biography:

Tsukumo was born as the fifth leader of the decadent Fujimiya sorcerer family. In 1943 when she was 15 years old, her family participated in the Holy Grail War of the time, but was eliminated by the Japanese army and she was the only survivor. When she was 17 years old in 1945, Tsukumo was contacted by a member of the Church who explained that a Holy Grail War took place two years ago in the imperial capital of Tokyo, but the grail and the Servants mysteriously disappeared. Now, the war is starting again and the Church wants to hire her to fight as their representative. She sets two conditions: that she be granted Avalon as a catalyst to invoke knowledge, and that she be allowed to use the wish if she wins. The Church agrees to these conditions, although, unbeknownst to her at the time, she is given a replica of Avalon instead of the original. As she prepares to go to Tokyo, the Church member asks her what she wants, to which she replies that she would like a bright future. At some point, Tsukumo manages to summon Saber on the train and becomes her master, facing and defeating the "Ghost of Tosa" together with a command spell. During the war, Tsukumo visits his destroyed home and promises his deceased family that he will win the war. She survives both World War II and the Holy Grail War, and eventually has a son who is incapable of using sorcery. Around 2003, Tsukumo becomes a grandmother with the birth of Kanata. On one occasion he played with his grandson Kanata and asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. He couldn't answer and returned the question to her. Tsukumo told him that he was old, but he still dreamed of a bright future. She finally dies in 2009 at the age of 81, when Kanata was six, estranged from her entire family.
