SUMMARY

Téa Gardner, known as Anzu Mazaki (真崎杏子, Mazaki Anzu) in the original Japanese version, is a character from the manga and anime Yu-Gi-Oh!. She is a childhood friend of Yugi Muto, whom she always supports. Téa does not usually play Duel Monsters with Yugi and his friends, but early in the anime, she could beat Joey Wheeler in Duel, and was later shown to be more than competent against other Duelists. Téa is also very good at dancing and dreams of being a professional dancer in the future.

APPEARANCE

In the manga, Téa originally wore a conventional, short haircut. Her first color image appearing in chapter 1 of the first volume, featured dark brown hair and brown eyes. As Kazuki Takahashi continued to draw the manga, Téa's design gained more feminine features. His hairstyle became longer and less conventional. Color images from the third volume onwards depict hair as a lighter brown color. Sometimes their eyes are blue, although other times they are reddish brown. Due to the final volume of the manga, her hair reaches her shoulders. Her school uniform consists of a pink jacket and a blue pleated skirt. In the first series of the anime, the hair and eyes are a reddish brown. Her normal school color differs from the team, her hair is orange and her tie and skirt are green. In the second series of the anime, she has dark brown hair and blue eyes. Her usual outfit from the second anime series consists of the school uniform colored in the same manner as in the original manga. From the second to the third season, Téa's clothing consists of a bright green, yellow polo sleeveless button-down shirt, blue and pink bracelets, short navy blue shorts with a blue belt, white thigh-high stockings, and blue platform shoes. .

PERSONALITY

At the beginning of the manga, Téa has an aggressive and imposing personality that even scared Joey and Tristan when they bullied Yugi. She is very kind at heart, has a strong will and always supports her friends. In Duel Monsters, she usually cheers up her friends and stands up for what she believes in and will do anything to help her friends. She is very loving and acts as the group's voice of reason. He is also shown to have a lot of affection for Yugi and the Pharaoh in this series (suggested during the final duel and during Waking the Dragons). She is also shown to become easily jealous, such as when Mai (initially), Rebecca, and Vivian flirt with Yugi, sometimes to the point where she explodes with rage. Despite their strong bonds of friendship, he is not above keeping others, mainly Joey and Tristan, in line when they get out of control or act crazy. She often says "I need more friends," but she loves them deeply.

ETYMOLOGY

Her Japanese name, "Anzu," means "apricot" while her surname "Mazaki" means "Cape of Truth." Her English name, "Téa", is a shortened form of "Dorotéa" or "Teodóra", meaning "gift from god", while her surname "Gardner" could be a corruption of the word "guardian", reflecting her role as Yugi's "guardian" to a certain extent.

BIOGRAPHY

Téa's big dream is to become a dancer and have her own dance studio. In search of this dream is how she meets Yugi, upon being rescued by him. She is an eternal friend of Yugi Muto, but Téa is a character that has not affected the series much since she almost never Duels, only against Mai Valentine in the Duelist Kingdom and in Noah Kaiba's world. She is always willing to help Yugi and his friends whenever they need it. She invented the friendship seal that always reminds Yugi that he has the unconditional support of his friends whenever they are far away. His favorite card is "Wizard of Faith" and his Deck of cards is made up of angel, fairy and goblin class monsters.

RELATIONSHIP WITH YUGI

Téa is Yugi's childhood friend. In the manga it is mentioned that they met in elementary school. She meets Yami Yugi because at work a man with a gun kept her hostage (in the second anime, a man meets her at a warehouse by blackmailing her into revealing her secret that she works as a minor and he begins to harass her. record with a video camera). Yami came out of the puzzle and saved her, but she couldn't see his face since he was blindfolded. However, she fell in love with him because of his manly voice without knowing that it was her friend's other self. After discovering that her lover is the spirit of Yugi's puzzle, Téa continues to love him. Throughout the series, mainly in the manga, it can be seen that she is in love with Yami but also shows some confusion for Yugi. In the manga and the first anime, Téa falls into a trap thinking that she will be able to see the pharaoh. In the anime, she thinks a lot about Yami but gets jealous every time she sees Yugi with another girl. The funny thing is that in the manga and anime, everyone except the pharaoh knows Téa's feelings: Mai tells her that she knows about her feelings (in the manga) and Rebecca asks her directly if she likes Yami (in the anime ). In an interview with Kazuki Takahashi in 2007 before the world tournament that year and published on the official websites of the American version of Shonen Jump and Konami, Téa would travel to America to study dance. Laughing, Takahashi commented that there was a possibility that she would marry Yugi if, upon returning, she felt the same way about him or "something more."

Deck

Téa uses a Deck full of Fairy monsters, but in the Virtual World arc, she plays a Deck of Spellcaster monsters. Like Mai Valentine, most of her monsters are women. She combines her Spell Cards with her monsters to increase their strength and uses Trap Cards such as "Waboku" and "Mirror Force" to protect her monsters from damage. She plays once in the manga and six times during the anime (four of which were off-screen).
