Persona Attributes
next secret cryptid scientist
Zak Saturday is the son of Drew Saturday and Doc Saturday, and the most recent reincarnation of the cryptid Kur appearance Zak is of slim build and has an average height and weight for his age. He has either a sweet smile or a cocky smile throughout the series. Zak has black hair and dark brown skin from his African-American father, but Caucasian features and a mop of white blonde hair from his mother. His clothing consists of yellow sweatpants, an orange shirt with an "S" on the front (resembling a distorted silhouette of The Claw), and a black undershirt. He was shown to wear white boxers with gray hearts. In TGIS, it looks almost the same as before. He maintains his graying hairstyle and skin tone. However, her hair is longer and she also sports three freckles on each cheek. On top of that, he now wears the same armor as his parents. He is also significantly higher in personality. At the beginning of the series, Zak is sometimes seen as reckless and irresponsible, but this is partly because he believes that his parents are spoiling him and therefore tries to prove himself. A product of his environment, Zak seeks adventure at all times, which his family of cryptid researchers easily satisfies. He has an unorthodox upbringing that has taken him all over the world and put him in danger since the day he was born. He is very compassionate and family-oriented, and cares about the cryptids and his family. He has always felt close to the cryptids, as seen when he comforts Fiskerton as he adjusts to life with the Sabbaths, protecting him from Komodo and welcoming Zon, as well as freeing numerous cryptids in Cryptids Vs. Cryptids, and risking his own safety to help another cryptid in The Unblinking Eye. He would do anything to protect his family. His intelligence and wit are shown throughout the series, along with his quick reflexes.
He is also a capable strategist, managing to fend off Tsul 'Kalu without a scratch or permanent damage, something Doc attempted, only to return with a blind eye. After learning that he is Kur, Zak lost confidence in himself and began to think and fear that he might turn to the side of evil. He suffered a severe blow to his self-esteem, calling himself a monster and insisting that his family would be safer if he weren't around to put them in danger. He is also quick to make friends, as he did with Ulraj and Wadi, or at least find common ground between them, as he did with Francis and Tsul 'Kalu. Zak was born the same year the Kur Stone was found, eleven years before the events of The Kur Stone: Part One. Drew was pregnant with him when they unearthed the Stone. Around the age of four or five, Zak's family rescued and adopted Fiskerton. Zak joined him immediately and offered to let Fisk stay in his room. He introduced Komodo slowly to Fisk, so as not to scare him, and took the blame with Doc when Fisk accidentally broke Zak's bed. His words, "We are brothers now. No matter what," have stuck with Fisk ever since. Having adopted Fisk, Zak is playing with him near the Judaculla Rocks in the Smoky Mountains some time later. He accidentally destroys the sacred site, angering the area's protector, Tsul 'Kalu. While Doc distracts him, Fiskerton takes Zak to the airship and they escape. Zak is unaware of what happens next, only knowing that Doc ends up with the Hand of Tsul 'Kalu. They tell him that Doc lost his eye in an "accident." In The Cannibal Curse it was discovered that Zak has a special psychic ability to connect with cryptids, allowing him to control their actions to a certain extent, as well as communicate psychically in their minds. The most docile cryptids seem to trust him instinctively.
