SUMMARY

Téa Gardner, known as Anzu Mazaki (真崎杏子, Mazaki Anzu) in the original Japanese version, is a character from the manga and anime Yu-Gi-Oh!. She is a childhood friend of Yugi Muto, whom she always supports. Téa does not usually play Duel Monsters with Yugi and his friends, but early in the anime, she could beat Joey Wheeler in Duel, and was later shown to be more than competent against other Duelists. Téa is also very good at dancing and dreams of being a professional dancer in the future.

APPEARANCE

In the manga, Téa originally wore a conventional, short haircut. Her first color image appearing in chapter 1 of the first volume, featured dark brown hair and brown eyes. As Kazuki Takahashi continued to draw the manga, Téa's design gained more feminine features. His hairstyle became longer and less conventional. Color images from the third volume onwards depict hair as a lighter brown color. Sometimes their eyes are blue, although other times they are reddish brown. ETYMOLOGY

Her Japanese name, "Anzu," means "apricot" while her surname "Mazaki" means "Cape of Truth." Her English name, "Téa", is a shortened form of "Dorotéa" or "Teodóra", meaning "gift from god", while her surname "Gardner" could be a corruption of the word "guardian", reflecting her role as Yugi's "guardian" to a certain extent.

BIOGRAPHY

Téa's big dream is to become a dancer and have her own dance studio. In search of this dream is how she meets Yugi, upon being rescued by him.
