History.

Newton Artemis Fido "Newt" Scamander was born on February 24, 1897 somewhere in England[1]. It is known that he had an older brother named Theseus Scamander. He developed an interest in magical creatures at an early age, as his mother raised hippogriffs. At age seven, Scamander regularly dismembered Horklumps in his room. Before beginning to study, Newt acquired his first wand, probably from Ollivander's. Around 1908, he attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he was sorted into Hufflepuff House on September 1.[9] He developed a friendship with Leta Lestrange, a fellow student with whom he shared an interest in magical creatures and feelings of feeling left out. Their friendship began in 1910 when, at age 13, Leta escaped from two girls who were making fun of her and Professor McGonagall and hid in a small room in the castle. Newt was there taking care of a crow, a baby crow. He said he was going to stay during the school holidays to take care of the crow, and Leta (who already knew him as they were students in the same year), saw him as he was for the first time. Newt attended Professor Albus Dumbledore's class on Boggarts. Newt's Boggart took the form of an office desk, as Newt feared the idea of being forced to work in an office in the future. By casting the riddukulus spell, he transformed the desk into a mechanical dragon, for which Professor Dumbledore praised him. He later comforted Leta when she was disheartened by her own Boggart, who had shown himself to be her half-brother drowning in the sea, Corvus Lestrange. By then, Newt had befriended the Bowtruckles on the school grounds on Bowtruckle Island and had gained their trust. He was the only one they didn't hide from and Newt took advantage of it to study them. Newt once received a month's detention for telling a Hogwarts professor named Prendergast that "there are no strange creatures, only blind people," when the latter harshly questioned his interest in magical creatures.

Personality and character

Scamander was a dedicated individual who tirelessly sought new information for his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,[3] even when he was supposedly retired.[17] Considered an authority in the field of Magizoology, his works were respected throughout the magical community.[3] Newton was described as eccentric and felt more comfortable around creatures than humans, probably due to the adventures he had with a large number of them.[18] Taking into account his attitude in the movie (bad liar, he likes being with animals more than people and difficulty looking in the eyes), it is possible that he has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Pickett, the creature that always goes on the lapel of Newt Scamander's coat, is a Bowtruckle. These stick insect-like beings live in trees. He always accompanies Newt in his pocket, he is shy and loyal. On the other hand, his personality is usually calm, bordering on shyness and being solitary when spending more time with his animals. He is an intelligent magician who knows how to defend himself, however his personality is totally passive and patient.

It is unclear whether or not the expulsion was enforced, or whether it was temporary or permanent. However, Newt was allowed to keep his wand.

Family

Newt's confident, successful, and worldly older brother was, in many ways, the polar opposite of Newt himself, and the two have a very complex relationship. The relationship between the two as children is unknown, but the fact that they chose different career paths is a clue that their differences date back to childhood. Newt resented Theseus for winning the love of his life, Leta Lestrange, but at the same time he is not openly hostile towards him.