They seem to trust him instinctively, and the even fiercer ones can tell that Zak is different from other humans. His parents believe that with Zak's ability, he would be the only one with the power to stop Kur, a legendary cryptid who is said to be able to control all cryptids. The ancient artifacts seem to respond to Zak and allow him to amplify his ability. Zak's main weapon is The Claw, a combination of short staff and grappling hook. The hook is a three-fingered claw called The Hand of Tsul 'Kalu that acts as a focusing device for Zak's powers, and a likely Thunderbird claw due to Tsul 'Kalu surprising Doc with it in the episode's flashback. of the Return of Tsul 'Kalu. . His power can be amplified if Zak is in a "mystical hotspot", a place filled with magical energy, such as the interior of the Antarctic cryptid. After using his power on a mystical hotspot, he becomes depleted and possibly exhausted. He also appears to have the ability to create a wind-like aura around his body in Cryptid vs. Cryptid and an orange energy ball in Kur Rising Zak can control his powers with great concentration. In The Atlas Pin, meditate with Drew and Fisk to stop Kumari Kandam's giant snake. In Shadows of Lemuria, when he is very close to the revealer and the relic, he could get into Fisk's brain and get rid of the parasite. In The King of Kumari Kandam there is the Royal Medallion of Kumari Kandam, which had these lyrics: "Before the breath of Kur the sentinels will fall." If that thing really has a part of Kur, it could make Zak even stronger as Zak now cares deeply for his cryptic "pets"/companions and even refers to them as his brothers and sisters. This corresponds to his bond with the cryptids and possibly influences his cryptid powers. Zak also appears to be stronger than a normal boy his age,
as he is able to scale a radio tower carrying a grown man in The Vengence of Hibagon and gets back up immediately after being thrown into a vent in Black Monday. Over the course of the show, his strength has improved. Also in Black Monday, Zak is able to hold his own against the three Monday cryptids and even throws Zon to the ground in the second episode, The Kur Stone: Part Two. No one was a physical match for him. In Ghost in the Machine, Zak also merged with his brothers thanks to a machine created by ancient scientists in a laboratory on Honey Island. Because of this, he temporarily gains the abilities of Fiskerton and Komodo. This version of Zak has trouble thinking due to having three brains. After this experience, Zak says the three have become even closer and are now "DNA brothers." The machine was later destroyed by the Saturdays. In The Kur Guardian, Zak, Doyle, and their former nanny, Abbey Gray, help Fiskerton discover more about Fisk's Lemurian heritage. Doyle and Fisk had kept the information a secret at first, but decided to share it with Zak because Zak is the only one Fisk trusts completely (Doyle learned of Rani Naga's information when he overheard her talking to VV Argost when he and the Saturdays were rescuing Fisk from Weird World) In Shadows of Lemuria, Zak discovers that Fisk is making trident-like shapes at every available moment. Fiskerton tells Zak that he kept it a secret because "he's scared for him." Later, Argost smuggles a neural parasite into the Saturday House, which eventually lands on Fiskerton. Fisk destroys the house to create a divination rod that will reveal where Kur is, which turns out to be Antarctica that Argost discovered through the Parasite. Even though the crazy VV Argost is his enemy, before Kur Rising, Zak was a fan of his show Weird World and kept
Weird World and saved episodes to the main computer. In the first season finale, Zak and his family go to Antarctica. Unfortunately for them, Argost is also there and has awakened the creature believed to be Kur. Argost manages to reach the beast's brain and controls it from within. Zak then comes up with the idea to also enter the cryptid's body and fight Argost for control of "Kur". His parents give him their weapons so that he can have as much power as possible in the battle against Argost. Fiskerton follows Zak inside and helps him in the fight. Zak harnesses all his power to defeat Argost and knocks the Antarctic cryptid unconscious. Doyle then uses the Naga Kur detector to confirm that what they just defeated is Kur. However, once Zak and Fiskerton are expelled from the body, the artifact glows not in the creature's presence, but in Zak's presence. Everyone, including Zak, is shocked by this as it is revealed that he is Kur reincarnated. The secret scientists discovered at some point that Zak is Kur. The family soon becomes fugitives. As the secret scientists follow him, Zak realizes that his family is in danger. To make matters worse, the Nagas also seek Zak to guide them and all the cryptids into a new era. Meanwhile, Doyle has a run-in with Leonidas Van Rook. In Legion of Garuda, the Saturdays discover that a sect of sorcerers were able to expel Kur's spirit in the past and begin searching for the group. They finally meet Gokul, the head of the legion, who tells them that Kur can be driven out using an artifact known as the Flute of Gilgamesh. It turns out that the Nagas stole the flute centuries ago to protect Kur. But when the Saturdays locate the flute and let Gokul use it, they also discover that using it would kill Kur (Zak). Saturdays, Secret Scientists and Nagas Save Zak
