World

[ Reikai is a realm filled with humans and spirits alike. Technology is close to feudal Japan with no electricity or steam power. The main human settlement is a village called Irori, filled with traditional Japanese housing and Cherry Blossom trees. To the north of the village is a meadow that flows into a dense forest. To the south is a swamp filled with dangerous spirits. To the east and west of the village are unpassable mountains known as Rubi and Shino respectively. Each area of Reikai is home many spirits and are often seen roaming their respective areas ]

Spirits

[ Oni are violent marauder spirits that gain thrill in slaughter. Oni have taken up residence in the swampland + Jorogumo are devious creatures with the head and torso of a woman and the lower half of a spider. They often conceal their lower half in the swamp to trick travellers into getting closer before wrapping them in web + Tanuki are trickster spirits that reside in forests and take the form of red pandas, finding amusement in playing harmless pranks on humans + Kitsune are incredibly rare spirit that bless the pure of soul with abilities. Kitsune are almost never found, instead finding the worthy + Yokai are harmless spirits that can take various forms between animals, humans, and objects with disproportionate appendages. Yokai are often seen coexisting with people in Irori, feeling safe around them. ]

Background

[ Iao Kimura was 16 when she and her parents were attacked by a group of oni. Before the final blow could be delivered, a kitsune saved her from the oni and blessed her with power. However, her parents were slain. Over 40 years later, she is the protector of the realm of Reikai. She has trained with a blade for decades and become a master swordman, using her skills to make sure the people of Irori are never hurt again. One night, a strange eclipse engulfs the land of Reikai in golden light before returning to normal shortly after. The story starts on the following morning. ]
