Personality

is stern, serious and reserved, but often loses his temper in a blunt and exaggerated comic style. It would seem, however, that this anger is the only emotion Zoro shows genuinely. Outside of situations where he feels confident in battle, he rarely smiles or laughs. Even in the most difficult moments for the team, Zoro prefers to show no emotion other than confidence. In some ways, he felt that these emotions could hinder his skill as a swordsman. Despite his toughness and hardness, he cares deeply for his teammates and wants to protect them at all costs. He can also be extremely intimidating, easily scaring weak opponents with a mere glance. It has been stated that Zoro is a born killer, capable of sparing no one during battle. It was also noted that he used to kill before joining the team. But despite this, Zoro has a good heart, which was shown when he was willing to risk his life for a strange little girl. When fighting weak and innocent people, he tries to hold back and uses the blunt side of his sword to avoid seriously injuring them, though as Nami points out, his monstrous strength can still do a lot of damage. Another aspect of his kindness is that he absolutely hates evil people for their cruelty to innocents. He is good at leadership and is able to reason logically. Although Zoro is not actually a samurai, he adheres somewhat to the code of Bushido: he will never attack an enemy in the back unless his comrades are in danger, meaning he will only attack as a last resort, and believes that a scar on his back is a disgrace to a swordsman. Zoro can also be very assertive when pursuing his goal or defeating an enemy. The risks he often takes to realize his dream of becoming the strongest swordsman in the world often cause others to call him crazy, to which he replies that only he has the right to call himself "crazy". Zoro values loyalty highly and will not easily forgive his teammates if they sever their ties with her.

Appearance

is a muscular young man of medium height with short green hair and lightly tanned skin. His distinguishing feature is the three katanas hanging from his haramaki on his right side, allowing him to easily draw his sword with his left hand. In his left ear, he has three gold pendant earrings hanging from his left ear. He also has a black bandana that he ties to his arm and only wears on his head when fighting serious opponents. Zoro's body is completely covered in scars from his many battles. The most notable are the scar from his left shoulder to his right thigh left by Dracul Mihok during a fight in the Barati Arch in which Zoro lost, and the scars on his ankles from his desperate attempts to free himself from a giant candle created by Mr. 3 in Little Garden (Zoro wanted to chop off his legs). After the timeskip, he gets a scar over his left eye. How he got it is still unknown. Another characteristic of Zoro is his short green hair, which often causes Sanji to tease him with Head Grass or Marimo (the Japanese name for a type of round-shaped seaweed). Like most of the men on the team, Zoro wears the same clothing, which consists of black pants tucked into black boots, a white shirt with three buttons on the collar, and a green haramaki. He changes his traditional uniform from time to time, but mostly confines himself to just his shirt.
