TRIVIA:

This version of Super Sonic appears to have inspired the evil Super Sonic from Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog, who was temporarily incarnated from that continuity's Sonic with Thoraxia's red Chaos Emeralds. This evil Super Sonic has a personality and powers similar to Super Sonic in Sonic the Comic. In Super Sonic's first appearance, his spikes remained pointing downwards after his transformation. In later appearances, his quills were depicted pointing upwards to be consistent with in-game appearances of him.

HISTORY:

Pre-Comic Appearances: The first time Sonic transformed into Super Sonic was after the events of the first game. After the 6 emeralds were collected, they were taken to the Freedom Fighters headquarters. Due to the extreme cold of the place, the emeralds became destabilized and radiated chaos energy. As a result, a spatial distortion was generated that sent them to the Special Zone. At that moment Sonic absorbed part of the chaos energy released, transforming into Super Sonic. Some time later (presumably in the events of the second game) Tails watched as Sonic transformed into Super Sonic after absorbing energy from Mobius' golden rings, which were being used by Doctor Ovi Knitbor to channel the negative energy of the emeralds. Appearances within the Comic: The first appearance within the comic was in Oil Ocean when Sonic and Tails helped clean said area. An Aquis-type Badnik tried to burn Sonic by taking him to an oil trap, but this failed and without the need for the chaos emeralds Sonic transformed into Super. Some time later, Sonic revealed that he had actually absorbed so much energy throughout his travels that he could harness Chaos Power to transform whenever he was stressed or extremely angry.