and the sorcerer disappears. When everyone leaves, Argost arrives where they had left the flute and takes it. In The Return of Tsul 'Kalu, Zak goes to fight Tsul 'Kalu, after returning to obtain the Hand of the End of Zak's Claw. Zak hands over the Hand easily, but Tsul 'Kalu rejects it, wishing to fight honorably for it as a hunter. Zak then begins to have visions of the dark future, whenever he uses his powers on Tsul 'Kalu. In the end, Zak realizes that these visions were not his, but the hunter's fears. Zak hands over the Claw and says Tsul 'Kalu should get it back because if even the good cryptids think he's destined for evil, he obviously doesn't deserve it. But then Tsul 'Kalu realizes that Zak is good on the inside, leaves the Claw and separates from him. In The Unblinking Eye, Zak is pursued by Epsilon and Francis to be recruited by their "people". When he easily escaped them for the first time, Zak convinces his parents to help a cryptid like they normally do. They track a monster from Lake Van in Istanbul, in a power plant. Soon the people of Epsilon track down Zak and begin wildly chasing him. Francis catches Zak, but unknowingly reveals that a satellite is tracking his every move (later revealed to be the Rani Naga relic that the "people" stole from Doyle tied to a satellite). Doc and Drew go into space to disconnect the satellite, while Fisk, Komodo, and Zak calm down the Lake Van monster. Francis finds them and gets into a family dispute with Zak. Francis suddenly shouts that Epsilon is not his father. Zak suddenly takes pity on him, after realizing that Francis and Epsilon are clones. After a short time, Zak claims that the Lake Van Monster doesn't care about labels, and Francis decides to let him go, hinting that there could be a spurred friendship between them... despite their "goodbyes"
It was Francis saying "I guess it's a good thing we hate each other so much, huh?" and Zak responded with a smile, "I never want to see you again either, Francis." In Life in the Underground, Zak's birthday party is full of surprises, including a visit from Ulraj and Wadi. On Saturdays they discover that a town is being attacked by cryptids. When they come to investigate on Saturdays they are attacked by some Kalabus. Zak, Wadi and Ulraj go underground with the cryptids and cause a rockfall. Zak, Wadi and Ulraj were being buried alive, Zak remembered Argost's words and managed to summon one of the cryptids to save them. Zak realizes that he can control the cryptids no matter the distance between him and them. They discover that the cryptids were forming a survival colony to save themselves from Kur. Zak's infatuation with Wadi and hers with him is more obvious in this episode; On the one hand, Wadi kisses Zak on the cheek. Zak returns to the clock tower to thank Argost, who then gives Zak a neural parasite to contact him with if necessary despite Fisk's objections. In And Your Enemies Closer, Zak is asked to remove a strange cryptid from Dr. Beeman's laboratory. In exchange, the Secret Scientists will stop pursuing him for six months. Unfortunately, the shape-shifting cryptid appears to be immune to Zak's powers. Zak secretly places a neural parasite on Fisk's back to establish contact with Argost. He then asks how to stop it, and Argost helps him by explaining that the cryptid has to be in a certain area where it can only use one form. Zak then lures the creature into a pond and is able to control it, long enough for Fisk (under Argost's control) to seal the pond. But while Zak explains his actions to Doc and the scientists, Komodo discovers the parasite on Fiskerton's back. Paul Cheech
to establish contact with Argost. Paul Cheechoo assumes Zak knew all along. Before Zak could explain everything, Argost's warship appears, and Arghost forces Zak to leave on it, leaving everyone else bewildered and shocked. Argost releases a gas that renders Zak unconscious. He later wakes up in a Munya cocoon on what Argost calls the most isolated island in the world. After seeing Argost use the smoke mirror to summon Zak Monday, Argost uses the Flute of Gilgamesh to steal Zak Monday's power, thus killing Zak Monday in the process. Zak Saturday uses his power to control Munya and free himself to fight Argost, who try to control Munya as a weapon.
Unfortunately, Argost gets the upper hand and is about to finish him off when suddenly Tsul 'Kalu, Fiskerton, Komodo, and Doc arrive just in time to help Zak. Argost and Munya escape to prepare for the possible destruction of the world. Once Argost leaves, Doc says that Fiskerton has explained everything to him about why he got help from Argost. Luckily, Doc still trusts and loves Zak, and says he was only worried about his safety. The episode ends with Doc gently telling Zak that there's still a lot more to explain about why he trusted Argost. Zak responds by saying, "First we need an army of our own." In The Cryptid War, he shows mastery of his power, controlling large numbers of cryptids around the world. He later made a deal with Argost to stop all fighting. Unfortunately, after Van Rook's death, the "Kur" is sucked out of him by Argost, who is then apparently completely destroyed by fusing Matter and Antimatter, which eventually makes him normal, but that was temporary. Zak is officially "dead" for 3 minutes, but ends up surviving thanks to his parents. Zak still has his powers, albeit in a weaker form, probably because he is still recovering.
