Ryunosuke Akutagawa

Appearance:

Akutagawa has a slim build and very pale skin. He has short, black hair. Two longer strands frame his face on the sides. Closer to the tips, they change their color from black to dirty white. The bangs are short and almost completely open the forehead. Akutagawa has deep-set, narrow eyes. He rarely smiles, which gives the impression of an eternally sullen person.

Background

Ryunosuke and his younger sister, Gin Akutagawa, were orphans and lived in a slum with about eight other children. By the grace of the slums and their disgusting air, Akutagawa's lungs suffered, causing his health to deteriorate. Other children overheard a conversation about the time and place of delivery of the cargo that the Port Mafia was supposed to deliver to low-level subordinates. The men knew about this and tracked down the children, beating to death all except Gin and Akutagawa, who managed to escape. Fulfilling a promise made to his comrades, Akutagawa went to the place where the deal was said to have taken place in order to take revenge on the people who killed his comrades. When he reached the place, all six men were dead on Dazai's orders—as a gift to Akutagawa, whom he wanted to take over. He offered either to join him as an apprentice, or to give Akutagawa and his sister enough money so that they would never have to worry about poverty again. In a fit of rage and grief, Akutagawa joined Port Mafia, overcome by someone else's sense of respect that he felt for Dazai.
