwarves are short in height: male dwarves have a stout build, whereas female dwarves are similar to young human females. They love alcohol and are highly tolerant against it. Their lifespan is longer of humans, capable of living for at least several hundred years. As a race of craftsmen and blacksmiths by birth, dwarves have naturally dexterous hands and high affinity towards earth and fire magic, but abhorred water and wind magic. They are adept in crafting weapons, armors and various arts, and the best craftsman would have the chance to ascend as the Ore God. Culture wise, dwarves would raise all children of the same generation together, and they would treat each other as siblings. They won't get an official name until they are seven, and when they do, they receive a name that's fashioned after something they're good at, something they're attracted to, or something they like. Hobbits (小人族, Hobitto, lit. "Small People Tribe") are a race of people who currently live in the southern part of the Great Forest in the Millis Continent. They are sometimes classified as demon race, but it was possible that they are new species that developed during the Chaotic Period. They are small in stature and look like human children.

Races (3)

Dragon Race (龍族, Ryuzoku) are the original inhabitants of the Dragon World, and the strongest of all races in terms of fundamental physical capabilities. They have wings, powerful talons and tough scales, and are the first race that could wield battle aura effectively. They could live for more than a hundred thousand years, thus they only have children every several thousand years. After the fall of the five remaining worlds, most of the dragon race perished with the Dragon World, whereas many of the remaining members escaped to the Human World were killed by other races as an act of vengeance. As a result, very few dragon race members remain in the present days. Demon Race (魔族, Mazoku) are the original inhabitants of the Demon World. The classification of Demon Race are less specific during recent times, and it became the umbrella term for the races sided with Kishirika during the Great Human-Demon Wars. As a result, some races originally belonging to Beast Race are also categorized as Demon Race. There are a significant number of species, with very diverse range of physiology, abilities, and lifespan. Most Demon Race are bipedal humanoids that are radically different in appearance when compared to humans, but there are a few exceptions. Their primary language is Demon God Tongue. There are some exceptionally powerful individuals among the Demon Race that become rulers of a certain region, which are known as Demon Kings (魔王, Maou). The one stood on top of all of them is the Demon Empress Kishirika Kishirisu. Migurds are one of a Demon Races that resemble humans the most. Adult Migurds have the appearance of teenage humans with blue hair and eyes. They have a lifespan of around 200 years, and would retain their look as human teenagers until about 150 years old. Their special ability is to communicate with their kind via telepathy.

Races (4)

Superds are a tribal race of warriors from the Demon Continent. Adult Superds look very similar to humans, except for their pale skin, green hair, and red gem (third eye) on their forehead that allows them to detect living beings and the flow of mana. They are born with a forked tail, which hardens and falls off to become their trident spear as they grow up. Due to the tales of their fearsome rampage without distinguishing ally from enemy during the Laplace War four hundred years ago, they are loathed and feared by all races. As a result, they are heavily discriminated, whereas green hair and spears are regarded as bad omen. They are currently almost extinct, with the only known surviving group living in a forest in the Biheiril Kingdom. The Immortal Demon Race are descendants of the First Demon God. Males have jet black skin and six arms while females only have two arms. Their most prominent traits are their Demon Eye and immortality that allows them to regenerate after their bodies are destroyed, but temporarily causing their bodies to shrink before the flesh is reassembled. They could even revive themselves after being completely obliterated, but this process would take thousands of years. Currently only the Dragon Race know the method to kill them permanently. Heaven Race (天族, Tenzoku) are the original inhabitants of the Sky World. They have the appearance of humans with a pair of wings and are capable of flight, while having lifespan of at least a few hundred years. Most of them are currently residing on the Divine Continent, and their towns are protected by magical barriers. They used to be hostile towards the Demon Race during the Second Great Human-Demon War, but they're currently indifferent. Since they didn't participate in the Laplace War, they don't have the taboo against Superds and have no problem in using spears. Their primary language is Sky God Tongue.

Races (5)

Beast Race (兽族, Juuzoku) are the original inhabitants of the Beast World. After the death of the First Beast God Pudoria Dordia at the hands of the First Dragon God and the ensuing destruction of the Beast World, the surviving Beast Race were gathered by the Human God to live in the Human World and they settled in the place now known as the Great Forest. Their primary language is Beast God Tongue. The Beast Race are similar to the Human Race in appearance, with the difference of having traits of other mammals on their body. Their lifespan is also similar to humans, while their physical capabilities are slightly superior. They are capable of using a unique magic called Howling, which allows them to infuse their voice with magic to perform echolocation or incapacitate their enemies. They also possess an enhanced sense of smell that could identify the faint scent of different people, or even the smell of arousal. However, their enhanced sense of smell is also their weakness, making them prone to being disabled by strong scents or smokes. The Beast Race enter their mating season during autumn, in which they become restless and aroused. During the season, they would duel against members of the opposite sex in their favor, and the winner would become the dominant one in their relationship and subsequent marriage. Doldia Tribe 5,500 years ago, humans declared war on all other races after enslaving the demon race. In response towards the human invasion, Beast God Giger rallied the Beast Race to defend the Great Forest. The Doldia tribe descended from Giger became the royalty equivalent of the Great Forest and the guardian of the Sacred Beast. Currently there are two branches of Doldia tribe: the Dedoldia tribe with feline traits, and the Adoldia tribe with canine traits.

Seven Great Power's

Seven Great Powers (七大列強, Nana Dai-Rekkyō) refers to the seven strongest warriors in the world, a selection of seven people that came to exist following the end of the Second Human-Demon War. Establishment When the Second Great Human-Demon War came to a conclusion, a person known as the Technique God came up with the name. At that time, Technique God was considered to be one of the strongest people in the world. Technique God selected six more people and declared them to be the strongest in the world. Post-Laplace War The title of the Seven Great Powers was well known until the Laplace War. All original Seven Powers participated in the Laplace War, with the exception of Technique God. Among them, three were killed, one went missing, and another was sealed away. The Dragon God was the only one who came out of the War with a definite living-status. After hundred of years, with those at the bottom swapping spots and the top four having unknown status to the people, the title fell out of use. In order to spread the name of the seven strongest across the world, stone monuments were scattered around the world in places where mana concentration was high. The monument is of knee-height and a single character "7" is inscribed at the middle in the Fighting God language. The seven respective motifs of the Great Power surround the "7" character starting with the rank one motif being situated above the "7" character then sequentially going clockwise are the rest of the Great Power's motif. The stone automatically updates itself when a new Power enters the ranks with their respective motif. 1st: Technique God Laplace (Dragon Side) - Missing 2nd: Dragon God Orsted - Active 3rd: Fighting God Badigadi - Missing 4th: (Magic) Demon God Laplace (Demon Side) - Inactive/Sealed 5th: Death God Randolph Marianne - Active 6th: Sword God Gal Farion - Active 7th: North God Kalman III - Active