Doc Saturday is Zak's father. In terms of parenting style, he has always been more forgiving than Drew, such as when he was willing to talk about Zak helping them in fights or using his own Cortex Disruptor. His willingness to let Zak fight stems from a desire to keep Zak safe. Zak and Doc spar frequently, and Zak even wins notably often. Doc is who Zak seems to get most of his moves and fighting style from. Although Doc is less strict than Drew, he hopes that Zak can act appropriately in dangerous situations and take them seriously. When he raises his voice, Zak listens and shows him respect. The more casual dynamic they have in low-stress situations doesn't take away from Doc's authority as a father. Drew Saturday is Zak's mother. She tends to be much stricter than Doc, often wanting Zak to stay somewhere safe and outright rejecting the idea of giving him weapons. Although Zak can be pushy, he respects her answers on the matter. When Zak is in danger, Drew becomes very overprotective, such as when she shot Zon from the sky in The Kur Stone: Part Two for trying to fly with him, or how she immediately tried to shoot and kill Argost in War of. the Cryptids for trying to get Zak to surrender to him. Zak resents this tendency, as he always does when he thinks he is treated like a child, but it has saved his life once or twice. Drew and Zak also tend to be more openly affectionate with each other, frequently touching or hugging. Drew still considers Zak his "baby" and often points to his age as a reason why he shouldn't fight. She probably won't stop being overprotective anytime soon.
Fiskerton Saturday is Zak's adoptive brother and best friend. Zak trusts Fisk in a way he trusts no one else, and the opposite is true as well. They met when Zak was very little, only four or five years old. Zak immediately welcomed Fisk into the family with open arms, helping him feel comfortable in Komodo and covering for Doc when it looked like Fisk might get into trouble. At first, he was very skittish and prone to running away at any loud noise, but Zak helped Fisk relax and open up, learning to trust again. Throughout the series, Fisk and Zak often drag each other into all sorts of mischief and schemes, often failing to take the blame or blaming each other, depending on how angry their parents are. They have a lot of fun together and Fisk is almost always glued to Zak's side. He is the only one who knows about Zak's deal with Argost for the entire duration. Fisk also tends to be overprotective, which annoys Zak, especially when it interferes with helping the rest of his family. Despite Fisk's great love for his brother, he becomes jealous and feels ignored when his parents begin to become overly obsessed with Zak's safety over that of others. He also internalizes this mentality, believing that Zak is more important than him and sacrificing himself or putting himself in danger to save his brother. Zak does the same with Fisk, often putting himself between Fisk and an attacker. It's safe to say they would die for each other. There is no one else in the world they trust more than each other.
Komodo Saturday is Zak's adopted brother and in terms of behavior, he seems like the older brother. It is unknown how Komodo joined the Saturday family, but he was there before Fiskerton and Zak is very familiar with Komodo even in flashbacks, so it is likely that Komodo has been around since Zak was born, or possibly even before. Zak appears to be the only family member that Komodo is affectionate towards, as he is often sarcastic towards Fisk or dismissive towards Doc and Drew. He will hug Zak and lick his face, like a dog would. He has also been shown to sleep at the foot of Zak's bed. Whether because of his status as a Kur or because he has known Komodo for most of his life, Zak can understand his brother with little effort, even when he doesn't make a sound. This mutual understanding could be another reason why Komodo favors Zak over the rest of the family. Zak also seems to have a special respect for Komodo, sometimes communicating with him only through body language or gestures.
Zon Saturday is Zak's adopted sister and the newest addition to the Saturday family. Unlike Fisk and Komodo, who have spent about a decade living with the Saturday family, she is still new to domestication and tends to act more "animalistic" than Fisk and Komodo, although that does not make her any less intelligent. She is especially fond of Zak, possibly because she left her mark on him after his nest was destroyed by the airship on Saturday when they first met her. While the rest of the family is important to Zon, she has a special relationship with Zak. He is the only member of the family who has been seen hugging. Likewise, Zak is very different with Zon than he is with Komodo or Fisk, often rewarding her for a job well done with the fish and frequently petting and cooing at her. Zak is also very protective of her, almost like a father could be. As shown in the episode Bride of the Underworld, he becomes agitated when he thinks she is being treated poorly and shows visible distress at the thought of never seeing her again. Zak will often send Zon flying in fights or if he needs to get close to a cryptid without risk of being attacked. She comes when he calls her with a whistle and seems to only obey his orders. They are very in sync, as Zon almost never needs vocal cues from Zak. As far as sibling bonds go, they have become very close in a relatively short period of time.
