The action takes place at the dawn of the 18th century, in the southwestern part of America, once controlled by the Spaniards. The main character, named Don Diego de la Vega, the eighteen-year-old son of a local landowner, arrives after studying from Spain and discovers that his homeland has fallen under the dictatorship of Commander Raymond and Lieutenant Gabriel. Offended by oppression, Diego decides to fight the tyrants. He puts on a mask and, under the new name Zorro, riding on his faithful steed Viento, begins to help the weak and oppressed. At the same time, the main character has a lover of blue blood - Lolita. As the plot develops, Zorro becomes more and more popular among the people and wins the title of folk hero. Don Diego de la Vega (Zorro) is the main character of the story. The son of a wealthy plantation owner from Southern California. His mother died long ago. After several years of traveling around Spain, Diego receives a letter from his father and decides to return to his homeland and discovers that the country has plunged into the abyss of chaos: Spanish troops stopped following the law and began to terrorize the local population (as Diego's father indicated in the letter). The standard of living of ordinary people began to deteriorate. Being one of the best swordsmen, Diego, not coming to terms with this, puts on a suit and mask and, hiding his identity under the new name of Zorro, begins to fight against injustice, protecting unfortunate citizens. Like his father, Diego is calm and reasonable, unlike his stubborn and hot-tempered friends. It should be noted that, being an aristocrat, Diego is not only wealthy, but also well educated. Hides the best qualities in himself in order to keep his secret: mostly acts stupid and awkward, pretending to be a lazy coward. He is helped in the fight by a boy named Bernard, who wears the same costume as Zorro. Diego himself is in love with his childhood friend Lolita. Zorro's favorite weapon is the rapier. Also uses a whip.