Doyle Blackwell is Zak's maternal uncle and, in many ways, his role model. As shown in The Ice Caverns of Ellef Ringnes, Zak thought Doyle was "the coolest guy he had ever met" before learning that Doyle was his uncle. Even though Doyle was working for Van Rook at the time, Zak was nothing but excited at the idea of having a long-lost uncle. At the end of the episode Van Rook's Apprentice, Zak still trusted Doyle, forgiving his apparent betrayal even if the rest of his family did not. As Doyle was about to leave, Zak said, "We all make mistakes, but we have to forgive each other. That's part of being a family." This convinces Doyle to stay. Although Doyle doesn't have much experience with having a family or being a team player, he has a soft spot for Zak. Doyle likes Zak's reckless and daring nature, although he is still mindful of Zak's safety and general well-being. He often stays behind to help Zak in fights or uses his jetpack to get Zak out of danger. Doyle isn't a good role model, but that doesn't stop Zak from wanting to impress him or be like him. Zak is always happy to see Doyle. It doesn't mean that Zak is above criticizing Doyle or admitting when he's done something wrong, as in The Owlman Feeds at Midnight or The Kur Guardian, but he is much more forgiving and understanding of these things than his parents. Like the rest of the family, Doyle wants to protect Zak at all costs, but their kinship seems to come from Doyle's lax attitude, protecting Zak without coddling or belittling him. Doyle trusts Zak completely and the feeling is mutual.
Wadi is Zak's friend and also his crush. When he first met her in Eterno, Wadi was stealing her family's car, so he obviously didn't think too favorably of her. After helping each other cure salt spreading water in the Middle East, Zak considers Wadi a friend. The next time Zak and Wadi see each other, in Curse of the Stolen Tiger, they have developed a bit of a rivalry and a crush on each other. Zak vehemently denies it. She recognizes that Wadi is skilled at what she does, hence his desire to outdo her and, of course, impress her. In the end, he looks like a fool in front of her anyway. It takes about another year and a half for Zak and Wadi to meet again. By the time Life in the Underground arrives, Zak is thirteen years old and has apparently come to terms with his crush on Wadi. He gets excited when Drew points out that Wadi has been flirting with him and blushes and smiles a lot around him. This has the side effect of making their interactions awkward, as Zak tries not to point out Wadi with Ulraj nearby, but she doesn't seem to mind the awkwardness. At the end of the episode, Wadi kisses Zak on the cheek and he watches her leave with a loving expression on his face.
Ulraj is Zak's best friend (after Fiskteron). Their initial meeting was only out of convenience, to help Ulraj regain his kingdom and Zak rescue his parents from Argost. During the process, they ended up getting along well. Most of Ulraj and Zak's dialogue consists of fighting each other, and sometimes they even fight to outdo each other. They appear to be evenly matched fighters. However, Ulraj offers Zak advice on his cryptid powers, giving him a deeper understanding of how to communicate with cryptids beyond simply trying to exert his will over theirs. Their friendship is based on mutual respect and, with it, a healthy and friendly rivalry. He doesn't seem to mind that Zak is Kur, although from a King's perspective, Ulraj might also find value in being on good terms with someone so powerful. However, as things stand, Ulraj's behavior towards Zak has not changed since the reveal. In Life in the Underground, Ulraj even tried to flirt with Wadi because he noticed Zak's interest in her and refused to lose to Zak on anything.
Even without its power, Zak remains a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, with or without the Claw, as he has defeated opponents with more combat experience than him, such as VV Argost, Doc Saturday, and Tsul 'Kalu. Ulraj also suggested in The Underworld Bride that his power is only effective if the cryptid Zak is trying to influence, at least partially, wants to do what Zak is trying to get him to do. He cannot completely take away free will from another creature. Zak is mixed race, his mother is of Caucasian descent and his father is African American.
